I've worn these boots for 3 years on construction sites and really work in them. Had them resoled 3 times. No issue with the counter cover. Very comfortable and durable after initial break in of the leather which took about 2 weeks. These soles are soft and do wear but are great to stand on all day.

What kind of work do you do? My thorogoods start smelling bad after 7 months or so. I take care of the outside. The inside well I’ve never seen any type of care. Changing the insoles? I wear carhartt socks. Just bought these today. My second pair.

I've had these exact boots for over 4 years as an auto mechanic and they have been very comfortable. The fabric counter liner definitely wore pretty early on and the counter did slowly break apart eventually. The moc toe stitching also came apart after a couple years. Great boot that served me extremely well but I love trying new things, so I have a pair of Thorogoods coming in the mail tomorrow!

@jake.vigesaa
@jake.vigesaa 3 жыл бұрын
@@Atvmx21 Really really comfortable, and no complaints on the external durability so far. Only very minor drawbacks at this point are the cloth toebox liner definitely has a few holes and there seems to be a slight bump developed in one tiny spot on the right boot's sole. Need a couple more years to give an accurate comparison to the Danners, but so far I'm really liking the Thorogoods!

Lots of walking miles through facilities moving tools etc. Word to the wise; if you foot is always slopping over the welt you should buy wider boots. I noticed my big toe outside tips had lost sensation and after nearly 10 years of not wearing the wrong size boots it’s aaaalmost better. 😅

I’m a professional land surveyor and I have been wearing the Danner Bull Run Moc Toe for many years. Here is my review. They’re very comfortable with short break in time of 1-2 weeks. I prefer the tobacco color as it is stiffer (less oil) and I have found it to be more durable. I get them re-soled at a local cobbler for $95, 3 times before I buy a new pair. So they last me 3 years +/-. My first pair was the brown and after 2 years the leather separated/tore at the stitching near the lace holes. I have not had that problem with the tobacco. I agree with you on your review, my 2 complaints are; the brown is over oiled IMO and that inner fabric material at the the heel 18:19 breaks down right around the 2.5 year mark, that should be leather. I also use the Danner RAT for surveying on steep slopes. These are the US Marine issue boots. Because I use them rarely they will last a very long time. I average 10k steps a work day in them.

I sold boots at an outdoor store in SF during the 90's. I have a pair of Danner Ft Lewis boots that I've replaced the sole 3 times. They're stitch down construction and still going strong. I have a pair of Italian made Merrell wilderness backpacking boots that I hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail in and they're stitch down as well. We sold a few Danner hiking models like the Mountain light and Ft Lewis for military types and the Canadian for hunters. Danner always had very informative clinics for store employees back then. They really stressed their leather and stitch down construction. The also had the best "pro-deal" for store employees, 40% below wholesale. I really liked all the technical construction information about outdoor gear and since our store carried a wide selection of boots it was easy to find the right boot for the customers feet and needs. I like all the detail you go into about construction and find your channel very informative.

I own and have worn the red wing, danner and thorogood boots you are cutting open. Worn in light duty construction to roofing and office use. Here are my thoughts. The Red wing 875 - definitely the most durable and hardest to break in. Had them resoled (4) times over five years and once broken in are wonderful. However mine need to be put to pasture as the repairs just aren’t worth it now. Last thing to note - wish I got them in a wide size, my pinky toe was off the sole once broken in. The danner bull run - super easy to break in and great width in the boot, actually got them in wide and enjoy the extra room. They aren’t gusseted as high as the 875’s and can get some dirt in them. I also do work on ocean front homes and sand loves to find it’s way in the boot. After the initial break in you hit the fiberboard and are missing the contoured footbed of the 875’s, feels really flat, for lack of a better term. I would not recommend for heavy construction. Lastly, the heel construction on these is disappointing and the boot ends up sagging in the back with little to no support. It’s comfortable but not great for a roof, really sloppy in there. Lastly, the thorogoods - was easy to break in, about same as danner. However there is a plastic toe cap on these that starts right where my pinky toe stops and anytime I’d get into a catchers position would pinch my pinky toes. Actually stopped wearing them because of this. The heel on them is really loose feeling compared to the toe box - which I wish was larger. Definitely made for more narrow feet. I’d say the sole longevity is about the same as danner’s. I have the brown upper with black wedge sole, looks great, but uncomfortable. The boots also end up with the ‘flat’ feeling once you’re through the removable insole. I’ve conditioned all of them with mink oil and it really helps break in and leather longevity. I also don’t mind darkening the leather. Final thoughts - I’d love to see a boot with red wing quality, longevity, heel and counter construction. With the toe box room of the danner boots. I don’t think I’d add anything from the thorogoods. Would love to see a review on the White’s boots ‘Perry’ mov toe. They kinda look like they might fit my description above. Love the channel and am thankful for all of the information. Here’s to 300k! Sorry for the novel.

