It doesn't matter. An interviewer's job is to gather information, not to "test" you. If you find yourself being tested in these ways, it's a sign of blatant disrespect. Walk away and don't look back.

I once interviewed with the head of IT at a telecom company and he was argumentative the entire time. He seemed to be having fun with the banter but I felt misrerable. I left feeling drained and immediately reached out to the headhunter to withdraw my application. They wanted to hire me..no thanks. At the time I didn't know that stress interviews were a thing, it was a rotten experience.

They shouldn't be "testing" people in such a way. Everyone should be treated with respect in interviews - no one knows what people are dealing with personally, to be treated rudely can hurt psychologically & emotionally. That's very outdated 90s thinking.

I don't mind whether it's labeled as a "test" or not. My time is precious too, and if the interviewer doesn't show genuine interest, I'll end the interview early. I won't spend my time with an overly self-important office worker, only to face rejection despite my sincere efforts to be engaging. Moreover, if this is indicative of how they treat candidates, it raises significant concerns about their overall company practices.

Years ago I had an interview with an executive, I know his schedule is busy, however, he continually interrupted the interview, trying to sell his plane, upon the 3rd interruption ofhimtakingaphonecall, I said it seems like this isn't a good time for you, thanked him for his time and got up and left. I had a bad feeling about the company and this reaffirmed my feelings. Was offered to come back but I declined.

When your interviewer asks "what is wrong with you? Are you seeing a therapist?" Nah, they're just rude. Yes, really happened, because I had worked for a bunch of small businesses that all closed. I mean, I had 4 jobs in one year, and all 4 companies were on their last legs, but thought I'd be a good person to wear about 5 hats. So, after awhile its hard to promote yourself as a good employee, cause you keep moving through jobs, but its not your fault.

I once had an interviewer for a tech B2B customer service job, and the interviewer was a little bit hostile and rude... he kept asking me to explain my answers, even explain more in a very condescending way. The interviewer was purposely pulling my string to see my reaction but I remained calm... after the interview, I messaged the recruiter and their supervisor letting them know the awful experience I had with their organization. I withdrew my application right there... some manager reached out and asked to talk about it, but I was done and wouldn't apply there ever.

When you don't care that much at job interviews you generally have a better chance at getting the job. That is assuming you are qualified for the position.
@MrMuis062 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily true, you need to at least show an interest in getting the job, if not they may think you don't really want the job. I think if you're currently working that makes you more attractive as a candidate vs not working.
@robertagren93602 жыл бұрын
It's itself is an already preprocessed interview because you likely have references who compensate for your personality. If there are no questions is a good sign. Being questioned is part of being disqualified. How do you react when questioned by coworkers? You arrive, show you are interested, you have the qualification. See you again. That's the best way to go on an interview. If you are questioned in late part of the interview is to waste your time, they're being paid; you are not. Think of it this way, you not going to click with an interviewer the first time and you have showed interest by going on an interview. They don't care about who you are. They just want to know if you are qualified and if you have references. That's why I recommend to skip CV entirely and and put in Work Certificate. They don't care what work you had. They only want to know if you are qualified for working. 9/10 times you get a callback for one certificate , not because you had 10 jobs on the CV. Yes if you are qualified they won't care as much about asking any question because all they need is the first impression. It's as simple as ordering products on internet and after X hours an employee is delivered to your store.

Your advise is great! But, as an I/O Psychologist, I'll say that the recruiter *must* offer to the candidate a feedback at the end of the interview that makes him/her feel better, for the ethical and the human aspect of the process. And this "tool" (stress) must be just a little part, but never the entire interview. This it is not a tecnique for use in I/O it comes from Clinic and it has an extremely different purpose.

Then I kept my calm to pass the test, it ended being that she got even more mad that I wasn´t reacting at all, and I was playing cool to her rudeness test xD It ended that I said something so normal that she exploded and said: ok this interview is unprofessional and she hung up the call. xD

What about finessing it a bit; say, something like "I think my cousin has a watch like that." You could pass the test without screwing up the interview in case the person has some legit reason.

What about if 1) an interviewer interrupts you within the first 15 seconds and doesn't even let you finish your responses. Or continues to interrupt you to ask another question. 2) Interviewer has a straight face after your responses, no smiles or follow up comments.

Don! I love your shib brah! My story is a lil long. My wife and I are moving to Florida in April. I’ve been on the job market for almost a year now. I just graduated 3 years ago, I have 3 years experience training at a nonprofit who’s training institute I founded 3 years ago. My dream is to be in corporate training at a call center. Last week I interviewed with a recruiter and it got me a second interview. Yesterday I had my second interview and the director for all of training and development, the manager of training and development, and a training and development specialist all had a zoom interview with me. This past weekend I’ve been studying for hours and hours I even went as far as finding the organizations employee code of ethics and I’ve made of my entertainment material to read everyday. The interview went absolutely awesome, I’m so proud of my answers and the team was so nice, funny, and welcoming. I can’t think of a thing I could have answered better or could have prepared better for. Your channel has been playing in my headphones everyday as I work instead of music. The training manager contacted me via email after the interview and explained they are unfortunately slow to hire at the organization. She said that it took her 3 months to get her job and that she emailed every week to find out how the process is going. She told me I could email her at anytime and if I want to email every week it wouldn’t bother her and she will answer any questions I have. It felt like a great sign considering she would be my boss and the director of training for the whole company was in the interview as well. I don’t want to get too excited as I’ve had interviews with over 15 orgs the past year and I’ve sent dozens and dozens of applications. But watching your stuff has really helped me and makes me feel like one day I will land my dream job. This would be my dream job if I get it but if not I’m in it for the long haul until it happens. Thank you so much for your insights and thoughts. It’s helped me big time this past week. We will see what happens.
