I bought the $40 Wen planer based off of your review and I’m LOVING it. I work with a lot of reclaimed lumber and it helps a ton in the “clean-up” phase of using reclaimed lumber

I really like your straightforward tool review approach! I especially appreciate the "apples to apples" comparisons (SKIL vs WEN), as well as the "apples to oranges" comparison of the more affordable tools vs higher priced tools. It truly helps me decide how and where I want to spend the money I've squirreled away the past few years in my piggy bank, specifically for new tool purchases! Thank you! ~~Christy~~

I bought one of these based in part on your review and it works great. I don't know how long it will last, but I am able to quickly straighten the warped studs in my house during my remodel. Pretty much every tingle stud in my house is crooked, so it's going to get a lot of work. The best part about it is if I hit a nail with it or destroy it somehow, it's cheap enough to replace. The dust collection works pretty well with my shop vac and it can be adjusted to exhaust either left or rights.

Thanks! I just bought this Planer and I'm very happy with it! I definitely do tend to trust the Skil name over alot of the others, I guess it's because I remember my Grandpa having a Skil circular saw!👍❤

Not a single person can convince me that this isn't made in the same factory as my Ryobi one. Literally identical plastic molding minus color, the absolute exact same features, same size and everything. It even has the same accessories. This was way weird to see lol.

You might be right. They’re not identical but the bevel cut in the plastic in front matches for sure. There’s a used Ryobi on market place by my house and you’ve peaked my curiosity!

@@ProjectsForAllReviews I would totally watch that video. Use mine all the time and it's an absolute workhorse. My dads is like 4 or 5 years old and is a tinybit different than my year old one but both have definitely stood the test of time. And would be interesting to see how they compare to the skil especially since my newer one is practically identical to the skil.

It's very common for a chinese company to market the same thing to multiple companies and just change the logo and color of ti. Shopfox, Grizley and several other companies sell these products. I have looked at several products from these companies and much of what they sell are exactly the same except for color and logo.

Another good review. I'm not in the market for a hand planer as I have an old blue Ryobi that works fine for the rare occasion I need one. That said, I gotta watch anyway, because your video quality and presentation remain excellent as always. It's nice to see that subscriber count continuing to go up.

I chuckle ever time someone mentions blue Ryobi on this channel. I started with the 18v blue combo in the giant blow molded clamshell case! Been hunting for that same set on marketplace for a month. Sad I have to type in the word “vintage” 😆 Subscribers jumped about 25% last month and I couldn’t be happier! Thank you for the support!

Hey man love your channel found it a few weeks ago. I wish I would've thought to tell you after your DeWalt table saw video, but after this Skil video it hit me... If you want to show people the best budget table saw, the Skil 10 inch is absolutely it. Is it DeWalt territory? Of course not. It was my first saw, 24 inch rip capacity, built in stand (decent, sturdy) rack and pinion fence (solid),etc etc for $350 sometimes less on sale. I think 731 woodworks did a video on it as well. And while I'm at it lol, I also had their 10 inch dual bevel sliding miter, best in it's class IMHO. I challenge, repeat I CHALLENGE you to find a better 10 inch table saw with all the bells and whistles at $350 or under, or even $400. The 10 inch miter is awesome as well, I mean for $250 comeon. But yeah, check them out I'm sure some viewers would love to see them

Thanks Adam! I’ve been eyeballing that $350 Skil since day one! It’s in the queue and at the top of the line. I have the Evolution table saw in the shop now and we’ll start with that next week! I’m pretty excited for this one. 1/4 steel plate, pcv, aluminum and wood all with one blade! Should be a cool review. I paid $350 so let me know if you think it’s a contender! Challenge accepted!

@billymurphy3

I can tell you where the flappy bit is a problem. 04:30 It makes it difficult to start a pass anywhere along the board. Say, I wanna start in the middle of a board and head out towards a twisted corner. The way the flap is designed you can’t easily drop into a cut/pass anywhere. Then you pick up a Bosch and the way theirs is designed the flap easily folds into the base when you set it down without having to use some odd pressure to get it to flip up. My Kobalt looks the same. It’s honestly one of the most annoying parts about it.
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
You bring up a good point I didn’t think about. That kick stand definitely would prevent a mid board start and not super safe try and hold it flat to set it down. Thanks for watching?

@@ProjectsForAllReviews yeah, I had to tape mine down for some stuff. I’m not a puts his hands near a spinning blade kinda guy. It’s great to have cordless but I regret getting my Kobalt though. I don’t wanna even pull it out because I know I’m gonna have to re-tape it next time haha

I was recently flipping through a catalog from Lee Valley (some junk mail they sent) and on page 2 they had these Veritas Miniature Tools for dirt cheap. The catch is they’re 1:3 scale. Would it make for good content to review them as though they were meant to be actual sized tools? I don’t even know if they’d be usable. It’s like jack planes and block planes and chisels and stuff, but 1/4th the price if the full sized ones

I checked them out Jeffrey and they appear to be real just miniature. Pretty cool. Looks like they can be used same as the full size. Maybe a future vid. Thanks for the tip!

