BIG FAILURE!... I have had my Kobalt 24v MAX Brushless tools for a little over three months now and while I liuke tyhem, I have already had a major failure. Today I am taking my cordless drill back to Lowes to find out how easy (or difficult) returning a broken/defective Kobalt cordless tool really is.

I have the kobalt 24v Max and some XTR for home use.... I also have Milwaukee M12 and M18 for work as a heavy equipment apprentice mechanic... They are both awesome.... I started with kobalt and had absolutely no complaints on the tools themselves they performed just as good as any other cordless tool my boss had.... However the only reason I made the switch to Milwaukee was the wider range of tools they offer... If kobalt started releasing a wider range of cordless tools i would have stayed with them without any doubts or hesitations..... Kobalt is the best bang for the buck hands down... quality, performance, affordability and a great warranty. I have no regrets purchasing my kobalt tools. I would recommend them to everyone for home use and depending on your trade for professional use as well...just check the tool line up and if every tool you're going to need for your career is there, buy it 👍

As someone who works at Lowes, I can say Kobalt has a Lifetime Hassle Free Guarantee. If the tool breaks at any point due to a malfunction, you can take it to a Lowes and they have to give you a new one, even if it's past the warranty. In your case, it was a malfunction. You could have sat on that tool for like ten years and exchanged it lol. If you had busted it though through malpractice, it might have been a different story.

Even for power tools? I thought the lifetime warranty applies only to the hand tools.

@@airmobiledivision7759 work at Lowes customer service desk and that is absolutely not true what OP says.. hand tools yes but power tools you better bring back the whole kit AND better have the receipt or the card used to purchase the items. Yes it is 5 years but make sure you jave some form of proof of purchase. Hand tools garden tools yah bring em in and swap em no problem but power tools are a different story and people thing the lifetime tools warranty for hand tools mens EVERY Kobalt product which is not true. The cool thing is even if its 1 tool out of the kit you can bring it all and get a new one. That or sometimes I will have the customer bring the exact kit and for example in this video he coulda grabbed the new drill only and I would throw the old one in the box and damage it out so he doesn't hve to make a 2nd trip to grab the rest of his combo kit if that's what he wanted to do...

I’ve had the 1/2” impact for a year; and it’s been solid. Got the 90 degree 3/8 impact and it’s been great for hard to get to bolts/nuts. Friend borrowed both to work on his 1967 c10 based bus RV and has loved them. Just got the baby 3/8 and it’s been great so far. Have the drill , but not needed it much, so still forming opinion.

When I worked for my Uncles construction company we used a ton of Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee tools and always had really good luck with them but none of them were cordless tools though due to this being in the 90’s and early 2000’s. In 2003 we moved to a small, rural town and it got its first Home Depot maybe 10 years ago. But Lowe’s is still over and hour to an hour and a half away. If we had a closer Lowe’s, I would love to try out some of their Kobalt tools because I have heard pretty good things about them.

I bought the same combo 2 yrs ago with a free multi -tool as a bonus. The 1/4 inch impact is my favorite of the three but love them all... At last count I own 12 tools in this line. One battery had to be replaced but no problems with any tools so far.

I started with the same Kobalt kit. After a couple of years, my driver started behaving the same way. I took it back to Lowe's. They said I had to exchange the entire kit. I ended up getting a whole new kit. The 5 year guarantee date starts all over again. At first they tried to give me the same schtick about 90 day return and then the warranty. I told them, "the box says 5 year guarantee. A warranty is for repair. A guarantee is for replacement". They replaced it. I now have about 16 different Kobalt tools and about 13 chargers and batteries. I'm very pleased with my Kobalt decision.

I've been using the 24V MAX lawn stuff and so far it has worked really well. The 24V battery also lets my little guy zip around on his electric 4wheeler pretty quickly. I would like to see something about continued use of the 3/8" compact impact guns.

I use the kolbalt 24 volt max for my job I jave the drill, impact, palm sander, router, small reciprocating saw, skill saw, multi cutter, vacuum, leaf blower, mini saw, and the grinder. The only issue I have had in about three years since making the switch was during mixing concrete with the drill. I guess it got too hot and just needed to cool down. Everything is still trucking like a champ. Its well worth the money I love them. P.S. original battery is still fully operational after 3 years.

