These videos still have great value. Imagine if all the pc gaming channels all did the same thing constantly. Like Linus, gamer meld, gamers nexus and jays2ç. The gaming industry has a very robust and important retro gaming market and to criticize a channel for doing this is absolutely ridiculous.

here i got in 2019 also ;) , t7500 with x5680, 12 gig ram 240gb ssd , rx 570 8gb ( old mining card, tested), could put another processor if needed but i like the 1 cpu config for the thermals. yes it is huge and fans are not the most silent but for 400$ cad , it is a stealer. and the 1100 power supply has 2 connectors for graphic cards! Did you use the U402f for the cpu? i tie wrapped a fan to it and it does wonders. never go over 60 celcius in games. cheers!

These old Dell Precision workstations are awesome. I have two of them in my household, a T3500 and a T5500. the T3500 is great, and I have it outfitted with an X5667 Xeon and a GTX 780 ti. Had to modify power connectors to make it work but the OEM PSU is 525w so its up to the task. The Precision T5500 is where it gets interesting though. Mine came with the X5650 6 core Xeon, and I added a GTX 1080 before this gpu craze. This machine is a little beast and I would highly recommend over the T3500 because it has two six pin connectors for the GPU. BOTH of these systems came in around the same price as a brand new off the shelf graphics card these days, so I see that as a win. Keep up the great content!

I just did pretty much this exact upgrade path on a T3500 I bought last year for a ghetto gaming machine in lockdown! A few things I've discovered: - The PSU can be swapped out, but you'll need to find one with an 8 pin 12V EPS connector for the motherboard. - If you do upgrade the PSU and plan on using a GPU needing a lot more than 150W (the stock slot + 6pin) cooling will likely become the limiting factor. Mine was able to keep cool enough with an R7-260X (115W) with the case closed. With an R9 290X (290W, an extreme example!), even with the stock 2X120mm case fans on full and 2 additional 80mm fans fitted to the rear it would throttle in no time unless the case side was left off. - The biggest limiting factor for upgrades I found was the 3gbps SATA. The only options I found were either a proper workstation HBA card (expensive) , or a PCIe NVME drive and PCIe adaptor (expensive, cannot boot from NVME drives with a BIOS from this era unfortunately) Prices in Australian Dollarydoos so roughly halve these for £. Workstation: $250AU X5690 6 core 3.46GHz: $25AU 12GB ECC DDR3: $40AU Dusty second hand R9 290X: $50AU Junk box old SSD and second power supply (wired up just to power the GPU) Case side has to be left open. I haven't tried it on too many new titles, but it seems to have no trouble maintaining 60FPS in Fallout 4 and Doom Eternal at 1080p with Med-High settings, so I'm happy, considering what most hardware costs over here!

Not just in CP2077, but any other game, also if you would get a better gpu just turn everything to max settings. Ofc there's always some settings that hit the cpu really hard, but most of the time they do nothing to gpu performance.

Interesting video! I always look forward to see a video from you pop up in my sub box :) I feel that quad cores are not really the way to go anymore in 2021. Many games now will max out a quad core CPU (as seen in the benchmarks). The framerate is very inconsistent and the 1% and 0.1% lows are not looking to pretty. Therefore I think that this solution is that good of a value anymore. I am running a Xeon 2650 V2 in my main rig at the moment(with a GTX 1070Ti). It has no trouble running all of the newest titles. It even would benefit from a more powerful GPU. A 2650 V2 can be had for under £50. The motherboard can be had for about the same price as the CPU, and the memory aswell. With those parts you'll have a much better gaming experience, along with productivity performance that will give even new hardware a run for their money. Also, the Xeon E5 V3 line is more and more becoming quite a compelling option.

I LOVE my T3500! I’ve had mine for over five+ years now. I purchased it on eBay for about $150 USD and upgraded my GPU to MSI Gaming 960 4GB later on. It’s a powerhouse of a machine and highly easy to upgrade. HDDs just pop in and out without having to fumble with tiny screws. I was so impressed with my old Dell that in September 2020 I also bought a Dell T7500 and added a 1660 ti GPU (b/c it was the only graphics card available at the time). Then I networked both machines together for a mini 3D render farm. I’m a 3D animator and comic book artist, not a gamer so much (save for Sims 4 on a casual level) - so, I suppose I utilize my Dell Workstations with more designer type applications like Photoshop, Blender, Daz3D Studio, Clip Studio 5 EX, and some video editing software from Corel. These Dells are powerhouses for their old age. I will never trade my T3500, which made me love workstations over any newer PCs.

I've waited a long time for such an episode on this channel. Two years ago, when I sold my old laptop, I bought a Dell Precision T3500 because I needed a cheap computer for work and entertainment. For about 180 euro I got this dell, but with a 6-core Xeon w3690, 12 GB RAM and some weak quadro graphics card. I bought a ssd and a used gtx 1060. It turned out that it was great in games, but I wanted to see where this platform has the limit. Half a year ago I made an improvement by increasing the RAM memory to 24 GB and replacing the gpu with the gtx 1660 super. Almost all games give me well over 60fps and I can't see bottleneck (the exception is AC: Origins / Odyssey where I have fps drops even to 30). I am very pleased with the purchase of this dell because I have a really great machine for work and games on a low budget.

The main games I played/recorded was Fallout 4, Subnautica, Minecraft, FO76 and a few others. All saw around 50-60fps, although 76 and Subnautica often saw drops to around 40fps and even 30fps. BTW you have the better of the two stock CPU coolers, the more common version is just a block of aluminum with some slots cut into it.

One thing I want to mention though, since I don't think you mentioned it in the video, the Xeons from this era (the first gen Core-i era) ARE overclockable if you have a W or X model. It's not something you can set in the BIOS but some people have reported that Throttlestop will work once you boot into an OS. Apparently it only works with certain types of boards, and only if you have 1 physical CPU installed in the system, but give that a try and let us know if it works for you.

My PC has been based around a T3500 for quite awhile, but about all that is left from it is the motherboard. I bought a $15 W3570 CPU, which has an unlocked multiplier, which I run at 3.86GHz, tossed in a bunch of mismatched 2GB sticks of DDR3 1333. Swapped it into a Corsair Carbide case I modified to fit everything, Corsair 600W PSU, 120GB SATA SSD+1TB HDD...and was running a 290X until it died and had to replace it with an RX 580 8GB. I had always planned to upgrade CPU to $40 W3680 (6C/12T, unlocked multi, 32nm), but haven't bothered yet. Oh, I also added five inexpensive ARGB ring fans which were about $30 and have been surprisingly good so far.
I bought this $9000 CPU for $999 😁
