Wondering if you should get an alarm for your Lectric XP (or other e-bike)? When I heard the 60% of bicycles (including electric bikes) get stolen from the owner's home, I decided that I better look into some extra security for my Lectric XP Step-thru and be ready for when my BlackBird arrives in a few weeks.

On Prime-Day 2020, the Wsdcam Bike alarm TWO-PACK went on sale for less than $25! I wasn't sure how good such an affordable bike alarm would be, but as you will see in this unboxing and installation review video, it's a pretty awesome product for the price. The added piece of mind is worth every penny. Even at full price (at $30.99) I wouldn't hesitate at getting it. This bike alarm has 7 levels of sensitivity, 3 volume levels, is waterproof against rain, and has a 60+ foot range. You can also pair up to 8 remotes!
The devices also come with EVERYTHING you need to quickly install it and get it running within a few minutes. It even comes with a small screwdriver to replace the 3 AAA batteries (INCLUDED) in the future.
This Bike Alarm will NOT prevent determined thieves from being able to steal your precious ebike, but it will attract a lot of attention with it's 113dB siren to help you know when it's happening.

Best video by far on demonstrating the Wsdcam bike alarm. Very informative, easy to follow instruction on use and settings. I duplicated all of your instructions from your video and it does exactly as demonstrated. Haven't installed or used it yet by I think I'm going to love having this alarm and the piece of mind it will give me. We camp in our motorhome around the country, staying in various state parks, so now I can sleep better at night knowing that this extremely loud sound will wake us up if someone is attempting to steal our E-bikes. Thanks, for taking your time to make this great video. Keep 'em coming!

2 YEARS--BATTERY LIFE AND ANY ISSUES: I've been using two of these since about Dec2019. Both work fine/no probs. I have sensitivity set such that it takes more than a soft bump on the bikes to give the warning beep, but strong wind will result in an occasional warning beep. Both are oriented with the speaker horn facing down to help protect from rain. On one bike the alarm unit is under the seat and on the 2nd bike it's under the rear carrier (has some top protection). Both alarm units have been through some very strong thunderstorms and worked without having to dry them out. BATTERY LIFE (3xAAA): ~8 months Energizer Maximum ALKALINE cells ~9 months Energizer Ultimate LITHIUM cells I really wanted the more expensive lithium cells to last a lot longer because I want to reduce the chance that an alkaline cell(s) will leak and damage one of the main modules yet keep average cost/hour the same or better. Lithium cells cost about ~2X alkaline cells. So, I'm concluding using lithium cells is not worth it, even though they don't seem to leak. So, I'll continue to use Alkaline cells as the most cost effective solution. I did know that the Ultimate Lithium cells are not optimum when powering low-current circuits, so I was somewhat expecting this result. In comparison tests, they perform much better in high-power devices which this alarm is not. Also, FYI, the alarm unit fails when the 3xAAA cells discharge to about 1.1V per cell (3.3V total) and the cells need to be replaced. Alkaline cells also seem to give you more warning (days) than the lithium cells between the time you start getting the "battery low" beep response and the time it stops responding to the remote. I haven't had to replace the batteries in either of the handheld remote units since I first used them over 2 years ago. One remote is used daily, the other about once per week. Note: I MAY try retrofitting a RECHARGEABLE Li-ion cell and see if that works alright. If I do that, I'll try to get back to you on how it does.

I am loving the peace of mind that I am getting with having the alarm on the Lectric XP and very glad I got a 2-pack so I can put one on the Blackbird as soon as it arrives.I saw that Bolton has my Blackbird shipment in his warehouse on his last video and can't wait for it to get processed and shipped out! It looks so much better than the prototype he showed in the original videos I really like how it looks now (I think its the front fender improvement).

I've used another one from ebay (probably the same as this one) for the last year and a half. They do work great! Super loud (depending on what way you mount it). IT actually stopped a crackhead that jumped on my ebike one night. Scared the shit outta him lol I just got this one in the mail today. Seems a bit louder than my other one. 👍👍 This paired with a disc lock and your bike isn't going anywhere.