I absolutely love Kobalt with a side note of Dewalt here and there. I've had the same dual Kobalt drills for about 4 or 5 years and they've never failed me. Built everything from pens to a couple garages with zero issues. Sorry to see people having issues with them. Maybe quality changes??

I own Dewalt almost exclusively. I needed a battery powered sprayer and bought the Kobalt 24 v. 2 gallon Tank sprayer. It crapped out almost immediately. I took it back for an exchange and Lowe’s gladly exchanged for a new one. So far, the second one is okay.

I'm a semi mechanic and I have just about every Kobalt power tool that I can benefit from (witch is a lot) and I have never had any issue with any of them. I've had them all for about 2 years now and the impacts are still powerful and the batteries are still holding strong. I also use harbor freights Hercules 12 volt line and have no issues with them either. I use them mostly for interior work. To be fair I do have a snap on CT9080 1/2 inch battery impact and a snap on CT9100 3/4 inch battery impact for the really nasty tight stuff. The two snap on tools cost me more than all the Kobalt and Hercules tools combined. Love the Kobalt stuff.

I have had Kobalt for around 4 years now.. they original drill and impact wrench work great..although I am in no way a weekly user of these tools.. but they have never let me down unless I was asking to much of the tool (like using the impact wrench to open lug nuts). I also have the impact driver for it. and it opens the lug nuts all day every day.. so I am impressed with the quality.

I have the 24V brushless impact driver; had one fail and had a horrible time getting it replaced, but finally after much finger pointing back and forth between the factory and the Lowe's people, a manager walked me back and got me a new box. It was traumatically painful however getting them to honor their stinking warranty. So I have mixed feelings. Thanks for doing this review.

When the LED blinks and the battery needs to be removed/reinstalled to use the tool again, it’s an issue in the trigger switch not being fully released, and the electric brake doesn’t engage, and it then throws a fault code. To fix this….. fully squeeze the trigger, and then slide your finger quickly off of the trigger and just let the trigger ‘snap’ back into place. Problem should be resolved the first time, but it might take a time or two to get the trigger to ‘reseat’ and clear the issue.

I bought a hart drill / impact driver combo from walmart, and I gotta say, they're holding up great! I previously got a couple ratchet/socket kits from them and was very impressed with how they held up, the quality of the ratchets and sockets are pretty good. Meanwhile I had to fork out ~$250 for a milwaukee cordless shop vacuum (the one that looks like a tall rectangle) and a bigger battery (sold separately), It doesn't last very long on the higher setting, and not having a cord to supplement that really brings it down. Wouldn't say that's a milwaukee thing, just sucks to have to charge the battery basically every time i use it.

Went to a 2nd Lowe's the lady tried to help but the flashlight is discontinued, she said call Kobalt & see if they send me 1. Well, this might throw you for a loop, I used to be a Milwaukee fan boy, all kinds of Milwaukee tools, power, hand, and toolbox. I sold all of it and switched to Kobalt because of the quality, power, and cost value compared to Big Red. I couldn't be happier with my choice to switch. What most people don't know is Kobalt is made by the same company that makes Ego yard tools and flex tools. Kobalt is the best value diamond hiding in plain sight... Every tool company will have a defective tool from time to time, the biggest difference is how the warranty is handled. Lowe's again beats Home Depot and Milwaukee hands down. I now have all Kobalt tools, hand tools, power tools, toolbox, lawn equipment and yard hand tools. I have not set foot in a Home Depot for over a year. Lowe's has better customer service, pricing and just makes me feel like a valued customer more then Home Depot and Milwaukee ever did. This is coming from a maintenance technician at an apartment complex... Kobalt is awesome!

That is the amperage overload stop sensor. Its so if youre drilling through steel and the bit bites, it doesnt break your wrist, instead it stalls the drill as an amperage overload. If it is doing this while not under load, the sensor is malfunctioning or you are getting a short somewhere. Many powertool brands use these. But glad they swapped it for you!

