It’ll happen eventually, but I think it’s still about ten or 12 years out. When you go to a race, you expect to hear motors, and smell race gas. It’s gonna be a while before people are willing to give that up. Cars will go electric, or at least hybrid in a few years to save on gas money, but I think stuff like NASCAR, and monster trucks and dirt bikes will still be combustion engine for a while.

I have ridden both and remember, two strokes were pretty damn attention demanding. Trying to navigate a track while being in the right gear, at the right RPM on the power, shifting constantly, potentially missing a shift or bogging the engine all made it a challenge and kind of tiring. You can ride so much lazier now, in the low RPM so I guess the extra power is there if you need it or not. The new four strokes are more tune-able with more options The only thing I miss about the two stokes were they were a little more lite and flick-able.

There are a ton of things I could chime in on regarding the "issues" of today's supercross, but I wanted to add in something about the bikes. I think equally as important as the power (both the amount, and how controllable), is the suspension and frame geometry. I grew up and learned to build bikes (suspension included) during the time when Open cartridge forks were beginning to phase out, Twin chambers were brought in, followed by SFF and air suspension. 10-12 years ago, achieving the same dampening quality as a modern day stock bike would cost you several thousand dollars.. and these new "A kits" are allowing riders to make mistakes that riders couldn't do back in the day. The end result is that we're seeing the equipment do more of the work than what we're used to seeing, and thats making the racing less appealing (amongst other things, like riders all sharing very, very similar styles).
@Matthiaz131
@Matthiaz131 3 жыл бұрын
You can take a lot of power away from the bikes by a rule that reduces sound. Bring that sound back to 85-90DB, it would put the manufacturers for a new challenge and the bikes would become totally different to ride. Besides that would it be beneficial for the sport in general because sound complaints would be a little ludicrous. Off course it would take something away from our sport, but then again this "jumping everything in first gear" does that too. Maybe this is something to talk about next time?

Although I get why they do the premiere 450 class last for each race you could make an argument that one of the perks of reaching the premiere class is you get to race first on the track when conditions are better then have the 250's race after the 450 main event. Nah it’d slow the bikes down. Ken Roczen’s arm injury would never have happened on a two stroke. Might still have had the crash, and maybe broke the arm, but would never have been as bad as it was when he was launched 40-50 feet through the air off of a rhythm section jump. It wasn’t even a Supercross triple. It was just a normal rhythm section. Only problem with 125s, idk abou 250 two strokes, but a lot of brands don’t even make a 125 anymore. I think Yamaha is the only one. But the injuries have gotten more serious because of 450 four strokes. I’m not even anti four stroke either, I think 2 and 4 stroke both have their place, but you take away 450s, at least in sx, and watch how quickly guys stop getting these injuries that derail their careers for 2-3 years.

It would make it much more affordable for your average joe like me ;)
@Supercoxracing
@Supercoxracing 3 жыл бұрын
@@racingfuel28 I agree completely, but that is not exactly what I meant. Think about how much harder it is to ride a 125 two stroke fast than it is a 250f? Not only because a 125 doesn't produce as much power, but it's a lot harder to make a 125 go fast. You don't have to be as precise on a 250f or 450f, so on two strokes I think there would be more injuries because of how much riders rely on the ease of a four stroke. They are two different riding styles anyway. There is a reason that all the guys that grew up riding two strokes are ripping 450's in the vet class haha.

first change to sx should be get rid of most of the bowl turns. Back in the old days riders had to learn how to corner. the bowl turns just add to the excessive speed. Second 250 class should be able to run two or four stroke. 250 class should run full series. Third have a 125cc class that is regional with a 2 year limit for younger, smaller kids that aren't ready or comfortable with a 250f. With three classes go to 20 15 and 10 laps.

The bikes as is, are here to stay. In SX, the issue is track layout and design. The layouts are simplistic and very much the same week to week. They could easily design tracks with a slower pace that are more technical. Slower speeds, less injuries. Im sure the TV people would not go for that, so we are stuck there as well. Not only is the KTM faster on the track & trails the top speed on this bike is over 120mph STOCK ! Without being geared a 500 tops out around 90mph. I'm into freeriding , hitting ramps , riding tracks & trails/dunes & the best all around bike for me , IMO , is a 450. One thing we can both agree on is that 500's aren't made for hitting FMX ramps. Unless it's for distance that is......

