I’m a professional land surveyor and I have been wearing the Danner Bull Run Moc Toe for many years. Here is my review. They’re very comfortable with short break in time of 1-2 weeks. I prefer the tobacco color as it is stiffer (less oil) and I have found it to be more durable. I get them re-soled at a local cobbler for $95, 3 times before I buy a new pair. So they last me 3 years +/-. My first pair was the brown and after 2 years the leather separated/tore at the stitching near the lace holes. I have not had that problem with the tobacco. I agree with you on your review, my 2 complaints are; the brown is over oiled IMO and that inner fabric material at the the heel 18:19 breaks down right around the 2.5 year mark, that should be leather. I also use the Danner RAT for surveying on steep slopes. These are the US Marine issue boots. Because I use them rarely they will last a very long time. I average 10k steps a work day in them.

I’m on my second day with my non steel toe bull runs. I work in a plant that makes aluminum drive shafts. I’ve been through 4 pair of redwing dynaforce in the past 19 months of being employed here. My job is literally covered in heavyweight lube and stripping chemicals along with razor sharp aluminum. So far the break in is tough as I’m getting rub from the tongue where my ankle pivots. Other than that, pretty good so far. It’s like working on ice skates due to having the outsole that they have but hopefully that will get better with time. Will update in the future!

These videos came at a perfect time. I’ve been trying to decide if I should get these or have the soles replaced on my thorogoods for the last couple months. I decided to give the bull runs a shot. I bought them today right before work and wore them straight out of the box. They’re much better for the work I’m doing since they are lighter and less bulky than my thorogoods. The stitchdown construction was a bit of a pro and con. Con because of the potential lack of longevity but a pro for the flatter foot bed.

Just dropped my bull runs today for a resole, I absolutely love my danners, only complaint I have about the sole is that it wears quickly and because it is a foam type it absorbs alot of water, this will cause them to stink. The other complaint is the counter, mine after 2 years is showing some wear.

I just got the Thorogood American heritage black moc toe wedge soul boots . No break in period , super comfortable and they seem bulletproof in construction. I've only had them a few months see how it goes . looking forward to your review , really hoping they are a higher quality than red wing

I have worn these boots for the last year. Not too bad after I broke them in. They were a literal PAIN to break in though. I teach HS shop classes and coach football as well as a lot of manual labor around my place. They are comfortable enough but I will not resole these or buy them again. My biggest complaint is that where the upper, lower, and toe piece all come together there is an unsewn, unglued piece that allows dirt and sparks to slip past down to the top of my foot. I have experienced this many many times and I don't weld or cut nearly as much as someone who does that for a living. I have tried to glue them myself right there but it has not worked. Too many little flaws that have turned me off. am thinking of going with the Thorogood.

@roseanvil Have a couple pairs of these for office and casual wear use. For the aforementioned use, these boots are “ok”. Far from a work boot IMO. In my younger years working in the trades, no way I could afford to have to buy and then replace boots as much or often as needed with these. Guys expect their gear and tools to hold up and last when spending their hard earned money. I like Danner in terms of priding themselves on being a US company and manufacturing US made goods. That being said, if I’m being completely honest, the bull run is a bit of a disappointment. The leather IS very thin and the selected leather material used on one particular pair received shouldn’t have passed QC. That combined with severely unevenly finished bottom soles which required contacting customer service for return and replacement several times, I would probably be inclined to say pass for an applicational use as a hard use durable work boot. Thanks for making this video in addition to all the other great content.

Red wings are just a nicer, cleaner aesthetic with solid rep and build, quality control and unlike thorogood and danner are fully made and sourced in America. Yes they’re almost 1 bill more in price but if you’re not a dummy you don’t buy them off Rw and find them on eBay for 200 or factory seconds for even less.

I fall on the side of NON-BS... They are fine boots. They aren't made to be mini tanks for your feet. Just like "Bud-Light" & "drinkability, these boots have "wearability"... Everyone likes the idea of a "Goodyear" welt but I have to be honest, I have about 3-4 pairs of boots now that are all brand newish that I hunted out specifically because they have a proper 360* Goodyear welt and I dont wear any of them. They're too stiff! I cant get passed the break-in period. They just aren't practical enough for me. I don't build railroads for a living. I don't go pioneering thru un-charted jungles.. I drive a commercial vehicle. Its possible to have a really good pair of boots without having the heaviest duty construction. In actuality, a really "well made" light duty boot would be better suited to a larger percentage of the population. Im giving up on "Goodyear" welts personally. If I ever decide to go mountaineering I have a closet full of them!