Yup! Bike alarm + Kryptonite New York Lock Fahgettaboutit + Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Chain 1415 + removing bike seat = full protection even in NYC or London. Only way to get any real protection if you have a high value bike / ebike and want to use it as a general vehicle for shopping and stuff like that.

i would advise against using disc locks on a bicycle that can be lifted up, they are mainly used for motorcycles. I'm gonna do a combination of the alarm, Kryptonite to lock the frame to a fixed point, 3 kryptonite chains for each wheel and the frame , and a bike cover that locks around the wheels so they can't even see what it is until further inspection. also will be removing the battery and seat as my bike is very difficult to pedal without any pedal assist 😄

@@kushpaladin well these e-bikes usually way about 65 lb. You put one of those disc locks on the back brake And you have The alarm on from this video. How many thieves do you know that want to carry a 65 lb bike with alarms going off crazy 🤣 I'm a 300 lb man and I'm very physically strong and believe it or not pretty fit.. I tried carrying this bike they're very awkward to carry.. they will be picking the bike up running then having to stop around everybody I don't think they going to get very far.. Come on man those alarms are LOUD two of them would be going off at the same time!! disc brake alarm and the one on this video. I'm sure anyone who buys the disc brake alarm and the alarm that's on this video they have every intention of also having a kryptonite lock that locks both wheels. Preferably locked to something.. I have The same alarm that he has here. Me and my wife tested them out. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW FREAKING LOUD THEY ARE THERE'S NO WAY EVEN IF A DUDE TRIED STEALING THESE BIKES LET'S SAY YOU'RE AT THE GROCERY STORE EVEN WITHOUT THE DISK LOCK THAT THEY'RE GOING TO DRIVE AROUND WITH THAT LOUD NOISE THEY'RE GOING TO RUN AND TRUST ME. When thieves hear that noise they know someone's going to call the police they're taking off. As a matter of fact on one video there was a guy on KZbin saying this lock saved his bike. A guy actually came into an apartment building in the hallway 1:30 a.m. nobody was around.. He started to ANGLE GRIND THE LOCK. The alarm went off the guy stopped immediately and left the hallway took off. Trust me man these things are so loud. MY SETUP!! Have 3 alarms!!! Can never have enough.. Put the disc lock on the back wheel and on the front wheel!! And the alarm on this video. The best setup? Disc brake alarm on the front wheel, CRYSTAL ALARM I LOCK OR CHAIN LOCK THAT ALSO HAS 130 DB ALARM ON THE BACK WHEEL PREFERABLY ATTACHED TO SOMETHING!! And then the alarm that's on this video. THAT IS WAY TOO MANY ALARMS TO TRY TO STOP CUT THEM OFF ETC... IT WOULD BE SO LOUD AND PIERCING THERE IS NO WAY THE DUDE IS GOING TO EVEN TAKE THE BIKE OR TRY ANYTHING!! I know that's overkill but a small price to pay for your $1,000 or more!! ;) ALSO THERE'S ANOTHER SOLUTION!!! GPS ON TOP OF THAT!!! Buy yourself a GPS locating unit hide it on the bike. So if all those alarms failed the guy still got away.. You're tracking the dude calling the police!! I mean I don't know what else you can do that's the best solutions.

I like how you attached it in a spot that doesn't expose the zip ties to view or access. When I first saw this on amazon I saw how they attached with zip ties that seems like an obvious weak point. I use and have to remove zip ties often and never have a knife. I easily melt them off with my lighter tho and using that I doubt it would even set off the alarm till it was too late. But your placement solves that .

Great video.. I'm still a little confused, You made clear how to get into set up mode Thanks! what I'm still a little confused about is the sensitivity setting. I cycle through the different tones, I realize that they are different in volume as well as pitch. If I store my alarm on the lowest volume yet seems to be the highest pitch my sensitivity seems to be less or in other words it takes more shake to set off the alarm. If I set store the loudest of the settings it seems to be more sensitive to movement. Thanks.

@exgenica
@exgenica 2 жыл бұрын
Couple of good things to know... 1) Batteries can be removed and replaced without losing any of your preferred settings (like sensitivity). That's not true of some of the other bike alarms. 2) You can setup one remote to control two different alarm units. That way, you don't have to carry two remotes around all the time, or have to always double check you've taken the "right" remote for the bike you're riding. However, if you do set things to control both alarm units with one remote, and IF you store both bikes within remote range of each other, then when you take one bike to ride, because you're still in remote range of both bikes, you can't turn on the alarm of the other bike without turning on the alarm of the bike you're riding...which means you'll set off the alarm on the bike you're riding. My "solution" was to program the second remote to control only the other bike's alarm unit (default setting), and keep that remote in the house to turn on the other bike's alarm before I ride off on the other bike...then put it's remote back in the house. It's not perfect, but it does let me carry around only the one remote and not have to worry about making sure I've ridden off with the "right" remote for the bike I'm riding. It's personal preference. Keep the remotes totally separate and always have to double check you've taken the right remote every time you ride one of your bikes, or control both alarms with the remote you always have with you.