I have a pair of whites, and I love em! I also own a pair of red wings, but didn’t get them in wide, so I don’t wear them often. The whites have great toe room, and quality built. Compared to the break in of red wings, whites doesn’t have any time, which I appreciate, nowadays.

I started working construction years ago. I bought Whites Boots ie custom made, heavy and long lasting. I needed a lighter boot and went to Danners. I have owned 4 pairs made in Portland and 2 foreign made pairs. Great awesome boots. I bought a new pair of Bull Run 6” because I walk a lot on concrete slabs. They feel like sneakers. I test fit Thorogood boots before selecting the Danner Bull Run. I have narrow feet and the Danners kept my ankle anchored and the well made Thorogoods did not.

I've been wearing a pair of regular toe Bullruns for about 18 months. I really like them because they broke in really easy and are exceptionally comfortable. I'm hard on shoes/boots and they're holding up ok. The soles have worn a little faster than I expected, and now I know to keep an eye on the heel area. I also have a pair of Thorogoods and like them quite a bit better from a durability standpoint - but they were harder to break in and are not as comfortable. I'll be very interested to see how they compare.

I think what you said hit the nail on the head , I’ve worn two pairs black and brown and both have split in the hand stitched moc toe area . I’m a commercial electrician was putting in a lot of hours on sofi stadium and they are super comfortable after break in . But they weren’t built for construction, maybe warehouse work

I've had these boots for about three years now. I opted for them because of the lower cost of entry over the red wing mocs. Overall they're super comfortable, the break in period was easy and pretty pain-free. They have a sneaker like comfort with the boot like stability which I really enjoy. The heel cup on mine have worn through after 3 years of mostly casual wear, so now my heel rubs against the counter. It hasn't caused any discomfort or anything yet, but I know the end is near for them unfortunately I think. Definitely not bs but having owned the red wing mocs now, the quality difference is very obvious!

I like your comment, it's informative and brings up the quality to cost aspect very well. Some ppl might not want to spend 300$+(?) On a boot and knowing that the bulls are good for their cost is nice. (Obviously 100$+ more expensive should give you a better boot) (redwing)

I wear my bull runs 3 out of 7 days a week... been over a year... haven't had any issues with the heel counter... I honestly prefer my Danners over my red wing mocs, for multiple reasons... Red wing mocs have a very stiff feel, while danners insole is super nice and easy.. the outsole on my danners is softer than my red wings, but ironically hasn't "shaved" down have as much... Love the fact they are $100 and have the cool American flag... Love both brands, but I prefer the Danner moc.

The laces started chewing through the tongue pretty quick so bought a false tongue from nicks boots and was the best upgrade i could've made to these boots, it added a lot of structure and has prolonged the life of these by a lot

I have a pair of steel toe Bull Runs that I use for work. Most of this work consists of factory tours and light work within manufacturing settings. For this type of light work, they are a phenomenal boot for the price. They are very comfortable and I find myself not needing to rip them off my feet the second I get home. Like most boots in this segment, they're not great for winter. And as you mentioned in the video, for a more heavy duty workload, I would likely suggest a different boot.

Bull Runs are the most "deconstructed" Danners, meant to feel like leather socks. The original run, with the Vibram lug sole, before they switched to the moc-toe and the wedge, were stupidly comfortable to hike in because they *breathed* I own a pair of Christie-soled moc-toe Bull Runs and comparing them to the Loggers or even the Mountain Lights is silly. The Loggers are built in straps and layers to provide stability for a person walking on a slope, doing dangerous work. The Bull Run would never do that job.
@TheKyleMark
@TheKyleMark 4 жыл бұрын
They’re pretty much as simple as a boot gets and I think that’s their strength. They don’t feel like big heavy clomping around boots, they’re light and comfortable and the soles are almost reminiscent of that gummy Doc Marten feel but sturdier because of the shank and the wide base. They’re not hardcore heavy duty boots, they’re just a nice thing to have on your feet that can support your ankles and get some work done.

