The shutting off on the drill is the anti Kickback feature. Anytime the bit hangs it will do that. Nice video. I watched it specifically because I just committed to the Kobalt 24V line myself.

I bought this combo set last year when I needed to upgrade from my fathers Craftman 19.2V and I'm glad I bought these two. For me as a homeowner, these two tools have done everything I've needed them to do, without problem. Last year I re-modeled 2 rooms with the Impact driver, taken lug nuts off trucks and this summer I used the 1/2 Inch drill driver to drive 5 Inch wedge anchors into the shed foundation and use the 1/4 In. Impact driver when rebuilding the shed walls. Highly recommended, and I would not be embarrassed at all brining my Kobalt combo to someone's house who needed help building or rebuilding. As I have never done contractor work, I cannot speak for that but it would be interesting to see how the Kobalt holds up to contractor grade tools.

Yes there are people that use the clutch on the drill. Im an aircraft mechanic and planes have all kinds of panels held on by tons of small screws. The clutch on the drill prevents us from stripping them out.

When I bought my impact years ago, I just looked at what advertised the best torque. I ended up with a Ryobi 1/2 inch that could turn 300 lb feet of torque. I find it'll sooner snap the head off a bolt than fail to remove it completely. The only thing that's defeated it yet was the lug nuts on the aluminum rims on my buddy's YJ. After snapping multiple ratchets and extensions, we had to use a trailer hitch bike rack as a cheater bar, and that finally got them free.

The first thing I bought of Kobalt was the 1/2" Impact (about 2 years ago), and I'm glad I did, makes things so much easier when I'm working on my Jeep WJ, or helping out a neighbor with changing a flat. I then went and bought the 1/4" impact for things around the house, to use in the Shed and Garage! I have a mix and match but Kobalt is good enough for what I do at home!

I have the Kobalt 24V max 1/2” impact. Been using it a little over a year. It takes lug nuts off like a boss. It even got my xj rear seat belt floor torx bolts out in seconds (could barely turn them by hand). I also recently got their 90 degree 3/8” impact drive and will testing it soon. It’s definitely going to work better for limited spaces.

The thing you were turning on the drill is the clutch, really only useful if you want semi consistent torque on smaller screws or bolts. Like drywall or machine screws. Also if you tighten the chuck as far as you can then turn it in the loosen direction until you hear or feel a click that locks the chuck and prevents slipping on the bit. Really only useful when drill large holes in metal.

I don't use a drill much, so I went w/ the impact wrenches. I've owned the 650 1/2" for a couple years now, thing is massive and feels awkward to work with (for me at least). Recently purchased the 1/2" stubby (site says 150ft lbs, box says 200) w/ their battery kit + free tool deal since I could use it in more spaces easier. Looking forward to testing it out next time I'm at the yard/doing jeep things. I went w/ Earthquake for the cordless ratchet though as it uses a cylindrical battery and not a bulky brick as Kobalt's does.

I've seen plenty of tests of these Kobalt tools and they seem incredibly solid and competitive to the big names. I'm sure they'll serve you well. I wouldn't hesitate to give them a shot if I required. I'm still rockin' a bunch of 18v li-ion Porter Cable tools that I bought about 10-12 years ago (drill, impact driver, circular saw, sander, jigsaw, lantern, hand vacuum, and reciprocating saw but r.i.p. to the reciprocating - thanks dad for stealing it and destroying it). In more recent times though, I got the 1/2" drive 20v impact wrench from DeWalt, a 3/8" drive 12v from DeWalt, and some incredibly decent but also super affordable electric 3/8" ratchet off of amazon. I think at this point, if I require additional tools, it probably makes sense to go 20v DeWalt - however, I'm a sucker for a good deal and if I'm saving a butt-load of money and still getting a quality tool, I'll gladly adopt another battery platform.

