Need a "Best Work Boots" video series specifically for people who work in the trades or are on their feet 8+ hours per day, often in harsh environments. All types of work boots. I think this would be a popular series for you. Tradespeople drop serious money on footwear. It's hard to know who are cutting corners like Carhartt until you've wasted your cash.
@thooks1234

Not many people would wear or like these, but for ROUGH, HARSH environment (kneeling with toes on the concrete/dirt, welding, wet/mud/57 stone/gravel/etc.), needing a steel toe with comfort on concrete 8-10 hours a day, the Keen Utility US Made boots with steel toe, large rubber toe box cover, Gortex lining, etc., are tough to beat. They aren't cheap but will last 14-18 months in these harsh conditions, provide protection, comfort and meet OSHA requirements. They don't meet the heel for ladder climbing, tho. Most tradesmen I know wear the square toe, steel toe pull-up boots and they get 12-14 months out of them.

Nicks has the best work boot in the world with the toughest leather and toughest construction with their max-wear boot, however it costs $550-700, Red Wing has decent heritage work boots that are $300-400, including the moc toe, not as durable as nicks, however or customizable, and their boots aren’t the best for wide feet, and their king toe boot is a shitty boot made in Cambodia same with the rest of their non-heritage stuff. Thorogood has very good construction, almost rivals red wing in quality, and is $200-300 with many different options of boots ( imo the best for value ) I feel like anything under that $200 is simply worthless because the construction and comfort goes to shit after that with various brands.

I got hooked on this channel for its originality and insightful comments across multiple brands and styles of boots and shoes. I feel like this channel has gone in a strange direction that is getting away from what made it good in the first place. Gotta disagree with the ranking for Thorogood. I have their 8" waterproof version and even though they have a synthetic lining, they are ready for their 3rd season/resole. They will need a new welt, but only because after being resoled twice, the cobbler I normally use has ground the welt down pretty close to the boot. Im nitpicking- but the 6'' Danner bull runs sell for 210, and 220 for steel toe. The 230 price point Bull run is the "Bull Run Lux" boot- slightly thinner leather, more color options, etc. theyre 99% the same boot though. in your original Moctober Bull run boot you cut the regular moc in half, for the 1000 mile one you cut the Lux in half. Last year in your Moctober series the Bull Runs sold for 190. Danner upped their prices this year. I think at 190 its a solid deal and great US/Union made boot, but I wouldnt go much higher in price for that. AWesome video as usual!

I watched the Moctober a year ago and it got me intrigued on the MoC toe style boot. So I decided to purchase some Redwings and Thorogood’s. Having bought both brand I strongly believe Redwings are absolutely no question a top quality made boot, but I believe they are best suited for more casual wear they are a bear to break in and believe me you will have a love hate relationship with them. Thorogood’s are work ready right out of the box and I’ve wore them hard from cutting down trees to loading concrete to roofing. As far as both brands you can’t go wrong they will last both are great and that’s what it’s about. When they are dirty just dust them off clean them up add some oil and you will have a long lasting boot.

I've had mine for 5 years now and they're still great. I worked construction for 2 of those years with them and have worn them for other jobs for the other 3 and I still love them. I've spent probably 1,700 out of those 1,800 days wearing these boots cuz they're so comfortable. They've handled getting concrete on them and long days in the rain for those first couple years. I just clean and oil them every 6 months. The only downsides are cracking of the leather and the protective toe was useless after 3 years. I paid $170 for them and would definitely buy them again at that price, but now I'm looking at these videos since they're so expensive now. I think that's the main issue he's critical about

They are incredibly comfortable and I get compliments all the time, my feet never hurt. People are always shocked that they are a steel toe. Will be getting them resoled as the shank is coming thru on the right shoe. Has some wear on the toe from scuffs due to crawling around for my job but I’m incredibly pleased with these boots, should be higher on the list. At the time I bought these they were under $200. I did a resole on my 8" tobacco thorogood boots. I think it was a little over $125 at the time and yes it's true, I could have just spent another 100 or so at the time to get new ones. Red Wing definitely deserves that S spot, being the OG, being the second best construction, but basically being half the price of the Nicks Boots. @Chris09978

Well in my opinion I believe that it deserve a high A tier, although they are the ones who started it but it all comes to the quality of the boot Red wings are pretty good boots for the price point and you do get your money’s worth, Nicks on the other hand defiantly deserves that S spot hands down, all of the construction and work is put into that boot is done all by hand and you are paying for the work, the quality, and the overall construction of the boot, yes nicks are expensive but in the long run they tend to be cheaper cause an outsole good year weld replacement cost around $150 buck but the boot is still yours and they will last for a very very long time, probably don’t need another boot within probably 5-10 years time compared to synthetic materials that’s used which is only going to last about 6-18months they just wear out and just to be disposed in the bin, that’s why I’m looking into leather boots and shoes for day to day wear but has the same durability as a work boot, from me digging around to find a leather that is completely waterproof durable and comfortable without sacrificing either is shark skin leather, looking into this type of leather cause looking for a boot that i can wear all year round and not have to worry about the leather fading if it gets wet or dry out over time

