Just watched the video. Great question! As you guys all know, I’m a long time reader, as in really, really, really long time. There are times I ask myself why I still do it, is it healthy for me, but there’s also those several moments every year when I will finish a new comic and tell Mrs. Hound, “this is why I still read them”. And, the Pals community has reignited my desire to read week to week instead of trade waiting. I now find myself doing re-reads of in progress stories to refresh my senior citizen memory of the details of what is happening. Something Cale said on one of the first podcasts I listened to was a big influence. He said something to the effect that every superhero comic should have 1-2 moments when you “wow, that’s really cool”. So now, I look for them and eagerly expect them. More often than not, I find them, whether it’s a Silver Age comic, modern or somewhere in between. I guess that’s a long answer to say Yes!

Totally get where you're coming from and I feel similarly. When you've read comics for a long time it can be easy to become jaded, especially doing what we do on the show and not necessarily only reading the comics we want to read. But most of the time I feel like I have a good experience reading comics, and I still find myself wow'd by at least one book a month, which I think is pretty good!

I think I have a good perspective here bc I started this year. It's definitely still magic when you start.

I miss those early days so much! What are the comics that have hooked you most since you started?

@TheComicsPals so I made a conscious effort to start reading new #1s. So my faves so far are Superman, Green Arrow, Birds of Prey, Uncanny Spiderman and Iron Man (which I started mid run bc I'm reading the Fall of X stuff)

When i first picked up Preacher back in the 90's it was a page turner. Ennis and Dillons collaboration was just magical!

Great video, guys! I got into comics really early for my age and couldn't actually understand what was happening. I remember my dad buying me that Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man issue where Peter debuted the Iron-Spider suit and thought it was cool, but had no idea it was part of the 'road to Civil War' saga until years later. I would pick up some comics from time to time, but picking up Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman Prime in '08 was it for me. I think I've already mentioned this, but I thought Superman looked cool on the cover and bought it. That issue made me a comic fan for sure. After that, I followed the GL run until basically Blackest Night and went back and read stuff where Prime was involved, especially Infinite Crisis. That last fight on the surface of Mogo, with post-crisis Superman vs Prime, still gives me the chills. My nexus event for sure. On the other hand, I also have relatively recent moments, like Immortal Hulk or the Warworld Saga. I got late into both of them but could still feel the magic of reading issue after issue. Doomsday Clock and Forever Evil are other highlights for me. I had a dark time with DC in the last years (Metal Wars and the so-called Batman Who Laughs), but I know for a fact there are comics out there that will give the same magic I felt when I picked up that GL issue.

The magic comes and goes. There are periods of stale points - tired tropes and enforced events that derail - but all it takes is one title to reignite that spark. Magic for me was anything Grant Morrison tackled in the DCU or any Sandman/ Swamp Thing/ Doom Patrol material. The comic fairies are delivering more magic than ever for my tastes. I’m looking at you, upcoming Hellblazer book. After that concludes I could be finished with comics forever. Not really, but it would take a lot to get me any more excited than that.

That Hellblazer book is going to slap! And hard agree on the Sandman/ST/DP side, they almost always provide great moments to get engrossed in the medium again!

@@TheComicsPals There’s rumors about Vertigo making its return. But if you ask me, THIS is that. Constantine, Dream, and the Swamp Thing of the Moore era: there’s that special magic in anything the continues from that vintage Vertigo continuity.
