You Yanks are missing out on the Mazda 2 turbo diesel. Superb little car. Not powerful at 105bhp but 250Nm of torque gets you past thing really quickly on highways and freeways. Light and nimble, it drives really well. The fuel economy is awesome. In town I get 53 mpg (US), on the freeway at 75 mph I get 58 mpg. On highways I get 71 mpg. The 11.6 US gal tank gets me 700 miles for $52. The car cost $18,000. Only one problem in 7 yrs, an O2 sensor failed and was fixed for free outside of warranty.

The reason we are”missing out” on the Mazda 2 is that it would be a death trap on American roads. It’s a tiny car and dwarfed by the average car on the road here. Also, we can thank EPA CAFE regulations for not having most of the models and configurations of cars sold in Australia, the Middle East and parts of Europe that we can’t get. They wouldn’t pass stupid EPA standards here.
@csjrogerson2377
@csjrogerson2377 3 ай бұрын
@@bdeheton6445 EPA could be fitted it is to other Mazdas. As for being so small as to be dangerous - what an effing stupid statement. Its bigger than a BMW mini, Smart 2, Smart 4 and Geo, same as a Toyota Yaris coz it was sold as that in the US, but no diesel, which has less CO, Co2 and NOX than a BMW mini.
@bdeheton6445
@bdeheton6445 3 ай бұрын
@@csjrogerson2377 There are almost NO cars the size of the Mazda 2 on the road in the US anymore. For good reason, too. Perhaps you might be fine driving down the overcrowded interstate going 80mph (133km/h) with massive trucks, SUVs, and 18 wheelers flying by going 85-95mph - but most Americans are not fine with that. That's why there are a pitifully small number of those small vehicles you mentioned sold in America today. Yes, there are massive road trains in parts of Australia and quite a few Land Cruisers or Patrols, but the majority of vehicles in Australia are much smaller on average than in the US and the speed limits and actual speeds travelled are MUCH slower than here. 20 years of experience living and driving in Australia is why I know.

My favorite brand as well; I've owned six over the years, two currently. Thanks for this very fair and honest assessment of the brand. They're not perfect cars, for sure, but the combination of driving dynamics, style, interior quality and comfort, and price is truly unique. I worry, though, that Mazda's choices to lag behind in offering hybrid-electric technology and to deemphasize electronic features and infotainment will come to haunt the company and threaten its future, since almost every other manufacturer is going the opposite direction.

I agree sometimes the autonomous breaking would drive me nuts, it would scream at me even if nothing or no one is in front. Also, there has been a few paint chips on my vehicle caused by rocks, etc. but I was already expecting that due to our frequent trips to mountains thru old logging roads. They could have made the paint a lot more durable though. But I really love the way my CX-30 handles and what really made me decide on it is that I test drove it last (after the crosstrek and HR-V) and it has the most luxurious and engaging feel on it. I don’t mind the space since I usually drive alone to work within the city or with my partner during our weekend mountain trips in BC either during summer or winter since the awd handles well. Its a perfect lifestyle vehicle for me. I do hope that they bring the hybrid versions here in NA, as they are pretty common in Europe and Asia.

6:45 - Just an FYI that no fuel induction/injector service by Mazda will clean the back of the valves, which is where the carbon deposits are in a DI engine. The typical DIY process is to blast them with walnut shells, but asking a dealer if they offer that service will only get you a blank stare, because they're only trained to offer those that give them the best profit margins with the least effort. In other words, a bottle of injector cleaner added to the tank for $120+. The _actual_ problem will remain and get worse.

The biggest selling point for me is the CX-5 has an automatic transmission, NOT a CVT. Long term reliability and life expectancy of CVT’s in general are nowhere near AT’s, and require fluid changes very frequently as metal fines constantly wear off the belts causing premature failures. @vindictiv6880
@vindictiv6880 Жыл бұрын
@@MuiKaHo you have to compare apples and apples. For example, the RAV4 base trim of Toyota is 1k more expensive than the cx-5 base trim. If you look at the HRV from Honda, it's a worse cx5 in every way beside pricing. A more fair comparison is with the HRV and the HRV is 3k more expensive (base trim vs base trim). Now, if you increase trim to get a stronger engine (ex: turbo CX5 vs hybrid RAV4), the price difference increases even more in favor of the cx-5. Same for the Cx-50 but to a lesser extent. Then to that, add how Mazda has been offering a much better interest rate which was 3.9% for 6 years and is now 5.9 vs 7.29% for 6 years at Honda or 6.89% for 6 years at Toyota. Also, you are correct that some model don't offer AWD, that's the case for the CRV which is ironically more expensive than base model cx5 but also is only 2wd. Plus, honda and toyota's don't have leather/premium looking interiors, even at higher trims, unlike mazda.

