I'm really impressed with this video. It's the first video about airbrushing that's made me think it's worth trying. I've always avoided getting an airbrush because of the maintenance and cleaning. It's seemed like a lot of work, but your explanation is really good. It looks like the barrier of entry skill wise isn't as bad as I had thought.

I bought airbrush + compressor and didn’t use it for 10 years for the reasons you mentioned. Once I sat down for a full day to base coat minis and terrain it was fine. Tutorials exist but if you have some one who can just show you in person you will realise it’s not that much of hurdle.
@Nick-the-Squig7 ай бұрын
Literally bought this airbrush yesterday, due to my old (inherited) one giving up the ghost. It was a cheap cheap one, but it was free and worked 40% of the time. Thank you so much Pat for reassuring my decision on getting it. As I am a utter utter novice and, like your previous video, scared as hell using one.... and I have a need to paint some Mangler Squigs in my future. big areas to paint! Eek! Keep up the great content both of you.

I’m new to airbrushing, and use that exact airbrush. It’s fantastic. You can mix paints in airbrush cup. Vastly faster. Trick is thinner first! Then paints. You can use a makeup sponge to block end to bubble paint for mixing. Fast & uses less paint.

It takes people who know the product, to develop the product. Harder & Steenbeck are lucky in having people at the top who know how to use an Airbrush and know how to make one. The Ultra is the only airbrush ever made that from it's inception has had the beginner at the core of it's design. II am contracted to the factory and have taught, demonstrated and used for several brands over the last 30 years, I have not seen development of an airbrush by any other brand that even gets close to these H&S airbrushes.
@kazzIsTheName7 ай бұрын
I got my Ultra on release. At the time where I had tried 2 cheepo airbrushes. I had absolutly no idea where I went wrong with them. Bought this and found up that a. You get what you pay for. And b. Yes I did a few things incorrectly. And now I am exploring my airbrush a lot more than just a priming tool when it rains.
@Crabbers_paints7 ай бұрын
Great video, I've been toying with airbrushing for soooo long can I ask what compressor you use? Also are the 'peripheral' bits additional necessary purchases? Cheers 💚
@thepaintingphase7 ай бұрын
A cleaning pot definitely comes in handy. Can shoot any excess paint and cleaner into that which is ideal. Stands and stuff aren't necessary. I'll check the compressor and get back to you, can't remember which one it is.
@nathanlovin7 ай бұрын
I really love that airbrush. My biggest gripe with it is the inability to backflow with it when cleaning. But seeing your method, I may just need to switch up my cleaning process when using it bc it’s a dream to use otherwise.
@rankcolour87807 ай бұрын
Nothing stopping you from backflowing it, it's not difficult to block the nozzle with your fingers or if you are less-able or suffer some disability some wadded paper or a nozzle cap.
@thepaintingphase7 ай бұрын
This was my initial gripe with it too but I've gotten used to mixing paint with the handle of a paint brush. Blocking the nozzle is a pain with all the holes so I don't bother. A trick I was shown, however, if you unscrew the cap by a tiny amount and pull the trigger, that starts a backflow.

Great video. I’ve got the same brush and enjoyed it but had some problems with the 1,2, and 3 options of the brush. Probably my inability to thin things properly. What PSI were you using for the video?

Instead of shooting the paint through the needle when cleaning, use a squeeze bottle and some backflow first. Vince venturella has a great video of this 30 secs in between colour cleaning.
@thepaintingphase7 ай бұрын
You can't backflow this brush quite the same because of all of the holes in the cap. Bubble back has been designed out of the brush to avoid any negative experiences with it, i.e. shooting paint all over the place.

The vid then allows us to share in that and get a bit of it ourselves. I'm looking at upgrading to this brush, not an airbrush beginner but not really progressing lately and this system might allow me to backtrack a bit and push through. It's this or a kickstarter laden with beautiful minis, got a huge grey pile, but well, FOMO, and the brush won't sell out lol. Just a great vid

Great video. I’ve had my Ultra for a month and it’s been the best hobby purchase I’ve ever made. I previously destroyed 3x airbrushes (2x premium & 1x budget) in 2yrs because I just couldn’t grasp the skills/knowledge required. I lost all confidence as a result and just stopped trying. I’m now using the new Ultra all the time, with real confidence. The odd issue I’ve had I’ve managed to work out and fix the problem pretty easily. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

I purchased this brush recently. I got the Squidward version of the ultra and what the brush is done for me is it allows me to realize my mistakes as being a new airbrushing. So like I was painting primer on minis after Minnie and I wasn’t checking the needle and I was getting no paint and I would change the pressure and then I would get paint and then it would stop and I had to stop the process and figure out where, I went wrong. Because if you follow the process, it should be easy to figure out so I mix my pants. I spray I spray I spray I wash the tip with a brush push the mirror out then spray and spray and spray spray and spray check the model, clean tip with that brush then do it again