I was using my DeWalt drill that started smoking so was in need of a new one, never really impressed over the yellow tools I wanted to upgrade my 12” compound miter saw when the Hercules came out waited another year for new kinks to get worked out and went that route. Paid @ 1/2 of what I was going to on the yellow one and couldn’t be happier with the Hercules! Back to my drill looked at specs per $ and warranty Kobalt was my top runner plus I caught a sale, not only a reduced price on the drill but was running additional offer giving a free additional 4Amp battery. Fantastic tool has handled anything I’ve thrown at it, looks and feels solid but time will tell how it holds up.

But just didnt have the torque of my ridgid and only a two speed trigger. Still works but dont use it. I got a drill. Impact. Radio. Charger. And two batteries for 199. Later bought 2 4amp hour batteries for 99 and a sawzall for 99. All still work great. Also got a ridgid wet vac. Sliding miter. And circular saw. All excellent. I did buy a milwukee fuel 18 half inch impact cause i dont always have a compressor. But that thing was 500. Ouch.

I LIKE having a tool bag for my stuff- esp. if it's a good quality bag that has a hard plastic bottom or at least some sort of bumpers or feet. The charger capacity is important as it will give you a rough estimate of how long it will take to recharge your batteries. Standing by for more vids!

The 1/2 drill that comes with one 4Ah battery and charger for $139 is probably the XTR version. The battery it comes with it is high output made for the XTR line. The battery can be used in the other 20V max tools and the standard 20V batteries can be used in the XTR. Their 1/2" impacts come in three levels. 150 ft-lbs, 650 break away ft-lbs, and (XTR) 750 tightening ft-lbs. Not sure why they rate them the way they do but the price goes up quickly with each torque level. I have the XTR drill since I use a drill often. I have the least expensive 150 ft-lb impact since I already had an air compressor and a Mac 1/2 impact for high torque needs. If anyone wants the standard drill kit it does come with two 2Ah batteries for $139. The XTR drill has much higher torque rating than the standard 1/2 drill. Lowes also has a current promotion where you buy a battery kit with one 4Ah and one 2Ah standard battery with charger and pick out a free tool from a list. That's how I wound up having the 1/2 impact. I bought this kit with the impact and I bought the XTR drill for $268. 3 batteries, 2 tools and 2 chargers. It was going to cost that much or more for just a drill with two batteries and a charger in the professional grade lines. My old drill is a Porter Cable that came with two 1.5Ah batteries. I've had it many years and it still works. It just doesn't have enough torque and run time for some jobs and I got tired of getting out my corded heavy-duty drill.
@joshmay6451
@joshmay6451 Жыл бұрын
So you said that the impact wouldn't do 150 and you turned your torque wrench to 140 and torqued the same on again and it took it right off but if it was already torqued at 150 and you torqued it again it will actually be above 150. We learned that in our first week on the factory floor for honda.

Don't use a deep well socket, the impact is trying to turn more mass and you'll loose a few more FT LBS of torque. I got you beat on price. Last year, right before Xmas, Lowe's had a clearance sale. I wanted to buy another 4 AH battery for my Kobalt tools. It cost $59. The clearance sale consisted of, 1/2" drill, 1/4" impact, 4 AH battery, charger and carry bag. The sale price was $55. Amazing ! Makita has the largest tool line that uses the same battery platform. They have well over 300 tools in the LXT line alone, and using a single battery platform for all your tools is wayyy more convenient than having to switch between from Milwaukee's 12V and 20V platforms. Makita even have subcompact tools that use the same 18V LXT batteries as their full size LXT's. Milwaukee definitely makes more specialty tools for electicians, I'll give them that.

I had the issue in 2014 for home work supply to Makita kit but it was not mine so I want with a ridgid r86008 Fuego drill driver and r86034 impact driver brushed served me well I wasn't smart didn't think about LSA they killed over once the warranty had already expired I stuck with Ridgid nothing against kobalt at all they look robust for home I used to use DeWalt that it was gifted to me from a job that I had a whole tool kit 4 old 14.4v tools and like 4 18v tool I already had one drill that I had since I was 18 in 95. 14.4 v as well I rebuilt them all I just didn't have the time to rebuild the batteries on the finances so I just stuck with Ridgid

I have 11 or 12 tools in this line so far... No complaints except the circular saw sucks ass. . The batteries seem ok. I had one go bad but Lowes replcaced it with no questions asked... I love the 1/4 in Impact driver alot.

