Great video. I think people often say such things because they are tricked into old internet forums that claim these things and people spread it all over the years. But basically one can play anything with any piece of gear.

That kind of thinking comes almost exclusively from bedroom player snobs who haven't actually experienced different kinds of gear. So they see metallica playing guitars with EMGs and say that's all they're good for. There is a reason you see different gear in different genres, but ultimately an instrument is a tool and doesn't dictate what you play on it.

EMG's have a very "full range" sound. if you don't like how far the bass or treble extends you can always use EQ or hipass/ lo pass filters to sculpt the sound.

EMG's make a huge ranch of active & passive pickups, very good tones & build quality, i think you prove EMG's can be used in all genres of music...luv the tone of the McGrath's Precision & T-Bird pickups together.....i luv there passive pickups with magnetic poles pieces that show...well demo'd guys...👍🎸

Simple answer, no, I learnt that from Chris Bauermeister from the band Jawbreaker as he had a very straight forward P bass tone early in the band and then 24 Hour Revenge Therapy came out and since then his live and studio tone became this very bright and clear tone, so much that it cuts on pretty much any mix and sounds MASSIVE which helped on a 3 piece band where sometimes the sound feels sort of "empty", and the only thing he changed through that time aside from the high mass bridge was that he started using EMGs on his P bass, just listen to the Live 96 version of Parabola like holy shit that bass sounds MASSIVE So, if you want a bass that sounds crisp, clear, compressed (so you may not even need a compressor depeding on your playstyle) and more importantly, DEAD SILENT then you simply can't go wrong with EMGs, I avoided them for a long while until I tried them myself and it clicked me why so many people love them

In the late seventies and early eighties EMG and DiMarzio were the first ones to push forward basssound with their custom pickups!!! EMGs are so versatile and open sounding! I have a Spector NS5 double P and a NS 2 JJ fretless! I don`t need the active EQs! Just using the blend-pot gives enormous possibilities to create a suitable sound for every kind of music!!!

They can do plenty, although eq helps. Same with any pickup really. But, they're not for everyone.