I've had the Danner Moc Toe for about two years of near daily wear. I'm not too hard on them, since I treat them as everyday wear boots rather than work boots. I have run in them playing kickball games with the kids (can't recommend, due to the lack of tread, trust me). They are some of the most comfortable shoes I own, and hands down the most comfortable boots, even after two years. I have some wear on the insoles, and that's about it. The tread has minor wear, but I don't drag my feet like a lot of people who wear boots seem to. I got them on sale when I bought them though, so it was a fantastic deal. Leather still looks great, even with only occasional dusting off (I should probably take better care of them). My sole has turned tan when it used to be white though because I live in the country and am not afraid to walk in grass. It is unfortunate that the non-sale price has gone up $40 since I bought mine, though. Hope this helps.

I will say this, I love my redwings. I wore my iron rangers until I walked the sole off and then had a vibrant lug sole put it. Then I wore them longer. And they’re about shot while the sole on them still has another year or two on it. I love those boots they’re super comfortable and durable but when my foot first hit my bucks builder pros it was a whole new world. I didn’t think it could get much better than the redwings but the nicks leather is a superior leather. It is thicker and heavier and just a better leather for boots. And the construction is noticeably more durable. My first redwing sole started to separate at the toe and with the stitching and screws I know that my nicks boots will never down that. For that reason I understand why the nicks are in category S but I also believe that the redwings should be there too. They are too iconic and for the average person that doesn’t wear the same boots 12 hours a day 7 days a week you will probably never have a problem with the redwings. Especially if you don’t work them too hard. I love both boots but if I was to buy one today it would be the nicks, the quality just can’t be beat. Take the first hand information I have comparing nicks and redwings after several thousand miles in both and due with it as you will. This is my 2¢, thank you for reading this, have a good evening and may good bless you.

I disagree that the Thorogood should be in the A category. They are good work boots but not nearly good enough quality to be in that A category. I own several pairs of Thorogood and several pairs of Red Wing. I enjoy all of them. However, there is substantial differences in the quality of the Red Wing Heritage moc toe over the Thorogood. However, I will agree, that the Thorogood is a better true work boot when compared to the Red Wing Heritage moc toe, due to the fact that they are available with steel or composite toes, and they require less break-in. I will also note that I am really disappointed to see Red Wing move a lot of the production of their true work boots out of the USA. I understand why they have, but it is a shame.

For comfort only I love my Danner mocs. They're probably the most sneaker-like boot I've tried, very cushioned and extremely comfortable. The biggest issue I found was the soles being made of a very porous foam-like material which sucks up water and dirt so if you're working inside they'll make your floor filthy. The leather is also quite thin and will look old and beat up after a year or so of regular use.

I personally think the Whites, Red Wing, and Nick's should be in the same tier. I understand the S tier should really only be for "the best overall single boot", but the pricepoint on the Nick's skews the Quality / Cost equation to make them even with the White's and Red Wing. Nothing bad to say about them as I agree they're one of the nicest looking boots and quality of materials is likely the best, but that price tag really makes me happy I went with the White's Perry. A few weeks into breaking my White's in and I feel like I'm walking on clouds.

I never see this mentioned, so I’ll share my experience. Working as an apprentice electrician, I had to push heavy cargo carts all day. Moc-toe stitching binds the top of metatarsal area as boot bends, causing painful restrictions with every step. Stitches are not designed to stretch like leather. Smoothe round toes are much more practical for a genuine worker’s boot, and make more sense...unless you’re a boot fashion model.

You should define "work" because the rock rooster boots with the actual welt and real upper and ok inner for $105 are the best boot for the average American. Also, you should think about "a good price" wording because I live in Oregon and we have minimum wage higher then most states non minimum wage job, like a mill worker in Mississippi makes less then a lawn care worker in Oregon making all the boots you mention too expensive for their Mississippi "work" as you put it. Not to mention you could outfit a whole work crew in rock rooster for the price of one Nicks...I'm not dissing nicks, they're the best boot, but nicks is a specialty boot company. You should say...if you are a line utility person or concrete worker..or asphalt layer in Washington state buy the nicks, If you are the same profession in say Idaho with less pay buy Carolina; other then that rock rooster. Daner, whites and others had their day in the sun and made their money and now time and technology have caught up making the product obsolete and reduced them to hipster boots. I love my Lem’s Boots too and think they are a great product! But barefoot style boots are not going to score great on these specific categories. They need a very flexible sole and no midsole so they just aren’t going to have the durability. They need a really wide toe box which has many benefits but also looks funny. There’s nothing sleek about them. Value struggles in that they are not meant to last as long as work boots as they want tactile feedback and more minimal construction. So I think they are a great product but their benefits weren’t really criteria on this specific test. Lems plays an entirely different game than these others.

