Are these Hamilton Dune watches from Arrakis worth it?

I love Hamilton watches and I love the Dune movies but there is no way I’m paying that kind of money for these. They look great and are definitely attention grabbing but for that price there are far better Hamilton pieces to purchase. The price for the Dune license must have been enormous.

Yea, I'm particularly surprised after the Indiana Jones watch. People were all over that watch for being a little bit expensive for the specs. Dune is awesome, and these watches are really cool, but this is a whole 'nother level!

I actually just ordered the more expensive one. And i'm not even a fan of dune. The problem is that i immediately fell in love with the design. I know that it is a very stupid deal and that these watches are way overprived, but for me the look is just so special that it's worth it for me. I hope the quartz movement is going to last for a long time 🙄

If it makes you happy, nothing else matters. I love the design myself and think it’s awesome. The sapphire glass and PVD steel are great touches too. I don’t think you could get that digital display without a quartz movement anyways.

@@FranklyCollecting Yes. I would have prefered a matte ceramic or a carbon fibre case though, instead of the steel...to justify the price and for not being afraid of the pvd coating coming off after a while

Hey so, guys who bought these I'm just wondering, what other watches do you own? I guess money is just absolutely no object? What are your hobbies? Are you married? I'm just trying to nail down the kind of person who looks at this watch and says "I want that, I'll pay 2.5 grand for it" and all i can come up with, is like, maybe a bitcoin... gentleman, with too much money? Honestly if you guys could just talk about yourselves for a minute I think it would help a lot!

I can definitely see someone who is a really big Dune fan wanting one or both of these! I like the movie, but I don't think these watches are for me.

I really liked Blade Runner too. Looking forward to Dune Part 2. I just happened to watch the first one when it showed up on HBO Max. Lucky me, Part 2 just happens to have come out right when I finally saw it!

Does the watch have resell-ability? Could it increase in value over time ?

I am not optimistic about that happening given how highly priced it is already. Hype for Dune will IMO only go down after we get away from the movie. This will be a watch for Dune fans, and most Dune fans are going to get it now from Hamilton. I would not speculate.

I am here because of Dune, I have no idea about watch market, but from my experience from Star Wars franchise, if Dune Part 3 comes out and is successful as Part 2, then there is a chance there will be a price bump for this watch, especially for Edge.

@@kerimbozkurt3301 Probably even better chance for Dune because there is so much Star Wars stuff that it’s easy for items to get lost in the bunch as time goes on and new Star Wars collectibles take the limelight

The watch is really cool looking and under the radar in term of its "fandom" design which i like. If you didnt know any better, its just an interesting and a cool talking peice. Definately not suit and tie watch, but is you have like a sleek/ sporty/ biker aesthetic it would fit right in.

Whoever signed off on this should be fired. $2500 for a quartz. It’s not even the same as the movie prop watch. They rehashed the Ventura. Really lazy. The Hamilton community is collectively outraged. Today, Hamilton Hong Kong cancelled all the ADs. Hamilton will open its own boutique. It thinks it can sell its pieces with no discount. Hamilton has lost the plot. But the funniest part is ADs in other countries are still offering discounts for Hamilton. So the smart consumers will go to the Hk Hamilton boutique to try on the pieces but then buy it online from ADs in other countries. Swatch Group’s strategies are weird. Whoever’s in charge in HK also needs to be fired too. It’s trying to do the same with the Tissot brand in HK. Business in HK is very slow due to the recession. It seems Swatch Group is oblivious to the market condition. Raising prices and offering no discount is their strategy during a recession. Geniuses!

I’m wearing the Edge right now. I like it only because it’s different and interesting looking but it’s really not worth it if you don’t already own better and automatic watches for the price. It’s like a luxury toy watch. I don’t mind quartz on a digital watch.

I think it’s really cool, and I definitely believe in expensive, high quality quartz watches. But, man, Hamilton must feel confident putting the prices THAT high.

I will wait for other people to wear it for a few years or more so when they get bored with it and sell it then I will buy it because it will get more marks and scratches to get close to OG film watch!

No. Not even close. It would be if they actually resembled the prop watch of the movie. Instead of just recycling the old Ventura design. This is just an severely overprised cash grab.

My guess is no because the Dune hype will die down after some time passes. I think this is for Dune or movie watch/geek watch fans who have to have it right now, and I’m not sure how many more folks are really going to be paying up even more down the line.

I was especially surprised after the Indiana Jones watch was priced at $745. I would think Indiana Jones is a bigger deal than Dune. The Dune watches look cool, but $2,500? You can get a lot of nice automatics for that price.

Hamiltons are great timepieces and their automatic movements are absolutely solid. Their quartz stuff isn't bad, but compared to Citizens, Seikos and Bulovas in the same range they're not worth it. This, on the other hand, is just obscene and probably caters only to the most hardcore of Dune fans and collectors. So unless you're a grade A fanboy with too much disposable income for his own good, I'd stay away.

I 100% agree this is way overpriced. I also don’t really care for numbered pieces as I feel like I’d be afraid to wear it. Maybe it should not have been limited edition but should have been less expensive?

@@FranklyCollecting Numbered or not I really wouldn't be afraid to wear a Hamilton either way. Mine's come to blows with tables, doorknobs, keys and just about any of its natural predators and even without PVD coating, it held up remarkably well. And as a tip, these really don't hold value as well as some would expect. Most watches that aren't insanely scarce or artisanal masterpieces don't do all that hot. And its association with Dune isn't gonna make it any easier of a sell either. It should have been significantly cheaper. Probably around the 1000 dollar mark would have been acceptable for an ETA quartz equipped Ventura imho.

Not sure if they could do the light-up effects without quartz, but the price is definitely steep for it.
