Both cars that scotty good even though its common for people to disagree. Im serious about scotty not knowing half of what he says, go to any forum for cars and youll see that audi did well from 2012-2017, mazda has done very well before and after ford, porsche is as reliable as toyota and lexus, subarus boxers are very good, and not outdated like he says(boxers are an engine layout, with that logic inline engines are more outdated), kia and hyundai outdo honda. Dodge, fiat, chyrsler is doing well as of the past 3 years, whereas ford and lincoln are not. The f150 has almost always been a subpar truck compared to the silverado, especially when talking diesels, the allison tranny is better than any other offerings and the dodge cummins is the best engine sold whereas the powerstroke had issues for a while. If youd like more ill go on, i can also provide you with multiple sources to back up my info, ranging from forums for user accounts of ownership and independant companies who review reliability. Also almost every car is made in mexico, including stuff like the tacoma I have no idea how people think the us produces the best things when germany, switzerland, and japan constantly outdo it.

I was a financial analyst that audit manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Mexico. The quality issue in Mexico is partly caused by the low pay, and high turn over. Many U.S. companies cluster their plants close together so there are plenty of jobs that pay just a little bit more than the other. This means they are constantly training new people with little to no experience to include the trainers. Any cost savings in labor/benefits can be lost in warranty claims, cost of high turn over, and reduced efficiency. Dollar for dollar just about everything else cost the same to build/run a plant in the U.S. or a plant just south of the U.S. Border. Another part is corporate pressure to cut cost year over year also results in low quality components. That's how you get a GM product that has door/compartment hands that break with under 50,000 miles, poor quality of touch materials, and all the other issues that come standard in a GM vehicle. For the record I was a die hard GM fan for about 20 years. I don't see myself buying newer GM vehicle again.

@@TheColonelSandersGuy Regardless of where the parts are made, they still have to pass stringent QC guidelines before they are installed in the vehicles. The main thing I am upset about with manufacturers offshoring the jobs, is that it takes away from American jobs. But I also understand that one of the main reasons these jobs were offshored was because of pay. When the Unions demand higher wages, for these people to do the same amount of work, they price themselves out of a lot of job positions, or have to pass those costs on to the consumers, which then lowers car sales, which then leads to less new cars being made, which leads to less hours worked and so on.

I drove my boss's early 2000 Silverado today and I was impressed. The steering was really tight for something with 215,000 miles. He bought it 8 years ago with about 60,000 miles on it and all he had to do to it since then was replace an alternator, front wheel bearings, and front calipers. Nothing else. A/C still blows ice cold, Scotty would love that. Engine runs like a dream. Sure, it's tired and doesn't like to tow things anymore, but it seems like it's been a great work truck. Also he's never replaced the battery. I think he's going to have to soon. The starter doesn't turn as quickly as it should.

When I was growing up, nearly everyone in my family drove a GM product. My dad and grandpas on both sides had Chevy trucks from the 70s. They had a good drivetrain but were rust buckets, they were know to start rusting before you could finish payments... The last Chevy truck my dad owned was a 77, and he sold it after replacing the bed, doors and floorboard. In 1990, he went to Ford after that. All the Chevy/GM guys made fun of him driving a Ford, but thirty years later, where are all the diehard GM people now? Btw I bought a 2013 Camry and hopefully my next truck will be a Tundra or a Tacoma.
@bd9074 жыл бұрын
Scotty, another thing to mention, those older models didn’t have GM’s AFM (Active Fuel Management) that switches from 8 to 4 cylinders depending on usage. Only later did they discover that all that switching from 8 to 4 cylinder mode caused issues with the rings and lifters causing massive amounts of oil consumption and lifter failure. GM killed the reliability and longevity of these models as a result.
@spottedsaint9572 жыл бұрын
Actually GM did in fact put the AFM system on some of their older model Cadillacs back around in the late 1970's and early 1980's. My cousin had a 1981 Cadillac Deville with a "4-6-8" setup on it and I've heard that particular configuration of Cadillac motors was so bad that people had to have that "feature" disabled by the mechanics in order for the cars to be driven. GM basically "yanked on the donkey's tail for a snickers bar a second time after seeing their buddy get kicked in the groin". Why would they revisit a design that was an abysmal failure 40 years ago? That makes no sense.

Perhaps you're confusing the Federal Reserve with the Second Bank of the Untied States - a totally different entity that acted as a repository for Federal funds and as the government's banking agent. Jackson did remove all of the United States funds from the bank in 1832, and the bank ceased operations after its charter expired in 1836. The stock ones can blow at any time due to rust, mine did a couple weeks ago. The stock ball joints are sealed, if you got serviceable ones on yours now, be sure they get greased when you get your oil changed. Also make sure to keep up on the transmission service. The 4l65e is pretty well know to lose 2nd and 4th and reverse with no warning. Just in case you haven't heard any of this before, i want to spare you finding out the hard way. Hope this helps some.

Glad that someone mentioned this...so really the price is still basically the same. However I'm sure the new ones will not last nearly as long as the old ones. I don't think Ford's reliability is much better nowadays but Scotty never mentions that very much-although I will agree Ford did not receive bailout money. We have newer model Fords where I work and there always having problems as well

If only wages and salaries kept up with inflation 😢

That inflation nonsense is just that, nonsense. Look at what a desktop or laptop computer, tv, or most other technology cost in 2002 and look at how much better and cheaper they are now. I payed $600 for my first Insignia 32" 720P HD TV in 2007 now you can get a 65" 4k Smart Samsung TV for less than that. Automakers are ripping people off period

Hello from Finland! Just this tuesday I bought me a 5.3l 2002 Tahoe with 190 000 miles on it. Gonna use it as a daily driver. Looks awesome and drives smoothly.

I had an 06 Tahoe as a work truck. It ran like a top. It was a leased vehicle that I had to turn in at 132k miles. Only thing that broke on it was the rear a/c piping, that was just pinched and capped off. Then I was given an 2010 Tahoe. It felt "cheap". Way more plastic used inside and out. The body moldings began to squeak after the first 20k miles. Others in our fleet had rear differentials that wore out faster than any previous model. Then I got a 2015 model with the auto, 2wd, 4wd and low 4wd modes. Yikes. Same thing with driveline issues, tranny replaced prior to 96k miles, then nearly replaced the replaced transmission at 126k miles. Company said "nope", "get rid of if". Other 2015 - 2018 Tahoe's in our fleet had tranny issues, rear diff and torque converter issues. Mind you these were "work" trucks. Work stops when a truck goes down for repairs for a few days, or weeks. Man, I miss that 06 Tahoe. It was 2wd, but it was a strong running truck. That's my 2 cents worth.

If you didn't go on unpaved roads often, 2wd would be all you need! They made them so SO much better back then.

My buddy recently got into them. I’ve imported all the cheap and running ones within 150 miles of us, there are 4 in the yard now xD

Got a 94 2wd Convertible Tracker sitting beside the house. It needs a new engine , still it's solid and nice with a Aisin 5 speed manual , with interchangeable bell housing. I am thinking a GM IRON DUKE 2.5 will be perfect for it.

Setting the differential incorrectly like that sounds like a fuel economy strategy.

I am the second owner of a 1997 Silverado 4X4 that is still rolling strong with 298K. The owner used Amsoil from day one and I continued to as well.