That's a lot of work I guess.. Why not just mark each alarm with masking tape put The letter of the bike it belongs to. But these alarms are fantastic I just put one on me and my wife's bike holy crap they're allowed in so sensitive they're awesome..
@exgenica
@exgenica 2 жыл бұрын
@@thefix-itguyreviewer8151 Of course it's personal preference...but since changing to the 1 remote for 2 alarms programming I have not even once had a problem by having the "wrong" remote with me and been unable to enable the alarm. For me, that makes things easier...not harder (and it also helps increase the security on my bike). I had months of experience using the "masking tape" method in the beginning because I didn't realize we could program one remote to work with two different alarms (one for each bike). Back then, every now and then I STILL got the remotes mixed up and took the wrong remote with me and therefore was unable to turn on the alarm on my bike when I got to the store. It also meant my girlfriend couldn't take the right remote paired with her bike because I had her remote with me. This fixed that issue.

How set second alarm on one remote??
@ffrreeddyy123456
@ffrreeddyy123456 Жыл бұрын
The way this is worded makes no sense to me when you say both bikes instead of two bikes and then say “of each other” after remote range. Remote range is all you’re talking about. But isn’t even the important part to mention I don’t think. The it should go something like, if you store two bikes close to each other and have one remote to work both alarms then you can’t set the alarm for the bike you leave behind while keeping the one you’re going to ride unlocked, so you have to put your bike that you’re using far enough away to lock the bike you’re leaving behind. But it’s not easy to explain so the way you worded it isn’t bad.
@ffrreeddyy123456
@ffrreeddyy123456 Жыл бұрын
Your solution is also confusing, you say you you’re using the remote normally to solve it but in a wordy way. And implying that you keep one remote paired to both while one is paired to only one like normal. (Just have two freaking remotes!) and then you say you keep it in the house to arm the other bike and then ride off on the other bike…. Bro stick with one bike or another. Also you said you then took it back inside after not explaining going outside!! You said you had it inside already!! Do you English? By this point I’m just tired of trying to read your words. Not a big deal for most but when your parents literally talk like this all the time and you have to be polite and act like it’s not that hard to know what someone is thinking and then talk to them like they just said a coherent sentence gets really old after decades. So sorry to rant haha

I think you may have a defective unit. Seems like the emergency button is being pressed internally. The button may be stuck. You could try opening up the case and checking the buttons alignment. @@EbikeProducts will you be leaving your eBike locked to a bike rack in a garage, or just inside your office where you work? In your case, I don’t think it’s overkill because you have to secure your eBike from theft. My black bike cover has a hole near the bottom do you can put a cable through the rim. I saw all these products while watching reviews on the LECTRIC XP. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Keep those awesome reviews coming. I haven’t been brave enough to do any reviews, and my ST is pretty tricked out with accessories. Well, I think so anyway, with my bright lights, spoke reflectors, reflective rim tape, CLEARON BLUETOOTH SPEAKER, My alarm sound cycled through all the different sounds if it’s triggered. But I never leave it unattended by I’ve heard of people leaving the garage door up just to run in the house quickly, just for the eBike to be stolen just the quick. Be sure to register your eBike online at BIKEINDEX.COM in the eBike database just in case it’s stollen, and add it to your insurance.