I have a pair of these. The “Lux” ones with the black sole (I don’t like white soles). The most comfortable boots for me. As far as longevity I don’t really know yet. I’ve been wearing them all day at work and all day at home for 5 months. The ridges on the soles are probably 1/3 worn on the ball of my foot but not really worn on to an angle on my right foot yet, which is my “trouble spot” for soles. In any case, I love them. They’re not as hot as a lot of my other boots have been. The tongue shifts a bit more than I like but I will definitely be buying them again. FYI, when they’re new I recommend the flat laces for break-in comfort and switching to the round ones after a few months. They break in rather easily, though.

Of the moc toe boots i went with these danners because i liked the leather and i felt that the stitch down design would make it easier to resole later on. However, i didn’t consider the fabric counter. After the insole, that will be the next part to fail and might be fatal for the shoe. Also they were comfortable, i do have wide feet. I actually didn’t get these for work so hopefully they will last a while. They are a replacement for an old pair of doc martins.

Have the Danner moc toe because I liked their hiking boots. I don’t work construction anymore but don’t have a desk job either. One thing I loved about them was the height. Maybe I have a tall foot, IDK but so many boots and shoes I’ve tried put pressure across the top of my foot and that hurts! Usually where the tongue is sewn to the upper and leather will stretch and form but stitched won’t. Not an issues with these. So much more comfortable. And over $100 less than the Red, Wing and Thorogood.

Danner better than red wings hands down. I’ve done heavy work in the same pair for 3 years now. Outside all winter snow slush puddles no leaks , the thinner leather holds up and once broken in feels like a wearing a slipper to work. Hours in sub zero temps and feet are still toasty, Don’t be fooled by red wings bulky leather construction less is more with these boots.

After break in they're one of my most comfortable boots literally like slippers. I have gone through the heel lining but there hasn't been any discomfort as of yet. Providing you keep the stitch down clean and take care of it I'll easily be able to have these resoled as the outsole does wear down fairly fast

The second pair, Danner sent to me along with gifts, (a beanie hat and leather oil for the boots) because they agreed the wrinkles were worse on one boot. I was happy! However.... the 2nd pair of boots now are so wrinkly that I believe they are the leather of a cows nutsack. Otherwise they are extremely comfortable boots and I’d still buy another pair!

My job is literally covered in heavyweight lube and stripping chemicals along with razor sharp aluminum. So far the break in is tough as I’m getting rub from the tongue where my ankle pivots. Other than that, pretty good so far. It’s like working on ice skates due to having the outsole that they have but hopefully that will get better with time. Will update in the future!

I don't think Danner puts out BS, some ugly styles for sure, but they're pretty consistent at delivering quality for the price point that you choose. For the current offering under "Work" boots, 23 different styles, the average shoe for men retails at ~$231 with the Bull Runs averaging ~$190, with the Flashpoint coming in $US400 for the high end and the Romeo rounding out the lower end at $100. These are all the prices posted on their website as of 10/16/20 so I'm using them as guidance vs Amazon or whatever. I'm no expert but I've owned four pairs of Danners already and I can tell you that the quality of the construction, materials and fit varies significantly between the prices paid. My Caprine and Mountain Low's were nowhere near as good as my Mountain Light or RAT's but there's a $200 difference, and the same goes for the Bull Run line. Obviously you should expect good quality for a name-brand work boot priced at $190, but I’m guessing that their pricing matrix puts a lot more emphasis on generating profits from styles that are majority sourced and assembled in the US than those in Vietnam and that one might be paying a brand premium of ~$30 or more to own a pair of Bull Runs. So if as a buyer you're looking to see if Danner sells BS, you should probably ask yourself first if you're in the market for paying a premium on a pair of work boots because their reputation is that good or if you're just looking for a pair of nice lifestyle shoes that fit your budget, because I think Danner has both of those customers figured out already.

I've been wearing these in the fall and cooler months for the last 2 years. They definitely have a rough break in period, but they are comfortable after that. I also upgraded the foot beds to the fatigue fighter. Bit pricey but they do work. And I used the OEM foot beds in my Woolrich slippers which was an added bonus! They also took a beating as a dog toy for one evening and survived! Granted, it was a small dog and I did have replace the laces. Now that I see the shank I'm worried about having the soles redone if they wear down a lot. And now I wonder if was a reason I got stopped at TSA checkpoints! :D