Danner. Known for their lightness and comfort if you are on your feet all day. Thin leather is ok as long as it is quality and you are not getting slicing from tools and sharp rocks. They call for premium prices which... they are not Redwings, Nicks, Whites, Wesco. They win over Wolverine and lower brands hands down.

I've been wearing these in the fall and cooler months for the last 2 years. They definitely have a rough break in period, but they are comfortable after that. I also upgraded the foot beds to the fatigue fighter. Bit pricey but they do work. And I used the OEM foot beds in my Woolrich slippers which was an added bonus! They also took a beating as a dog toy for one evening and survived! Granted, it was a small dog and I did have replace the laces. Now that I see the shank I'm worried about having the soles redone if they wear down a lot. And now I wonder if was a reason I got stopped at TSA checkpoints! :D

I tried these out. I'm a Construction Foreman and they were used for typical walking around a construction site. I purchased then directly from the Danner store here in Portland, OR. The first pair, the stitching started to fail within the first couple days. I took then back to Danner and they wanted to just repair the stitching on BRAND NEW BOOTS, but after arguing with them they finally gave me a new pair. The second pair, the stitching showed signs of starting to fail after about a month, so instead of having to deal with Danner a second time I just coated the stitching with gorilla glue. That seemed to slow the failure. But then the soles started to sperate after a couple months. I cleaned and scuffed up the surfaces, then gorilla glued and clamped them together. That seemed to work. At about 6 month the upper eyelets started to tear out, and holes started to develop in the toes. These are VERY light duty boots! I'm done with Danner!

I just bought these for my side job a UPS and so far its my I've worn them for about a week without any physically tough labor yet (first week at UPS is just safety learning...), so mostly walking around. My first issue was with the fabric liner hurting my foot, more specifically on top of the foot on the inside of the boot where the liner is stitched there is extra liner material just hanging loose. I scrapped most of the extra material off and it did the trick. Second, the heel of the boot is soo fucking stiff, its to the point where I'm about to get a blister. The heel part I haven't fixed but I'm thinking of buying this leather heel liner cushion from amazon to see if that does the trick cause the heel of the boot feels like hard cardboard. I've owned the Red Wing Irish Setter Moc Toe work boots and never had that problem, But the Danners Bull Run have a much more spacious toe box. Besides these two issues, the Danner Bull Run Moc Toe boots are good so far. I'm a size 11 in Nike Running shoes and my foot is a bit on the wide side but nothing too crazy. for my Red Wing Irish Setters I'm a size 10.5 D, for the Danners I'm a 10 EE. Just to give you an idea.

Bull Runs are the most "deconstructed" Danners, meant to feel like leather socks. The original run, with the Vibram lug sole, before they switched to the moc-toe and the wedge, were stupidly comfortable to hike in because they *breathed* I own a pair of Christie-soled moc-toe Bull Runs and comparing them to the Loggers or even the Mountain Lights is silly. The Loggers are built in straps and layers to provide stability for a person walking on a slope, doing dangerous work. The Bull Run would never do that job.
@TheKyleMark4 жыл бұрын
They’re pretty much as simple as a boot gets and I think that’s their strength. They don’t feel like big heavy clomping around boots, they’re light and comfortable and the soles are almost reminiscent of that gummy Doc Marten feel but sturdier because of the shank and the wide base. They’re not hardcore heavy duty boots, they’re just a nice thing to have on your feet that can support your ankles and get some work done.

I think thorogoods are next Thursday! I bet that ridge you get was the rib I was talking about in this video

I had a similar experience with the Thorogoods! The welt and/or the leather "joints area (where two pieces of leather are sawn together)" was digging into my foot really badly on one of the boots. Then on the other boot, the cork must have been mis-shaped in the foot-bed....it made my foot pronate inwards and gave me a painful knee. I could not use them at all! Very disappointed.
@nestibear4 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that you would say that because I actually had a pretty similar problem with my pair of thorogoods.
@bobsmith-ji2uh4 жыл бұрын
I had that too but it was right under the ball of my left foot. Though I’ve had good luck with thorogoods in the past.

