I am really jealous to you guys having such shops where you can get all this stuff at one single shop, while we are have to search and collect the parts in so many different shops.

I've got a Hyundai Tucson I take care of and I still take it to a mechanic or two. (Can't do it all myself) She's been a great weekend off-roading rig and run around town daily car. Even the immortal tanks of a LandCruiser and Hilux need maintenance to live forever. Take care of what takes care of you.

That Tucson is not in the same class as an older Landcruiser when it comes to toughness, durability, or capabilities. Not even close. It's just a suv, whereas the Landcruiser is a legend that tamed the rugged African wild and Australian outback. 😁

I’ve been interested in a lc100 as my first 4x4 but can never find a solid fuel consumption post or info for a 4.2td
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding Ай бұрын
Best I’ve gotten so far is 8km/L and worst is 6.5km/L and Joburg to Cape Town I get around 7.5km/L at 110-120km/h; bare in mind my compression isn’t good so this might better (but new bigger tires won’t help) 🤣

@@RoamOverlandingOuch. I know my 2001 Sentra 140Si is no overlanding rig, but 14,5 to 15km/litre helps a lot in my Jhb-Cpt trips😅

I've been having this discussion with my brother the otherday , and I was mentioning to him how I always watched your suzuki videos and I have watched a few overlanders of different cars , and there's always the odd part or something that breaks and maintenance , but i've been wondering if this has ever been the case when you had the jimny? how was the jimny's maintenance and reliability against the hilux and landcruisers you've gotten? would you say it was much better? or only really because you had it since new? interesting take to think about when me and him was talking about it and one of the reasonings of me wanting a jimny.
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding Ай бұрын
The Jimny was fantastic for me, but my opinion on that might be biased since it was brand new when I had it! But it’s built to tough standards, and you can really think of it as a little landcruiser. ALL vehicles need maintenance, some just a bit more than others. Overlanding vehicles are heavy and require even more maintenance.

Did you notice any issues with the car while driving it day to day or have these problems been found through investigation beginning with the injectors.
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding Ай бұрын
the only sign I had that I didnt have good compression was that the vehicle didnt start perfectly every day, it was always a bit lazy on the start up. otherwise I didnt notice much. Even the fuel consumption was pretty good at around 7.5km/l-8km/L on the open road; but around town was quite a bit higher.

@@RoamOverlanding yup. It gets pricy quickly. Dealing with a leaky(very very slow) brake booster (same as yours). None in South Africa from Toyota and they only sell the whole unit. (their first delivery date is Jan next year if I ordered and paid last week 😂. And it's rather pricy). So I am exploring another route.. Trying to find someone to rebuild/fix it. Fun and games enjoy the journey.

Yah I know man! I’m in quite a bit, but I still think it’s way less than buying that new Prado, and I don’t think that new Prado would give me the feeling my 100 does when I drive it. You definitely can get the accumulator separately, and that’s often the part that goes, head to Partsouq, load in your vin number; try get the exact part number and then try give it to Toyota and see what happens 👌🏻 otherwise maybe Terrain Tamer can try bring in the part for you too; but it won’t be cheap. All options to play around with.

TRUST ME A 1992 COROLLA IS MORE RELIABLE THAN A LAND CRUISER. I HAVE BOTH AND LAND CRUISER NEEDS MAINTENANCE (FUEL SENDING UNIT, BRAKE MASTER PUMP, POWER STEERING RACK), WHILE THE COROLLA STILL ON ALL ORIGINAL PARTS.

At what stage do you collect sponsorship from Toyota ZA; or Terrain Tamer for that matter. Also, imagine any other car driving these issues?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding Ай бұрын
Sorry Riaan, not 100 sure what you mean by this message 🫣 I am a Terrain Tamer ambassador, and they do sponsor me for any clarity; we have worked together for nearly 4 years now, so we are great friends. And this cruiser has 480,000km, and has crossed Africa and back twice with its previous owner; so it’s lived a life and I bought it knowing it would need some love. But I just love its story and where it’s been and what it’s done, and love the idea of trying to bring it back to its glory days for another 26 years 🤣

Why do you not use Toyota parts?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding Ай бұрын
I have access to the Terrain Tamer parts, we work together on many of our vehicles. Terrain Tamer try and offer OE equivalent or better parts, so there are even a few that come with some little upgrades here and there that they’ve seen over the years. Some of the parts are actually OEM if they can’t find something similar or better.

Any vehicle with 500 000 km (the few that even reach it) will need lots of stuff repaired/replaced. Your new "Discovery" or "Defender" crap will never see that mileage.
