Prices were heavily inflated in 2020 from Covid, and now things have come down overall. Still overall videogame pricing is still up from 4-5 years ago :/
@GeorgiaRidgerunner
@GeorgiaRidgerunner 2 ай бұрын
4-5 years ago was when certain gaming channels were creating a buzz around certain games and then selling theyre extra copies off online for an imflated price and at that same time those dirty f.....s were pushing those garbage consoles from china acting like they were the greatest thing ever made my best advice is dont buy something a youtube gamer is pushing sure they say they arent compensated for a good endorsement but they are theyre worthless schills sure prices have come down a bit but it wont last long schills will certainly attempt to create another buzz as for atari prices risimg well the sellers are asking higher prices but they wont get it most of the atari library is garbage and not mention the ataris greatest games have repackaged and sold on consoles so many times that theyre worthless and people know it

It’s only going to go up since they aren’t made anymore,
@GeorgiaRidgerunner
@GeorgiaRidgerunner 2 ай бұрын
@@shivasthong4924 nope you have to remember supply and demand right now the supply is more than the demand also not made anymore well thats not entirely true the smb series keepd getting re released everytime nintendo releases a new console the legend of zelda has a few re releases theres been a few third party titles re released there by increasing the supply for a limited demand in other words people like you will try to artificially inflate prices to line your own pockets but you will ultimately fail again because we live in the age of the smart consumer
@MuggsyTM
@MuggsyTM 2 ай бұрын
@@GeorgiaRidgerunner The supply is not greater than the demand. Many people don't care about newer systems or re-releases, they want to play the games on the consoles they grew up on. Also nothing was said outside of an opinionated observation that they think prices are going to go up because they aren't made anymore. I have no idea where you decided they were somehow trying to line their pockets or anything like that because they said nothing about any of that. Chill out and don't jump to conclusions.

I find the median price to be much more useful than average in doing these comparisons. For example if every atari game went down in value a full dollar, but the 10 most expensive games all doubled in price, the average would still go up even though that doesn't represent the condition of the market.
@GamingTheSystems1
@GamingTheSystems1 2 ай бұрын
Average works just fine and is exactly how I wanted to measure it. Besides, if I chose to do median, people would complain that I didn't use average.
@unclerukmer
@unclerukmer 2 ай бұрын
I agree with this because typically the collecting bottleneck comes in when you start getting towards rare or popular games. Even if the overall market is going down, those games show no sign of ever doing down. It's why I quit collecting. Not saying the video should have gone with median over mean, but perhaps both perspectives would be useful to people, depending on where they are with collecting.

Nice video. For future ones like this it'd be nice if the difference was presented as percentage change as opposed to just a numerical dollar amount. That would make it easier to extrapolate to other game prices that don't directly correspond to the given prices.

Yeah I've had the same thought process. The prices aren't necessarily going up anymore, aside from the occasional spike of interest for a week or two before dying out again. What truly happened was that during COVID, prices shot up through that entire period, and since COVID lasted months if not years till really ending around early 2022, those prices stayed inflated long enough to stick around afterwards. While the market is flat, or at a stand-still, it's after the biggest rise in said market and that means it's not going down but just sitting at these prices years after the reason they went up is over.

Here in Europe, I see a split: what are perceived to be "unique" collectors' items (even if it's just a complete-in-box version of a common game), vs. what are perceived to be "fungible" cartridges. I assume that dimorphism is going to continue to evolve.

For sure the rise of ODEs for disc based systems I think definitely have helped keep prices of those systems at a same level, these devices definitely have come a long way wince 5 or 6 years ago I myself am highly interested in making my PS1, Saturn, Dreamcast and the like ODE equipped systems, I love the idea of having 100s of games ready to play on OG hardware Good video awkward covid ridden video game nerd type guy 👍🏻

I took a quick review of the top valued Nintendo 64 loose carts/items and it seems that the Nintendo 64 Test cartridge and the Turok 2 Seeds of Evil NFR carts were big contributors to the crater you mentioned between March 2022 to July 2023.

Most of these price drops can be put down to a Covid rally followed by a correction. Also, the top 5-10% of a console library would be more interesting as these are the games collectors/investors/speculators are most interested in.

Interesting to see and people certainly seem to exaggerate "everything going up". I think a more valuable analysis would look at the prices of the 20 or so most popular games for a system. I think a lot of the change in price (in either direction) could be muted by the large number of games most people won't care about keeping a low static price. The main thing that doesn't pass the smell test with this data is NES games being more expensive than SNES games! Conventional wisdom, sales figures, and what I've personally seen would suggest that the SNES games most people want are quite a hit pricier than the NES games people want. But maybe there's a lot of rare NES games affecting that number that I'm not as familiar with.

Boxed nes stuff used to go for a lot but 2600 and 7800 is getting interest because of the 2600+. I think more people are choosing quality rather than getting stacks of $10 games just because it has a box.

We absolutely will see drastic deflation after 2024 because we are likely in a hidden statistical recession now and the numbers (unemployment, housing inventory, etc) are manipulated. After 2024 there will be no hiding the state of our economy and prices will begin to fall. Look back to 2006-2009 to see what to expect.

this is how i view the video game market first off we dont have production numbers for the majority of games made but we have plenty of sellers out there claimimg oh this is rare game then we have the youtube gaming channels out there creating a buzz around certain games when they want to offload there extra copies remember a few years back when the bastards created a buzz aroumd smb3 and the price soared to 50 dollars smb 3 is one of the most common nes games it should never have gone over 20 bucks because its so common today it struggles to reach 15 dollars at ebay auction and thats really still to much for it remember these games werent manufactured to be collected they were made to sell and they were made in enough quantity that literally thousands of retail stores could have multiple copies to sell another thing is the most desirable games are the games that are most common people loved them back them so they were manufactured to meet the demand the most expensive nes game is stadium events its honestly a terrible game but its said to be the rarest nes game so its the most expensive even though its a terrible game as for price fluctuations in the market the fluctuations are effected by many things like youtubers creating a buzz certain nostalgic consoles being released the state of the economy etc. but the youtube gaming channels have done the most damage by schilling for chinese manufacturers and creating those buzzes around games just to increase there own profits theyve in effect created a situation where most of the viewers have walked away from them because they bought a junk chinese product that they promoted as a great product then theyve got the viewers that that no matter how many times the tuber lies to them they keep coming back for more ill close this comment by saying the video game market is unregulated and is full of liars scammers and thieves

price charting i can tell you is way off on there averages you cant name an average price when each sell is for a different title some titles are more desirable than others so the more desirable title sells for more money and in turn inflates the overall price also condition plays a big part in the sell price if you want actual sell prices just check ebays completed items then youll get actual sell prices not some goofy over all average that way off