I just randomly came into this because it popped up for me. I can't speak from a casual lifestyle, but I can speak from a purely Industrial/Work setting where we get to chose the boots we want and I've tried a couple on the list (steel toed) and I have to go with Danner. They've held up for me well, I get no questions about the price when I buy a new pair every year or so(Company dime), they break in fast and allow me to get back to work in record times with no discomfort. I dont lace up all the way at first but after the first couple of days I'm able to and they're great. Emotional attachment is hit or miss with me. THe boots that still look good after a year or so I take home with me and use them for homestead stuff, but otherwise I dont feel bad when I toss them and get a new pair. Over the years they've been light enough for me to perform well, durable enough to stand the seasons, and I'm not heartbroken if something bad happens to them. I'm kjicking with them, using the steel toe as leverage points. They're scored and cut and mangled and still are able to perform well. I get having nice thick leather that will last a lifetime and mold to my foot but I dont expect any boot I own to last 5 years in what I do. I expect to throw them on, beat them up adn take them off and when I get a new pair to have little to no downtime. Danner is pretty good for those.

Love your videos! Can you review the HISEA Moc toes? I just bought myself a pair and would love to see your thorough review on them. Thank you!

I have a pair of Red Wing 838 Wingshooters 7 in. that I bought in July of 2020. I wear on concrete floor in a defense plant..I wear them 3 days a week, rotating between a horribly uncomfortable pair of Justin pull ons, and an even more uncomfortable pair of Doc Marten Ironbridge (terrible). The Red Wing 838s are THE most comfortable shoe/boot I’ve ever worked in or worn. I can only compare them to expensive running shoes in regards to comfort. And they are still in really good shape, they only have basic wear, but still intact. I’ve probably worked in them 400 times now. Mostly just 8 hour days. I’d like to try some of these others, like the Thorogood for example. But it will be very hard to buy anything but the Red Wing 838 when the time comes. I’m curious how best to clean them though, especially the soles. Thanks for the video!

I’ve had the Thursday’s for about 2 1/2 years now. Only really wear them in Fall - Winter but they’ve held up incredibly well. I don’t work a trade job (anymore) so the more refined look, easy break in period, and overall plush feeling is perfect for me.

Have you looked into ARIATS moc toe boots, rebar or otherwise? I've not found ANY good reviews on them and I can't think of any other place I'd like to watch one.

Hey man. Great content! Got a small request for you; Could we do a modern military/combat boot series??? As someone who's combat boots double as their daily's, I would love to see a series of breakdowns on the different brands of military boots. Some suggestions would be Altima, Altberg, Rockies, Lowa's, and Danners. I'm sure there are more brands, as a canadian infantryman, those are the ones I am most familiar with. My desire to properly care for my pair of Altbergs is what brought me to your channel; specifically the episode on leather care and restoration. Again, great work. Can't wait to see more!

I'd be curious enough to watch that content, too. I don't have any reason to own combat boots, but nearly everyone I associate with personally and professionally does. Just from my observations of quite a number of Green Berets and Raiders, you might consider adding Salomon to the brands you're requesting seeing. I've never asked anyone why they chose them, but I've seen a whole lot of Salomons on folks here for winter training.

Mate excellent vid, l am in Australia and the Nicks are the boot for me, pricey, but as you said the durability out ways the cost of several boots.

I’d still love to see the USA made Georgia Boots moc toe in there somewhere…you can get them on sale for around $160 with a 15 or 20% sale that they run frequently. Most comfortable boots I have ever had on my feet, and I have tried most of the ones listed here other than the whites and nicks.

I recently got a pair of the same model Carolina boots that he showed for $139 I think (not $200) from the Carolina website, but they were out of the brown ones, and I had to take the black ones that were on sale. I haven't worn them enough to get them fully broken in, but I am very pleased with their roomy toe box (2E). I think the brown ones were listed at $159. I don't really like the look of the black ones as the brown ones, but appearance isn't a high priority, and they were $20 cheaper and in stock. Besides, when they get broken in, the appearance won't be all that different.

I have the Harley but I bought them to be a casual boot. The are comfortable to me but I would not consider it a work boot. As a casual boot they have held up well but I can see where you are coming from it relation to work boots.

I have had a pair of Thorogoods and they have lasted me for 8 yrs, I will get them resolved soon, I love them. May retire them to casual wear as opposed to daily work load but if ibut another pair I hope they are still the great quality these were.