Nice review! Looks like I may be getting the Skil. The dust bag appears to be practically useless, as are most dust bags. That's minor when compared to the apparent high grade of functionality. Update: I did buy this planer based on your review. So far, I'm really happy with it. I haven't yet tried everything you've done with it, but I will. And yes, these things throw out a ton of sawdust. To be fair, the dust bag does collect a lot. But it expels a lot more than the bag collects. Also, I bought this planer from Amazon for $63. Today (3/28/23), it lists for $83.

I’m glad I found this video. I have a Skil table saw that I inherited that’s over 20 yrs. old, works like a champ. My collection includes a small hand sander, and a circular saw. Don’t get me wrong I have Dewalt, Bosch, Matalbo & other brands of tools. I have small hands, it’s a safety issue when I choose a more expensive tool. I just really was looking for a planer to do basic cleanup. My biggest complaint is the black dials with no real visible markings. I’ve had my eye on the Bosch, it is a price & use issue. You did a really good video. I’m liking & subscribing. Keep up the good work. Look forward to your next one.😊

I always get the narrower but it really depends what you plan to use it for. Typically uses for me would be board edges and doors so 3-1/4 is perfect. Thanks for watching Dinakar!

It would be interesting to see how the 20V brushless Skil planer compares. I'm mostly a DeWalt guy but am now dabbling in Skil for lower cost complimentary or gap filling tools. As a left handed person, the dual dust extraction chute option is an immediate positive over the DeWalt equivalent. Great job, btw!

Hi, thanks for the review. I watched your vid on the Wen just before this as I'm considering getting a planer. From watching these two videos I have chosen to subscribe because you seem fair, honest, experienced and likely a good resource for improving my own skills. Thank you. A couple of thoughts on this vid though. The Skil is twice as expensive as your Wen, is it twice as good? Do you still use your Wen or have you replaced it with the Skil? I don't think assuming & suggesting that a tool is of higher quality on the inside because it has a couple of newer features on the outside and is twice as expensive is good. Brand names don't carry weight like they used to, think Craftsman. The Skils, Milwaukie's, DeWalts, Chicago Electrics, Ali Express specials, et al are almost certainly coming out of the same factories and many only have color-changed exteriors and different stickers. Just saying. Thanks again!

Harbor Freight offers a $40 Bauer 20V cordless version of this, which spot to spot looks exactly the same. However, you do make a good point about the internal engineering that might separate functionality and performance. Visually it doesn't make sense, but anything like how the internals works, to the "catch" of the gearing mechanism that holds the planing blade all impacts performance. I personally think I'll just get the $40 Bauer (my projects are NOT that important. It just needs a simple smooth planed edge), but if that causes too many issues, or if I feel like I need something more, I'll give this one a try. Thank you!

Ok. The more I see these tools the more I think that there is only 2 or 3 companies actually designing and manufacturing them. That Skil looks exactly like my cordless Bauer which the Bauer looks exactly like the Ryobi cordless. What gives it away that TTI (the maker of Ryobi and owner of Milwaukee) is building these under contract? That swing dust exhaust port, the tool stowed on body, the sole plate. The tool market has turned into Gm of the 60s IMHO. Good planer at great value. So can Hobo Freight be with a coupon. Great vids!

Kupiłem i nie polecam. Nie zbiera wszystkich wiórów do worka. Nawet wolniejszy posuw nie pomaga. Wióry lecą spod ostrza. Jak ktoś szlifuje w garażu to się nie nadaje. Miałem tańszy model niteotools i tutaj zbierało wszystkie wióry do worka. Minusem niteotools była krzywa stopa i różnica tolerancji płaszyczny 1mm. Plusem skilla jest 0.2mm rożnicy na płaszczyżnie.

I had just watched the WEN review the other day. Now I watched this one. Skil is making good stuff. I just bought a jig saw from them and it is fantastic. Ive also read great reviews on their shop sized table saw. SKIL has it together. Thanks for the review. Im going to pay a few bucks more and get the SKIL. QUESTION can you use this planer ON THE BOTTOM of the door ? I understand about the grain and everything - your take ?
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
I have review vids on the Skil jigsaw and table saw on here and they are both excellent! As far as the door goes is it solid wood? If it is be careful to not do the end grain. If it splinters bad you could get hurt or just mess up the door bad. I hate to reference one of my early bad vids but if you go way back I have one planing modern cheap doors. They are at best mdf but look like pressed cardboard you could probably do the ends of those but I’ve never tried. I have to cut 8 doors next weekend to help a neighbor and I’m planing to use a track saw with a 60 tooth blade and using painters tape to help prevent tear out. Good luck and thanks for watching!
