Thanks for making these videos Ben. It took 10 years for my 2014 TCM to throw the fault. Luckily I was within the warranty and the dealer near me replaced it. Felt like a totally new vehicle, wickedly more responsive and snappy. Your assurance that the engine is actually incredibly reliable has made me feel better about keeping it until it truly quits on me.

I can attest to Tom's Tune; my 2013 clutch was shuttering and slipping in first/second (the common issue). Heard about the Tune and a lot of positive reviews. Tom was awesome to work with; You get a base-tune to put on the car - then gather some data (while driving) using a laptop through the ODB2 port. Send him that data and he returns a custom tune for the car. Been running it for 2 years now and the transmission shifts perfectly.

I brought my 2013 focus into a ford dealership due to reoccurring p07a5 and p287a codes, to which they replaced the tcm under recall and made the car completely undrivable. The car was drivable prior to bringing it in as i would unstick the bottom actuator every week or so and it would drive through gears until it would stick again. However, immediately after they gave the car back i got a transmission hot alert and a transmission fault service now notice. Kinda crazy that they are good with doing that, I would’ve respected it if they said they didn’t want to or couldn’t service it rather than actually brick the car and tell me on the phone that the car is fixed prior to picking it up. The car also only had 2 more miles on it than when I dropped it off

hi Ben, where is that clanking sound coming from when i turn off the car, is it from the tcm or from the throttle body?

I have a couple of questions. 1. Can i load a calibration with Forscan? If i can where can i get the calibration? 2. I recently had to swap a motor into a 2012 focus, but i got an engine from junkyard out of a 2016. The 2016 had a sensor located in the cylinder head between cylinders 2 and 3, that thr 2012 does not have. I dont know if that was a new sensor that Ford added or if they just moved it from a different location. When i put it in, i didnt have an unused plug anywhere else. The motor didnt start, but that was because it had 3 cylinders that were bad, so i wxchabged it from an engine i pulled out of a 2013 that didnt have that sensor. If the 2017 motor was good, would it have run without that sensor plugged into the 2012 harness?

@irishdadx4 hi, ford directs us to use the old valve cover on replacement engines. So basically I wouldn't worry about that sensor. And I'm not sure about your first question as I've never used forscan to program a tcm. There are videos on KZbin on that which are helpful. As far as a calibration, you can look around on forscan Facebook groups or Google that. Sorry. Wish I could be more help there. I'll do that some day I'm sure and I'll do a video
@irishdadx43 ай бұрын
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles interesting about the valve cover, since you would need to remove the sensor from the cylinder head in order to use the old valve cover, since it sticks up above the cover. I dont know what removing the sensor would do. I dont know if it opens to a oil gallery, or a water jacket. I was just leaving it unconnected, but since the entire engine was crap I swapped it out for a second replacement, with a motor from a 2013 that didnt have the sensor. As far as the forscan, I have used the software to reprogram 2 different focus' with new clutches I replaced, and one I replaced the TCM a couple of years before the I had to replace the clutch when the TCM went out. Anyways, thanks for the response. All your focus info is spot on, and very helpful.

Question, so if I use a 2012-2014 transmission in a 2017, will I need the 2017 tcm or the 2014
@BigBensCarsAndCycles25 күн бұрын
@@paisleyperformance3846 you'll want the 2014 calibration. Just keep the tcm on that came from the junkyard on it

Ben ,I have a quiestion ,what is the correct maf sensor reading on a Ford Fiesta?, online it says 2-7 g/s at idle and 15-25 at 2500 rpms for any vehicle.

2016 focus with a 2014 trans, using the tcm from the 2016 with the speed sensors shims from the old 2016 trans as well. car will drive and shift but shifts extremely hard into every gear. code p073f if you punch it from a dead stop it’ll go until about 5k rpm and fall on its face and slowly find 2nd gear and keep going. code has only popped up one time. any clues?
@BigBensCarsAndCycles3 ай бұрын
@adampropps1730 the shims are meant to be an ID for the calibration needed, not swapped. Sounds like a bad 1st gear syncronizer unfortunately. If that's the only code and if you hear grinding. Otherwise you can check the video p073f after clutch job diagnosis

You should honestly spend some money on a focus or any car that matter from copart or something and try to revive it and then flip it. You can use that and make some new videos, so you would make money on the car and video. ❤

Nice idea! I'm over the limit on how many cars I'm allowed to sell without a license (I kept trading motorcycles this year) so it'll have to be later next year unfortunately! But I'm getting a focus soon! I'll make some videos on that. Possibly radiator replacement
