I own the Radical 2x12 and yes, everything he says is true. The sound IS much louder, as sound come out of the back of the cab, but there isn't any phase cancellation. As a result, you can get the airiness and volume of an open cab with the bass response of a closed backed cab. If you need something negative to say about the Barefaced cab, try carrying it awhile using the handle. It's a totally normal amp handle and that's the problem. It's a light cab, about 34lbs but the handle hurts after a bit. That's the only negative thing I've found, besides the expense. They ain't cheap, but this is absolutely the case of you get what you pay for.

I have a Reformer 1x12", Celestion Cream alnico 90 watts, used with a heavy 50 watt valve amp, now switching to a VictoryV4 amp, ultra light rig for gigging. This little speaker set up is better than my old 2x12" and much lighter. The sound you hear near the cab is the sound you have deep in the room, no more off axis sound issues.

Really digging your riffs lately! I've watched enough Johan Segeborn to really agree in the influence the cab/speakers have on the tone. That Friedman sounds awesome with that cab

Deeper and longer I play guitar, the more I realize how important speaker choice is. I have had a few small amps with a single 10” speaker...through trial and error, I have discovered that I do not dig 10” speakers (at least single 10”). There’s a lot to dig into. Closed back vs. open back, the cabinet material and the actual speaker. Alnico Blue’s are awesome. Celestion’s in general. Couldn’t agree more...an awesome amp can’t sound great without a great cabinet/speaker. Great speaker/cabinet will improve almost every amp.

Nice to hear somebody talk about this! It’s common knowledge when talking about pedals- that the farther down the signal chain, the more influence a pedal has on the tone. It makes perfect sense that would continue to apply beyond the pedalboard 👍

Thank you so much for your video that was great. I have to agree with your take on this, that speakers make a HUGE difference in your overall tone. I have a 1-10 and 1-12 Barefaced cab and I just got a Revv D20 and can't wait to get them onstage if we ever get a chance to gig again soon. Barefaced cabs has a different take on speaker cabs but it is really an idea that is long overdue. Thanks again for your work on this.

Think about it: The speaker and cab perform for an electric guitar the same function as the top and body with sound-hole does for an acoustic. They are the moving surface that shifts large amounts of air to your ear as dictated by the vibrating string (or pickup)
@CraigFlowersMusic2 ай бұрын
There is the complaint that they are all too narrow, they don't do custom tolex or grills or dimensions either so I can't get one to match my Maz18. And they patented a 45 degree baffle . . . so I can't just ask zilla or mojotone to make it for me so I can customize it to match my amp. So even though the maz is really narrow at just 19.25", the only option wide enough for this small head is a 2x12 but on its side so that one of the wave guides is pointing directly into the carpet. That, or do the doofiest look ever and have a head that's wider than its mismatched cab, and I just can't bring myself to do that. Just, if anyone was looking for a complaint.

Thank you for bringing this up. Way too little emphasis on this part. Any rig is ultimately limited or unleashed by the speaker and cab. The pickups are the transducer on the other end of the chain. So if you get those two right, everything else kinda falls into place.

Surround sound cabs are good for any size venue but the "poor man's" version for smaller venues is quite simple actually. This set up is essentially using the stage and the room as one giant speaker cabinet. It takes some tweaking when you set up for a show BUT IT WORKS. For smaller venues, you take a standard combo amp, set it down on the stage - don't tilt it back and don't use an amp stand etc. Instead of facing the amp straight forward, angle it so that the amp is facing towards the center of the audience. Then put a plexiglass shield in front of the amp. The sound waves coming out of the back of the cabinet will bounce off the wall at the back of the stage while the shield in front of the amp will neutralize the beaming effect that only hits one section of the audience. Facing the amp towards center stage instead of straightforward moves all of the sound towards the center of the room instead of just to one side. The shield in front of the combo also allows you to turn up much louder where you're now up into the power section of the amp where those beautiful magical tones thrive. I've had fellow musicians at our shows who marvel at how the sound coming from a small 1x12 fills the entire room so well. It will actually work the same for a closed back cabinet as well but you have to move it a bit closer to the back wall; i.e. the sound waves bounce off of the shield in front, hit the back wall and project forward. It's slightly different - more focused and a bit punchier and little less surround sound but those differences are only slight. This will work just as well for a slightly larger venue with a 2X12 open back. Large venues with deep stages where the distance to the back wall of the stage is very long are a completely different story. Most of the sound coming out of the back of a combo is completely lost. Larger closed back cabs are better here because the distance to the audience is much greater so you get better sound dispersal but there is still a bit of a beaming effect. This is where surround sound cabs really shine because the cabinet disperses the sound evenly without any help from a back wall.

Warning stay away from Barefaced audio they are a rip off company , the prices they advertise on their web site are not the prices you will end up paying eg they will advertise 750 for a 2x12 bass cab but the real price will be more like 900 pounds , the person I spoke to about the hinden charges had attitude was arrogant a rude , not only that it will take them three months to build it for you.

@patbassman82514 жыл бұрын
@@bobbytwoshoe8851 As you can see by my previous comments it was about your hidden charges at the time , when I inquired about having a 2x12 cab built the price on your website was around 700 - 750 I don't remember exactly , I remember being told id have to make an advanced payment and then pay the remainder of the 930 when the cabinet was completed , I objected to the extra 130 pounds on the advertised price and the speaker was never built . Its seems many people are happy with your cabs good for you , unfortunately my experience with your company was bad I would put this to bed if you admit that the way you advertised your products at the time was wrong, many musicians don't have an extra 250 pounds to add on to an advertised price . By the way my TC electronic 2x12 with the 450 head sounds amazing and well worth half the price of your cab shame because I was keen to try yours out , Im thinking of adding a compact 2x10 .
@ticeman695 жыл бұрын
Are Cabs more important for tone than Guitars and Amps? Yes, of course, because in the end it's where the signal becomes sound. Before the Cab it's just electricity in a wire.
