As Tesla Y Performance & F-150 Platinum owner , I can tell my personal experience. Tesla is 50k+ mile/80k km I have never been to workshop or Gas ⛽️ station, so far no issue after 3.5 year. Tesla superchargers are awesome. , I have many time to Texas & NYC from Virginia. Mostly 90% my car is charged at home. It cost $10 at home to fully charge. Every morning I have full tank of electricity. F-150 has 3 recalls , 1 starter motor replacement @ 45k mile. In Tech it’s no where close to Tesla. Tesla Software & IPhone app is super, never had any issue, always work with phone. , I haven’t carried any key 🔑 from 3.5 year, my mobile is my key. I can track my son from my mobile even in Pakistan. July I was in China 🇨🇳 & every 2 wheeler is Ev there , Pakistan should move to 2 where on Evs, Should ban petrol 2 wheeler as 50% petroleum import bill is motorcycles & #1 reason for pollution. At end cars has thermal management system but motorcycle batters don’t have that so there is little chance of fire 🔥 specially for cheep batteries.

The discussion lacks the context of the solar adoption as well as subsequent/associated electrification. Government program limitation and fuel import constraints as well as the question of forex priorities and strategies all need to be tackled in conjunction with a discussion on EVs

In the last podcast, you invited Ali Khizar Sb he said the bill of petrol import is greater than the bill of cars imported. By this logic, we should all go with electric vehicles. EV is also much better for our atmosphere, but that's what i think

This man is a very very wise man and I enjoyed all the wisdom about pro and cons on EVs and commbustion engine vehicles. He is absolutely right not to change to EV for the next 5-10 years. Even in USA many are switching back to combustion engine vehicles! ❤❤

He is speaking in a general context. He is 100% right, EV cars have no future. I live in US people here are switching to combustion engines, I second him. However, if you stick to Pakistan's perspective only, yes, for now EVs are not in the market as compared to the world but a few years down the line, we will be seeing people switching to EVs.

What this guest is saying UNPOPULAR but Truth, without battery infrastructure and local production, EVs can't succeed in Pakistan as it would be too much expensive as Compare to Gasoline, and at one time, Govt will stop giving incentives on EVs as they also can't afford a mass adoption of EVs funded by tax rebates. For now, EVs are just "Ameeron ka khilona", as rightly said by a Guest.

EV is failing in the country because the EV infrastructure is not set-up and not supprted by the government. 1. There is no road for any car 2. There are lack of proper lanes to support EV car auto drive system 3. There are inadequate charging stations 4. Electricity is very expensive 5. Lack of traffic rules and regulations enforcement. 6. Lack of workshop and spare parts to maintain such cars Etc.

The problem is not with EVs the problem is with mindset in Pakistan as can be seen with this guest. We want rickety and old 50s 60s tech to continue because it is simple and we can repair it but it is highly inefficient and polluting. We also have a huge oil import bill. We should start replacing two and 3 wheelers with EV equivalents and then start with cheap 4 wheelers. Besides the battery and wiring EVs are a lot simpler and far more efficient than IC cars.

Pakistan is not in the right climate for EV adoption. A lot of investment is required in charging infrastructure as well as develop local after sales service. The energy mix matters a lot as well. Less benefits will be realized if fossil fuel power plants are being used to generate additional electricity. We can see how much smog is being generated by the existing energy mix. Electricity is also very expensive in Pakistan so a numbers comparison will have to be made between EV charging cost and comparable ICE fuel cost. I will give the example of British Columbia province in Canada. Electricity @ C$0.11 per kWh (Rs 22) whereas in Pakistan electricity is around C$0.33 per kWh (Rs 70) and with circular debt crisis it's expected to go up. In BC province the electricity is almost entirely hydroelectric whereas in Pakistan it's a mix of hydro, furnace oil, natural gas and coal. Big difference in realized benefits as well. In regular day-to-day driving (office, drives around town, etc.) costs under C$50 per month whereas an HEV (regular hybrid/mild hybrid) uses around C$150-C$250 depending on sedan vs crossover/suv. PHEVs are mostly under C$100 because most of them drive 60-80km on EV only mode which is 90%+ of city driving. A regular gasoline engine car/suv/crossover will consume anywhere from C$200-C$500 of fuel per month depending on a small car vs V6 crossover/suv. If we assume that an EV costs C$50 to run in Canada per month then equivalent electricity cost in Pakistan would be C$150 which brings it very close to what a small engined gasoline car would cost (also to remember that most smaller sedans also have bigger engines than equivalent models in Pak). You also get rebates (fancier name for govt. subsidy) on EVs in Canada ranging between C$5,000-C$10,000 to encourage adoption. In Pakistan there is no such rebate. Based on all I have shared, I believe Pakistan is not a suitable model for EVs at the moment or at least not until some of the points I mentioned have been addressed. Might work for some people who are able to manage storing solar energy and then using it at night to charge their EVs might result in much better results but that also means installing a much bigger solar system plus bigger batteries and then charging EVs with those batteries. Probably only for the upper middle class and upwards due to high upfront capital requirement.