Thanks, for this informative video. Do you need to cut the zip ties, each time you need to change batteries? I would like to ask for advise, is a lighter folding lock combined with this alarm better than chosing a higher grade, but heavy U lock without the alarm?
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, unfortunately you do need to cut the zip ties. That's a great question about the alarmed lock that is lighter than a heavier U lock. I honestly would have to say that the cost of the alarm is so inexpensive, I would go with the best heavy duty lock possible and get the alarm too. Sorry, I know its not the options you gave as an answer, but the alarm is super helpful in surprising a would be thief to stop trying, but a easy to conquer lock is almost like a target for thieves to pick your bike to steal. I live in a relatively low crime area and never leave my bike alone for very long so I have a lot less to worry about where the alarm and folding lock are very adequate. If I lived in an area where crime is high, I would probably become "Captain Overkill" and get an expensive security setup like getting ALL of the following: 1) TWO Kryptonite Chains (supposedly these chains take a lot longer to cut with a angle saw) and would be used for front and back wheel locking ( amzn.to/2SEjOy6 ) 2) Disk brake lock alarm ( amzn.to/2SEktj4 ) 3) Abus folding lock ( amzn.to/3uAu7R5 ) 4) Apple Airtag to track my bike in case it still gets stolen ( amzn.to/3p3UPA6 ) The amount of visible security alone would hopefully make it one a thief would want to not want to deal with. The added weight would be a LOT to the ebike, but if I were to leave the bike alone for more than a few hours in a high crime area, this is the only way I would do it. I would also be sure to register the stuff you bought with the lock companies to be able to get some compensation back if your ebike is stolen. It really Sucks that we have to spend so much on making sure we feel comfortable leaving our ebikes alone. I hear that the #1 reason people who have ebikes that are able to ride them do work don't do it is because they don't feel safe leaving the bike alone. I am lucky to where I can bring my ebike into the building I work at and the bike rack is inside the building and all my coworkers would keep an eye on it for me, but that is an extremely rare thing to have. Unfortunately, if a skilled thief wants your bike, they will most likely be able to get it. Kind of like cars thefts.

There's a way to open zip ties without cutting them. Just search KZbin. It basically involves sticking something between the toothy sides. Technically a thief can also remove it the same way but the loudness of the alarm would've startled them and hopefully enough that they just quickly walk away.

I bought one of these and a Favoto disk lock with alarm. Between my scooters built in handlebar lock, the disk lock/alarm and the Wsdcam alarm my bike has effectively two locks and two alarms. I plan to buy a Kryptonite chain with lock and alarm giving me 3 locks and 3 alarms plus add a GPS. The Wsdcam alarm is Loud. With both the Wasdcam alarm and the Favoto disk lock going off together they are Very Loud and nerve racking. After the alarm stops after 30 seconds it will go off again for another 30 seconds and so on as long as the bike continues to move. I'm mounting inside the headlight casing so they have to break it to get to the alarm. With you mounting it under the bike rack, I'm afraid someone will just cut the cable ties and chuck it far away or into a bucket of water which would kill it instantly. You may wanna re-think your mounting place.

I got one with a kit I bought from NB power, and I can’t get the damn thing to work….this alarm makes a loud sound….but it also magnet locks you’re rear tire….I only have a cable lock right now, and have to wait till I get paid for a U-Lock….it’s a $2500 DYI stealth bomber E-Bike, and the bike attracts too much attention. It has a key ignition to power it on….but those can easily be hot wired, once you have a proper Allen wrench to remove the side cover. It can still be pedaled off without power….so the magnet wheel lock is something needed….with the feature, a bike thief will have to pick the bike up, and drag it….and if they don’t have a truck to put it in they will not get far…it also weighs 102 pounds. If you have a apple phone you can get a small GPS tracking chip…..and I will be pressing charges if they get caught….they can add grand theft to they’re rap sheet….I hate bike thieves! They bring saw saws, battery operated angle grinders, and have been known to butcher a bike….just to steal it.

@@RPMac the thinking is that because this only gives a little warning at first (goes short warning, louder warning, then full alarm), the thief would hear the warning and could smash the alarm. hiding it means he either leaves, or fumbles more to find it causing the full alarm to eventually go off.

My go to is the Abus Alarmbox. I'm not too comfortable with plastic zip ties. Way to easy to cut off. The Abus uses steel zip ties which will be harder to cut. You also have the option of bolting the Alarmbox's bracket to your frame or cargo rack for even better protection. You will have to drill holes for it if you go with this option. It uses a key to lock the Alarmbox and its bracket together as one unit. The key also turns the alarm off. It is pricey at $80 but I'd rather pay the extra $55 from a well know company known for bike security. Cool video though!

Sad part is replacing the batteries. Small Phillips screw underneath, then prying the cheap plastic shell apart every time. The case does not come apart easily. Should have a rechargeable battery inside to be recharged from an AC adapter or external power pack. Have a recumbent trike and cats, dogs, and people like to pester it. As such the batteries are going to wear down. Replacing the batteries is going to break down the case after a while, and as such means replacing cause it is a cheaply made product. Past that it is a good alarm. Cats are learning to stay off it.

All the things you mentioned are dead on. It would've been nice to be able to set the length of the alarm sound to more than the 15-25 seconds. I think mine goes to just around 30 seconds.
