Set Registry Q&A with PSA

So glad you asked about these specific questions. I’m fairly new to the registry (2021), but I’ve held off buying the SP cards of Ichiro and Pujols bc those aren’t the iconic RCs of those players. Base topps or topps chrome take the cake IMO and would be more accessible. I also wanted to know as well about how additions are made to the Futures set. Was told users get to vote (but we get no emails about that) and since I reached last year the Topps Update Bryce Harper “RC” was added and we have no idea how that takes place! I even went to trouble and request Acuna Bat down SP RC be added and it was denied. I really hope some clarity comes soon to this process bc it really is a lot of fun and enhances the collecting experience. Keep us posted!

Victor, can you talk about the current price of submissions for PSA and how that is going to affect the set registry? For example the 1991 upper deck basketball complete set. It's not the most popular thing but I feel like the new prices will pretty much make that particular set unrealistic and not be targeted by collectors. I wish they'd create a lower service at $12 for items with a suggested value that is under $50.

Yeah, these are great points. I know PSA sent an email out a few weeks ago. $150 dollars off for set registry members. However, 20 cards or more. So I believe they are starting to offer cheaper rates. I just don't see subs going lower than $14.99 IMO

I have been in the hobby only a couple of years. Starting exploring the set registry. I’m definitely intrigued. Even did a quick MJ set. You mentioned a community on KZbin. I’ve actually searched for it before and didn’t come up with anything. Is there a particular channel or pod you would recommend for Set Registry content? Thanks.

I did not like the response from PSA. The same situation I have with the Troy Polamalu RC. At least this card is out of 2500. I have several card requested to be included in different sets since January. Also, they have years (I belived) that they are not accepting new sets. =(

I wish I could ask him a question. There are so many complex sets like the HOF rookie set you are talking about. I submitted a 48 card 1952 Japanese baseball set that is in the guide and their pop report. When I got the set back from PSA I wanted to submit it to the registry only to find out it's not there and they are not taking new submissions for the registry. This seems like an easy add yet I can't get this set in the registry. Very disappointed.

If affordability is the issue why include the 1952 bowman mantle, 1949 bowman Jackie, or 1951 bowman mays? They are all more expensive than the sp ichiro or pujols! A lot of us saw this coming a few years ago and bought the sp pujols and ichiro. So because a bunch of collectors had the foresight to buy them when they knew they were going to go up, they should be punished because others are angry at the price?

You make a good point but its not so much price. I probably misspoke there, its more about availability. The number of members in that specific registry plus the total pop counts. These two players have over 50 RCs should be something more tangible for all IMO. Thanks for tuning in Robert and sharing your thoughts. 👍🏼

Thanks Victor for the great video as always. I see the point on availability and more importantly the topps version being the one most people think when you say pujols or ichiro rookie. I can see them treating it like the bonds rookie where they accept 2 different cards