The 2004-2009 Mazda3s have a common issue with ABS module failures. Sometimes they can fail without illuminating an ESP or ABS light. Make sure the ABS works normally without the pedal falling during the cycling before you buy. Also double check that all the trouble lights function when you first turn the key. This is an expensive repair and is easy to miss during a test drive.

The cx-30 has a good amount of everything. Handling, power, luxury, reliability, appearance, value. It's for practical drivers who still want to have a little fun and a little luxury. But they should've put heated mirrors. My mirrors are always foggy.

In this class, if you are bent on technology, hands down, the Kia Sportage is your baby. You also get a few more goodies for the dollar spent. Everything he says here about the competition vs Mazda in general is pretty accurate. Since the CX5 wasn’t going to be our primary vehicle and we own a larger SUV, we chose it for the fun of the more personal driving experience and the way it “separates itself” from the pack.

If this is your favorite brand, I'd hate to hear your rant on the other brands. If I listened to this before I bought my 2023 Mazda 3 preferred Platinum Quartz sedan, I probably wouldn't. Only having 162 miles on it, I have no issues this early on. I just hope I don't after listening, to your video. The only reason I bought this car is because Ford stop making the Focus in this country , I traded in my 20 yo Focus for this car, I am expecting the same kind of reliability with this car but I guess I*m being too optimistic,

I tried reiterating this in the video but every brand will encounter some flaws, most mazda owners don't run into big problems. The 3 is probably the second most reliable car in the class behind the Corolla. I'll make a similar video on toyota and honda someday when I review enough of them.

The fact that they don't use a CVT and they still put a manual transmission in one of the Mazda 3 trims it's part of the reason why I'm looking at them as opposed to Honda or Toyota I hate CVTs. It's a source of stress I know even if I take care of it it's going to eventually go out and then I'm out thousands of dollars. I love the interiors so far I can see what you mean about the back seat but with small kids it's not an issue.

Leaking ball joints at 30,000 miles for my 2021 Mazda 6. Don't know if you've seen or heard of that being a common issue. Mazda is covering it because the car is still under warranty. I'm a lifelong Toyota guy and decided to switch to Mazda with this car. Although I love the way it handles and is designed, reliability is key for me. I am hoping this is a one off but if it isn't, I'll be switching to something else.

@1:30 As an owner of a 2018 Mazda 3 where the paint has all but peeled off my front bumper, hood & side mirrors, I can attest that the paint Mazda uses was still trash in 2018. It seems to be their Sonic Silver Metallic Paint because almost all silver Mazdas I've seen from about 2016 to 2019 have chipped paint.

@@cormaro13 I hear you, mine isn't ceramic coated so that is why it gets chips from stones on the road. I wash it at home very carefully, so I'm not an idiot who run the car through the automatic wash. Also, my previous car, the 2011 BMW 1 series which I had for 9 years got a few chips but nothing serious. The steering wheel leather on BMW is much higher quality than on the Mazda and never peeled after 87k miles. The dealer told me that minority of CX-30s have problems with steering wheel peeling so I'm getting a warranty replacement.

I just bought a 2024 cx5 signature and traded my 2018 Mazda 6 signature. The 6 for me was close to perfection, I live down a very bad dirt road, 5 miles of it. After 4 years not one rattle or front end issue...I like it much more the cx5 but wanted an AWD and got a very good trade. If the 6 ever come back I will want to trade for it. I will say I don't like the seats, even though they are Napa leather and find toyota and subaru seats much more comfortable. But if one likes driving the others don't come close in driving dynamics...So disappointing in hearing you talk about all the issues, seats and paint I understand but difficult for to believe some of the other stuff I heard, my 6 was fantastic and i thin i will regret getting the cx5 and dumping my 2018 signature but I will say the Mazda did improve on the seats in the signature.