@@pauldayton5285 no I’m talking a modern frame and suspension kx or Cr 500Af. Plenty of drag race vids between 450’s and 500AF builds. Hint hint the 500 usually wins if there is traction. So the modern 450s are geared higher in the tranny, you can still change the sprocket on a kx500 and get 120mph. It ain’t hard. Dirt bikes are about acceleration not top speed. You are comparing old tech that had an extremely explosive powerband to a thumper that has smooth NO hit power and modern suspension. The thumper is easier to ride fast by far. I’m just saying that if R&D went into 500 2 strokes like it has into making 4 stroke bikes from girly trail bikes into racers, It’d be a fun fast and more than a match for any 450. But it would most definitely be harder to ride !! Yeah 500s for fmx is not going to happen lol. They are Robbie Kinevel type bikes.

Great show, Would someone in the know plz explain to me why the Jap manufacturers are so dead set on not having a 350? RV didn't go into detail would someone plz explain what he was alluding too? Lastly would someone explain why the Honda-Yamaha are considered in stock trim such better bikes than the Kawi? I have valved forks, pro circuit rear spring, x trig clamps on my 20 Kawi 450 it handles so much better even when it was bone stock than those bikes in stock form. the 24 Kawi looks to finally be the bike we've all asked for with the better brakes and ability to tune without having the handheld not to mention the fact theyve went to the better down draft intake and center exhaust. I've ridden the 21+ Honda and 22-23 YZ 450's the YZ and Honda seem much less stable and very twitchy especially the newer YZ and honda. The Kawi and Suzuki both imo handle much better in factory form and with the mods I've listed having on my 20 Kawi its a solid platform minus the ridiculous amount of jumpiness in the first 10-20% of throttle on my bike even with the green plug, I hear if I buy that tuning tool I can get a smoother tune. Back to the YZ I've seen the KTM 350 Dyno more than the YZ but that engine is the best of all the 450's because it's useable with great over rev... Obviously if the 22+ KTM 350 (great bike odd feel to me) does not feel stronger than my KX 450 off the bottom to mid but I love the power up top. I would love it if the Jap companies would build a 50-55hp 350.

450s will always be a lot of power for a sx track because the tracks are built to accommodate 250s It’s up to the professional riders to control that 450 power on a sx track. I’m a c grade weekend rider and never once felt like my 450 was too powerful for me so I can’t see how they can be too powerful for professional riders that ride them every day for an income.

All engines have power curves but only two strokes have a distinct "powerband". Four strokes have a very linear power curve making power over a broad rpm range with a very flat torque curve. Two strokes have a distinct power and torque "peak" a characteristic that has to do with their design. They make the same power over half the the rpm range called the "powerband". Its a small rpm band that you have to keep the engine within or it falls on its face. You can't lug it or rev it past this point like a four stroke can. Take the 21' KX250 from the time it makes 10 hp until it makes peak hp it covers approx 10k rpm. A YZ250 two stroke covers the same 10hp to peak hp in 4k to 5K rpm depending on the pipe. Here are two dyno runs (on the same dyno) of a beta 250 2t vs a kx250 4t fast forward to the last pulls to see the charts kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4CppqWOgdZnntE kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2arfpynp7eCnas

Are modern bikes today too fast? Erm... no. They're slower, heavier, more expensive and more unreliable than 90's bikes, even some 80's bikes. How come a 20+ year old 2 stroke can still hang with the best of em today even on an out dated chassis with rubbish suspension and brakes.. bet half the lads these days wouldn't dare pin an old 500. 2 strokes were raw, and they took raw talent to get the most out of them.

450’s are too much for indoors. Supercross should be a stock 250f East/West class and a 250f modified class instead of a 450 class. The 450’s should be for mx only. The fastest lap times of the 450’s are only a second or 2 faster than the 250’s, proving that all of that extra power isn’t translating into better racing.