BLINKING LIGHT IS A SAFETY FEATURE GONE ROGUE. I've had the blinking light with the drill but it was during use with a 8" ice fishing auger and the extra hand grip installed up front. There's a "torque" sensor in the drill to keep people from breaking their wrists. Your sensor may have been too sensitive. as I understand it, if the handle of the drill whips around it will cut out. The stall torque on the Kobalt drill approaches my old 750 RPM corded Milwaukee. High power motor with high torque using only an on/off switch. We couldn't let any of the crew use it after incidents resulting in one broken thumb, a sprained wrist and several cords wrapped up around wrists.

I'm stuck in the 18v Dewalt camp at the moment so I can't say much till I change battery platforms, but what I've heard is that while Kobalt is China made as a whole, Lowes is paying to have the stuff made with a higher quality than most of your other store brands out there. My neighbor bought a Kobalt 3 drawer toolbox for his grandson a few years back and he found it to have the quality as the Craftsman toolbox next shelf over. No clue how much the kid uses it, but I hear it's holding up fine. Also, I don't remember where I heard this, but what usually happens in the combo kits is one or more of the tools is the low end version of what is on the shelf individually. Some manufacturers list the model numbers on the box so you can compare to the other stuff on the shelf. Don't know if that's still a thing, but it was a few years back.

As for your experience with your warranty return at Lowes, yes it may be a fluke, but sharing that experience is invaluable to anyone else who has a similar problem. I kinda wonder if you would have gotten the same treatment if you said, It's on my Lowes card instead of producing the receipt. And I wonder if the model number on the drills match what's available in store as a tool only.

I had issues with kobalt miter saw warranty replacement. They demanded that I go through the manufacture (Kobalt) but kobalt to told me to swap it out at the store. After a long run around I got my new replacement at the store but I was not happy at all since this took several days of going back and forth. Lowes was not very helpful.

I own all the Kobalt impacts. I’ve had the 1/2” for 3 years and the others for about a year. Admittedly, I’m only a weekend mechanic, but they have been through some serious abuse axle nuts, rusty fasteners of every type, etc. I’ve literally never had a problem with them. They put out plenty of power. The batteries hold a charge forever if you go a while between projects. I can’t speak to professional or sustained use, but as a home DIY’er, these have been the best cordless tools I’ve had since I bought my first cordless tool 20 years ago.

That right angle impact is a serious little monster no lie. Try and wait out a sale for it as they used to have it for 99 bucks plus a free smaller battery

ONE YEAR REAL REVIEW> Used Kobalt for a year in sheetmetal field. The saw is really good, but the impact and the drill both had problems. First they are little bigger and heavier than Dewalt and Milwaukee. Might not notice it if you are just doing it for home use. But if you are like me and use your drills every day you will feel the differance in power and weight. Even though Kobalt is a 24 volt I feel like I get more power out of the Dewalt and Milwaukee 20 volt drills. But the biggest disapointment was just like alot of other people my drills got the over heating electrical problem. Had to keep taking battery out and put it back in to clear tool to use after every trigger pull. So I called up Kobalt since under warranty and told them the problem. Guessing they hear it all the time since they quickly just gave me a return swap number to just go swap my defective drills for new ones. In the end I swapped the defects and just upgraded to Dewalt. Kobalt is good starter tools that can last awhile, but when your job is using them everyday you need the good stuff. And the fact that the Dewalt drill was actually on sale for $99 with 2x batteries and charger compared to $120 for the Kobalt equivalent. It was a no brainer.

I've got 16 24v MAX tools and 8 batteries. I've had them for about 5 years...had one battery die that a lost receipt prevented me from replacing via warranty, but that's the only problem I've had out of any of it. Residential use, but heavy residential use. I work on a ship...all of our stuff there is DeWalt, and we replace tools every few months, but to be fair, that's a hostile environment for power tools, and they're very heavily used. Stay Safe!

