5:13 you can easily clean up overspray with Vallejo airbrush flow improver! It acts as a magic eraser that affects only fresh paint! As long as the acrylic paint below is at least 10hours cured, it should be no problem. Wipe it with a brush loaded with the flow improver, and rinse with another brush loaded with just water, maybe repeat another round. Vallejo Flow improver: it improves your workflow, not just your airbrush paint ;)

For airbrush coloring contrast blue, I like to thin Talassar blue since it has a lot of transparency for tinting.

I say this as someone who bought 2 cheap airbrushes and a cheap compressor before just buying a $90 Procon brush with an actual compressor: if you plan to do multiple armies just buy a good airbrush at the beginning. A cheap airbrush and unreliable compressor without a regulator is like drinking vodka that comes in a plastic bottle to see if you like alcohol. After I finish my latest masters and have some time to paint, I’m buying an Evolution and getting several armies painted that are stacking up in boxes. I should have just bought an expensive airbrush and compressor at the start when I have like 5 armies ready to paint with more armies sitting on sprues. That’s just my $0.02, if you can afford GW plastic then you can afford good tools.

I’ve had issues with both the ultra and evolution guard building up with paint and causing it to splatter and making it harder to clean the needle. James from Siege showed me you can remove the evolution guard at a weekend workshop and it made a massive difference. I tried to swap the ends of the evolution and ultra as the collar on the ultra really helps with learning. It wasn’t a perfect fit though so didn’t work, although maybe the needle size is different so it might work if you swap that over too. I’ll try when I next get it out, if it works you might find it useful to try too

You can always shoot for a good price on the Ultra 2024 and upgrade it later with an Evo lever + spring, a fineline head, different needle setup, you name it. H&S are super flexible and the Ultra '24 is an easy entry

I'll be real honest and say that extremely cheap airbrushes don't save you money in the long run, and anything other than a proper compressor will only cause you headaches. I went through five of those cheap 20 euro airbrushes over the course of little bit less than two years before I had enough and just bought a harden and steenbeck one for like 80 euros. It has none of the cool features the new ones have, and it's not even on their store anymore, but it still works flawlessly after two years of use. 60 euros gets you a good tankless compressor, and if you spend at least the same amount on a pretty good airbrush, you probably don't need to buy a new airbrush for years.

Nextlevelpainting always use to say "be brave" when it came to airbrushing. I think you could have gone way harder with the airbrush on Belial. The worst thing that happens is he takes a bath in degreaser and you learn something.

Been using the Ultra for about 3 months now. Have a nice looking army in progress with it and with the chapter colour scheme I chose (coz I'm an idiot) it's made me realise I can achieve it using an airbrush. I'm now also looking to upgrade. Not because I've mastered it... Far from. But I now want to take the stabilisers or and push myself. Next month.... Maybe upgrade time 😅 Also, cracking army you have so far!

I would like to get one of those, I got an iwata eclipse and a badger patriot and I like both of those (the badger I mostly use for priming), but being able to swap out the cup or just remove it so I can clean the brush easier would be great.

Try the Marco Frisoni style on something. Seriously, it's so liberating to realize that it really isn't magic - it's totally achievable to do models in his style, cloth especially loves that style of underpainting.

try to thin your paint down a little more and use a very low pressure and you'll be amazed at how small you can go with an airbrush

Great video. But how do you manage to strip your paint with a decal? I never heard of that happening to anyone ever!

The two things I can think of are: Didn't let the primer cure long enough and when applying microset it melted it all off. Or, had some white spirits in my water pot and that melted some paint when I was using the brush on the transfer

Were you using AK primer the first time around by any chance? Because I know that primer is notorious in terms of reactivating. We all make mistakes in this hobby, I’ve made tonnes myself.

This was Vallejo primer, gave up using AK ages ago, too matt and can flake it off with your fingers dead easy.

Yes, had the Chaplin primed for about a week or so. Not the second time I messed up the shoulder pad, that was about 5 minutes 😂

The problem with using a cheap airbrush or cheaper airbrush is it doesn't allow you to improve your trigger control, that won't come unless you use the better airbrushes like the evolution or the iwata cs. Stick with it. I was doing airbrush artwork for six years before I got really good with airbrush trigger control

I've used every airbrush imaginable no one can tell me a cheap iwata neo is anywhere near the level of an eclipse or the higher priced h&s. Absolute garbage.

Once you get to ultra level brushes you really run in to diminishing returns spending more money that 90% of miniature painters will never see the benefit from. Plenty of scope in that brush to really learn trigger control, paint consistency and air pressure effects. With the ultra you totally can learn trigger control.