I have really liked my Thorogood moc toes. They have speed laces unlike the Red WIngs, are much cheaper. have a shank, are unlined unlike some other moc toes, good quality leather, and have a removable insole which for work boots I view as a positive (especially with my flat feet). Redwing and others make fantastic boots, but for the price I think the Thorogood's make better beaters
@junkedits80683 жыл бұрын
Danner better than red wings hands down. I’ve done heavy work in the same pair for 3 years now. Outside all winter snow slush puddles no leaks , the thinner leather holds up and once broken in feels like a wearing a slipper to work. Hours in sub zero temps and feet are still toasty, Don’t be fooled by red wings bulky leather construction less is more with these boots.
@letsgobrandon83753 жыл бұрын
I dropped redwing and I've been wearing the Carolinas boots made in the u.s.a. they also make Double H cowboy boots and those are the only cowboy boots I wear.

Danners Bull Run all day. I wore redwings and Thorogoods, DieHards etc. for years. Having five pound weights on each foot killed me. Now I work in a lumber yard and wear these because of their lightweight and mobility...... don’t take the advice of office workers and hipster boot wearers with scarves and blue hair. LIGHTWEIGHT BEATS HEAVY AND FLUNKY ALL DAY. Save your hips back and knees!!!!

I own Danner Bull Run for about 6 months, I do light work at my job and they are the best boots I ever owned, super comfortable feels like a sneaker but with the stability of a boot, love them.

How are they with your feet after a long day? No pain, less pain? I'm pretty much on my feet throughout the day and looking into anti-fatigue boots
@maxhubert37854 жыл бұрын
@@itslani637 Absolutely no pain, I used to where sneakers to work and my feet and lower back would hurt like crazy every night, the first day I got my Danner pain was all gone, they are super comfortable and the stability from the sole and the shank is a must for my back.

Yup, that pretty much nails it. These are just nice lightweight comfortable boots for light to medium work. Nothing fancy or hardcore, just a nice thing to have on your feet.

@maxhubert37854 жыл бұрын
@@itslani637 I normally wear 12, I went with 12 wide, they are a bit big but honestly I like it that way, unless you can try them before you buy or you buy many size and return them I would just go with your regular size and go wide if you don't like your feet being squeezed like me.

I've had these boots for about 6 months now, and they are the most comfy out-of-the-box boots I've owned. They really do feel like sneakers. Not sure why they receive a lot of hate.

@@NoNameNo.5 I went through 2 pairs of Thorogoods moc toes, narrow toe box, wide heel box, floppy leather, floppy feels about it after 4hrs into a day. Im sporting non moc toe bull runs right now and Danners are #1 following RW 10875, Carolina and Thorogoods

@@milkeywhey2998 I been through two thorogoods. And they start smelling weird. I clean them with the right oils and what not and the leather has this bad smell. Danner and even Irish setters don’t do this. Has anyone else gone through this?

After watching this review, I went and tried on a few pairs of the Bull Run boots, and I have to say, they are super comfortable, I think I will be getting a pair when it's time to get a new pair of work boots...
@JJ-lu6mg4 жыл бұрын
I’ve had them and I think they are a little B/S. I prefer the Thorogood’s for a work boot they were more comfortable and used better leather over the Danner in my opinion. Out of them all I still think Redwings Heritage Mocs are made the best with higher quality materials, but not the best for a work boot. Thx for all the work you do in these reviews 👍🏼

I have a pair of these Bullruns. The 1st pair I got, I sent back because one was wrinkled a lot worse than the other. The second pair, Danner sent to me along with gifts, (a beanie hat and leather oil for the boots) because they agreed the wrinkles were worse on one boot. I was happy! However.... the 2nd pair of boots now are so wrinkly that I believe they are the leather of a cows nutsack. Otherwise they are extremely comfortable boots and I’d still buy another pair!