I bought this kit, drill/impact, 24v charger and one 24v battery. I got 3½ charges out of the charger and something electronic blew inside the chager. Doesn't matter if either tool is screwed now

Exact same thing happened to my Kobalt drill after about 5 months of home use. I decided to try Kobalt even though my Milwaukee was still working after 10 years but was beat up but still working just wanted to try the Kobalt. Like you said it put a bad taste in my mouth, and they did replace it. But at this moment I am about to buy the Milwaukee 18volt multi tool for 99.00 although it's not brushless I feel it will still out last the Kobalt.

Got lucky, the lowes customer service I’ve dealt with has been pathetic. I’ve found it best to call Kobalt who’s customer service is phenomenal, have them create an “exchange” and get a reference number from them, take it with you to Lowes and the interaction at lowes goes much smoother. They cannot dispute it if you’ve got that reference # from Kobalt themselves. Great power tools though, hopefully the line expands.

I'm just shopping right now trying to figure out if 24 volt is the best for the torque or could I go a little bit lower to 20 or 18 volt 4 amp. Breaking Rusty lugs or other stubborn Fasteners on a vehicle. Also interested in a good cordless impact ratchet

@@nmatthew7469 the only thing kobalt has is its more powerfull then the m12 but not by much and kobalts are big and bulky. M12 has better power to weight ratio, more compact, better ergonomics, way bigger product line in just milwaukees m12 line compared to kobalt. Kobalt did all the tasks i asked for but it was just too bulky and heavy for me.

When you referenced the unboxing video and showed the clip it looks very similar to my Boschs’ anti kickback control, instead of breaking your wrist it shuts off and the light blinks. I’m only three minutes into your video, does the cobalt have the anti-kickback?

Mine has a similar issue with it, if I double click it. Example of double click;. I'm drilling a hole out and I'm drilling for 7 second and for whatever reason I let off the trigger for a split second and immediately pull on the trigger it won't go and will do the blinking light thing until until I let go trigger completely for a full second or so. Then it's good to go. Everytime I double tap it it immediately does that. Other then that I absolutely love the drill. Quick story on how I got it and at an amazing deal. Been eye balling the drill for a year plus. 1vWeek before Christmas I seen they had a special on the drill. It consisted of a 2.0 battery, a 4.0 battery, charger and a bag. They had it priced at $139.99, I seen that price and I decided I was going to come back and get one at that price while they were still had it sometime that week. I didn't make it there that week I made it there on the 27th of December and I was looking for it everywhere and couldn't find it low and behold they ended up having five left they're on a display in the middle of the aisle that I had overlooked well when I went over I had exactly enough money just to buy the price of 13999 plus tax, you're lucky me when I got assistance finding it the price for that item was a Christmas special price and it had changed cause Christmas was over. Lucky me as it was though, the ball was definitely in my court because the price of not gone back up $199.99 like they were over on the shelf at regular price, the price on this 5 is actually $71.98 a piece. Well since I planned on buying just the one at $140+tax, I went ahead and bought two of them, cuz why not now I have 2 bags, 2 chargers, 2 drills and 4 batteries (2-2.0 & 2-4.0). And seeing how the 4.0 batteries alone by themself we're somewhere in the range of $139.99 a piece, I could have left the good old thinking brain at home with no need to consult with it and figured that one out. So what a great late Christmas gift to myself. Side note; both drills actually function the same way. Also the charger that came with the drill is fine, at least I thought it was until I came across a quick charger at a different Lowe's at a reduced price of $29.99 down from $139.99 (don't ask me why everything is seemingly priced at $139.99), then it register again a no-brainer it was only $19.99! 4.0 dead battery charge time; Charger unit came with drill [120+ mins] New quick charge [23-25 mins]

*watched another one strictly out of curiosity and this one was way more watchable than the unboxing because while you still came off with a couple phrases AVE uses on his videos it wasn't ALL like watching a different flavor of his videos. You were doing more of your own thing to better relay your message and it came through much better because you were doing your own thing. THAT was the driving force behind my entire comment*

Dewalt owner here. Switching to Kobalt specifically because when I had this exact issue (hammer drill died after 6 mos) I found out I had to PAY to get it replaced under warranty. As a professional, I need to be able to rely on my tools, so if I can get same day service? That’s driving my decisions going forward.
