I got my cat when I was younger and naive - my family was also not pet savvy - and I used to diffuse "dangerous" essential oils often. Never had a problem, my cat is now 16 years old and healthy. Of course, it's better not to risk it but I think a lot of this information makes us more fearful than we need to be. You're a good cat Mom and it's lucky to have you.

Thank you, the oils information. Eucalyptus and spearmint are my favorite diffuser oils, creams pool spray Etc. For Christmas I had got to set, but something came up and I started looking and found your video and I thank you so much I will never use these products and I will send them to someone who doesn't have pets. Thank you so much you probably saved the lives of my very best husband and two children as I have three cats that are family and my life. I can never tell you how much I appreciate your video because internet didn't tell me enough and still left me with questions but your video cleared all that up.

Yeah they are really expensive. If used with care they can go a long way though. The reason they're so expensive is not that you're being ripped off (which you might be price check) it just takes a ridiculous amount of the plant to make a tiny bottle of oil. Like if you saw the amount of mint used to make a small bottle you'd not be surprised at all that they can be 10-20 dollars.

My mom just gave me an essential oil diffuser for my birthday, glad I watched this before using it! Definitely gonna keep in in my bathroom for baths and whatnot (where my cats are not allowed)

I had cats for 38 years. Some of the older ones used to get flystrike in warm weather. This is very dangerous and will kill the animal if not dealt with. I used to remove as many of the eggs as possible with a flea comb, the clusters of eggs look like cottage cheese and the flies try to lay them under the fur. I would then apply a spot-on flea treatment which the vets said would kill the maggots when they reach the skin. Then I would make "lavender water" by putting three or four drops of lavender oil in half a litre of water and shaking the mixture. I put this in a spray bottle and squirted perhaps half a teaspoonful into the palm of my hand then spread it over my hands and rubbed it into my cats fur, avoiding the face. I would use more if needed, depending on the size of the cat. Flies don't like the smell of lavender and I found this an effective deterrent. One application was usually enough for several days or a few weeks but I would check my cats carefully every day. I never knew whether the lavender in this low concentration was toxic to my cats but it seemed the lesser of two evils. It appears that some cats lose their natural resistance to flystrike when they get old and I had to do something. I didn't notice adverse reactions and all the cats I used lavender water with lived for at least another two years. However perhaps there is a safer alternative to lavender.

Awesome information. Thank you. I make crystal potpourri and sell it in a local flea market. It never occurred to me to isolate my cat away in a fragrance free environment while I am making my product. Now my furgirl can go into the bedroom while I work with my oils. Though I do use more fragrance oils which are chemical based, I do use some essential oils. Your info was an eye opener.

If you have a diffuser and can’t use it because you can’t use essential oils anymore .. there is another really refreshing way to use it and I think is safer than essential oils because it’s not concentrated.. and that is using rose water in your diffuser, or any kind of herbal tea like chamomile or mint (use it cold). I used to use rose water and oregano water in my diffuser ( but don’t use the diffuser all the time you don’t want to inhale a lot of water particles that can cause you to cough in my experience)

Any essential oil that contains a natural terpene called limonene should be on toxic list. Cedarwood oil is safe to use topically on cats and dogs as a flea and tick repellent. Cassia is marketed in grocery stores as cinnamon. It's in the same family as cinnamon, but true cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka and somewhat rare.

You have a kitty named puppy which is very cute. I adopted a shelter dog which I believed was a 10 month old PRIMARILY Boxer mix. I wanted to call him Kitty but since he was already nearly a year old, so I thought, it seemed like it wouldn't be nice to do to him. Shoulda went for it. Dexter was really only about 6 months old said the vet and upon reading the fine print in his papers he was Boxer x Bull Mastiff x Pit Bull. He wound up weighing in at about 240 pounds and it was all muscle. The dog looked like he was a juicing gym rat. Could you imagine me going "here kitty kitty kitty " and that mega beast comes galloping up? He loved kitties, but they were flat terrified of him which really broke his heart. The only critters he had issues with, and I'm here to tell you they were bone deep jihad grade issues, were wild turkeys! Huh? Never could figure that one out. I still miss you you great big poodle head. See you one the rainbow bridge soon enough.

I just bought reed diffuser with lavender and jasmine scent, when I opened the tube in order to tuck the bamboo stick in, and move the reed tube from floor to a higher place, my cat come to the floor where I placed the tube and she goin crazy like a cat just sniffing some catnip (in fact catnip itself doesn't do effects on her tho). The my hand, which I used to touch the tube and sticks when I opened it, got some scent on my palm hand, then when I touch my cat's head, she constantly sniff it, and getting crazy with it that she almost bite my hand, and she rolling around on the floor, again, like the same effects when a cat meet catnip, I wonder would it he dangerous to my cat?? Since I got some scent residue on my hand and it has contacted with my cat's hair, she groomed it.. Will she be okay? Is it a normal behavior from a cat with a scent of lavender and jasmin altogether?

your very knowledgeable and am going to pass this video on to other people who have cats...buttt...the candles in the background, are they natural candles??? cause regular candles are uber toxic....people have got to look at what goes into them and how they're made...they'll never buy them again no matter how they smell...the very best and healthiest candles to buy are 100% pure beeswax...very healthy, but you have to burn them for at least 3 hours for the benefits..and they're safe for pets (including cats)... you have to make sure tho' that they're 100% pure cause some state that they are but they're not...God Bless

I don’t think it works that way. Just because essential oils are bad for cats, doesn’t mean that cats are initially turned off by the scent of them. By doing this you could unintentionally harm your cat. They have a sour green apple spray at pet stores that is safe and helps to keep cats away from areas that you don’t want them near.

Thank you. I'm glad I watched this because it was on my mind after I had used Peppermint oil.. I diluted it and shook the bottle and sprayed it on my bed about 30 mins later o noticed my cat was off her bed and on my bed sleeping really comfortably. I then thought of googleing to see if Cats like the smell of peppermint and they do because it's an ingredient of catnip. Could someone please tell me if it's safe for me to spray this on my bed or is that a big no no because of what Cat Lady said about getting it on the skin and then the cat grooming itself. (But what about once the bed sheet are dry and just smell of the peppermint?) I'll stop using it right away and throw it out if I shouldn't be using (again I only use it in a spray bottle on my bed and on nothing else)

Most likely. Bath and body works candles as well as many other candles are sooooo strong smelling and cats have a higher sense of smell than humans so it can irritate their lungs. Also those candles can contain essential oils that may harm cats. Definitely research before getting any scented candle imo

The biggest concern would be a lit/melted candle being knocked over and getting on your kitty that way.. besides that, any concern of toxicity would mostly depend on your cats sensitivity to fragrance/oils in it (and how close they get) 😽