Kobalt isn't too bad, miles better than the crapsman junk they seem to be selling lately. I do however have a pair of kobalt vicegrips that came with boogered threads out of the box and a broken 10mm ratcheting wrench that i need to exchange. I have not had any experience with Kobalt battery powered anything yet. Also D, im an impatient prick , when are you going to ship out your Etsy orders!?

Kobalt gives you One battery..by the time you buy the combo and an extra battery, you could've bought a DeWalt for another $50-60. Kobalt is also heavy and bulky...

Well you paid $260 for - 2 drills + a 4ah + a 2ah. if you bought 2 of the other pkg., you would pay $280 for - 2 drills + 2 x 4ah. So, $20 more for 2ah more. I guess that is pretty much the same price. Idk if you can get the impact driver for the same $140, probably. ... I like the Kobalt, good tools, they are craftsman, just rebranded, they were going to be Crasftsman's modern extreme line, til the sale to Lowe's..... But I'd say there are better deals out there. RIDGID tools are as good as any, and HD blows them out all the time. I got Drill/Driver + 2 x 4ah, charger + bag for $150. Then yesterday, I saw the 4 pc set (+ circ saw and tiger saw) for the same price! $150 for 4 brushless tools + 2 batteries and bag, amazing. * IIt's clearance so it won't be at every store. I said all that be cause my opinion is to not commit to a single platform. Everything comes with a charger. Even if you have to carry them around, it's just an extra charger. Having dedicated batteries works out better too in my experience, everything has a batt in it, and a back up charging usually. If I'm sharing then I have to grab another tool, switch the batt. I was like you, then I saw the light! lol,, Cz it's fun to get wicked deals, with all the stores, and online, and all the tool brands, there is always a wicked clearance deal on something. I have %k in power tools that I bought retail for like $1000, lol Peace

Sooo... not exactly what i would have bought. DeWalt also makes a range of different grade impacts and drills. depending on if you are a Pro or a handy man. you are also missing out on the over 200 other tools you can buy that run off the 20V platform. and the 60v platform for when you really need some power. or run time in your 20v tools! Just saying maybe a bit of a dewalt fan boy. but i also think you get what you pay for. and part of dewalt is the amount of tools you can use with the same battlers. also 12 amp hour charges now and 15 amp batters. talk about charging a 5amp battery in like 20 mins lol!

For about the same price DeWalt has a impact driver and hammer drill combo with a 6ah flexvolt battery. Got mine on sale for $300 but it's usually around $400

You crazy?a kobalt 2 amp battery will last 2 days driving screws all day and a 4 amp will last close to a week if not a week.i have one and they last very long and actually has more power than a DeWalt 20v... I can afford DeWalt but I rather kobalt because you get more for your money.to each his own.

Dewalt is Black and Decker's professional line. B&D dug the name out of their files from purchasing Dewalt in the 60's. B&D wanted a name to use instead of using B&D professional. Picked yellow because other professional products were using bright colors. Their warranty department is rated 1 1/2 stars, buying something that says limited warranty, is that, limited. So 2,3 or 5 yr warranty, if it isn't a manufacturer assembly issue or a part issue, it's not covered. Most people will have to pay shipping to find out if it's covered? These companies up charge for their warranty and bet that 80% of buyers will throw the tool away instead of the hassle of attempting to try the warranty.

Stanley Black & Decker's customer service is the reason I shunned them. Went with Kobalt because Lowes is the closest store to me with quality tools. Probably would have went with Ryobi if Home Depot was closer than Lowes. Didn't pick Craftsman because I'm still waiting to see how that shakes out over time. However I did buy a Craftsman shop vac. That thing has the highest suction of any shop vac I've ever had.

@@rdickey7371 I have a little 5 gal craftsman vac. It sucks like crazy, loud as all get out and I have heard some new ones are very powerful, but with craftsman you're still going to have to deal with B&D warranty practices.
