Question: I am aware of the hadith regarding the impermissibility of men wearing gold. Are you aware of the rationale and purpose? In other words, should this hadith be understood literally as gold metal; is it because the gold is valuable? In other words, are platinum and titanium, which are more valuable, permissible simply based on a literal reading? A new Muslim convert who is newly married prefers a gold colored wedding ring, as that is his family’s custom. He & his wife wish to understand the fiqh issues surrounding this. This person has asked several different scholars & got a really wide range of opinions. The reason why this is also important is because it affects how a new convert understands how we approach our religion.

Gold is an investment and is an interesting tool to hedge against inflation. I thought only wearing it was not permitted for men, and holding it as a store of value was OK. I thought that I did my part by giving zakah...

So, nice to listen, hoarding of wealth and sense of Pride (any sign of bearing with you - is ) is haram. ( principle as it is ), some modified islam ( bukahari islam ) made it literally like word by word not as principle of life and society.
