Well there is a question looming among sports card enthusiasts, are base rookie cards going to hold long-term value?
In this video, I share some insights and share some investment advice that I haven't heard anywhere else.
I've always had a strong conviction that says, the rookie card is sacred and it should be respected and protected by us the hobby.

As investors, you would think they would understand the diversity in portfolio and that gold, diamonds and rare jewels aren’t the only thing worth hoarding. I would imagine base being more akin to silver. Never demanding a premium, but always valued and needed.

I just found your channel so I’m going through all your videos. You’re one of the few KZbinrs that I can relate to as a collector. I’m a base collector and I also don’t like this narrative being pushed on KZbin. I honestly think the people crapping on base cards are doing it because they just want to profit short-term off of the parallels they own. These people will be gone from the hobby once they can’t make $$$ and that’s why they are saying base cards are dead. Really looking forward to all your videos as I’m a pure collector and will never sell my cards.

All of the sets i've been working with lately from the 90s the base is more sought after than the parallels of RC HOFers. Price or scarcity does not seem to be a factor.

Totally agree…that ‘hate for base” started to buzz when Sports Card Investor put out his video “Is base dead”….with that being said, along with the base I like to pick up the gold serial numbered

Victor, I agree with you whole heartily. I am so sick of all the content being put on out there, especially on KZbin, from the investor/flippers, preaching about buying the parallels etc. and devaluing the base card whether it is Graded or not. Of course they have only one thing on their mind, and it's not Collecting ! It's a pleasure to listen to your thoughts on it. Thank you.

Just came across this channel and I agree, base rookie cards are a good entry point to grow your collection, it has been getting a lot of hate lately but eventually it will go back to the “collecting” standpoint now that everything else that’s tanking. Collecting will always be important before investing cause without it there would be no hobby at all.

Great video and thank you. This touches on a theory I have, however I won't discuss that publicly, trying to keep things cost effective for myself. But in a nutshell here's my issue with base rookies, what's the print run size, nobody but Topps knows that answer, and once again we find ourselves in an era of over production.

Great video Already subbed! I believe base rookies (true rookies) will hold better long term value than rookie year inserts. But do you think the long term value of first year inserts are worth the chase and holding them? Or should I focus on spreading my hobby dollars on true rookies only? I collect because I love the hobby but also want to make wise financial investments in the right cards

Many inserts are over cooked because it's the same themes year after year. But not all. You really have to do your homework with the checklist. I don't give investment advice but so long as you like it you can't go wrong. The financial end of it comes with player performance, championships, etc

@@johnrodriguez6480 I'm a fan of the rookie player set registries inside the PSA app. Therefore, I prefer PSA graded RCs. It's also the way to go when considering long term value, PSA just rules the secondary market and will continue to do so IMO. Hope this helps!

Base rookies are still my favorite, the cards with more scarcity are cool but chasing them is expensive and kind of annoying. Granted I don't pick up a ton of ultra modern and virtually no football and basketball ultra modern because they are just too volatile.

Let me ask you, Do you think Panini Chronicles Base card are rookies as well? I'm not so sure because this is a weird product with a ton of different sets within a set. I'd love your thoughts.

Hi Buttons! Thanks for tuning in. Great question. I consider any Panini baseball product as “rookie year” cards and here’s why. In 2005 the Players Association, who is the legal authority, declared that rookie cards must be licensed by both the League and the PA. Looking at licensing on the back of any Panini baseball product you’ll notice only one license. I’ve heard that changed in 2012 but nobody can surface any evidence of this anywhere. Still great cards to own but a “true RC” it is not.
