I totally get defensive too if someone wants to help though I try so hard to be independent. There is always good intention but it doesn't make it feel better. It's like I am scared of seen like a child, old person, someone who needs help, because I feel like they are reduced to that identity of being someone in need. A slippery slope.

I saw this live stream but then my kid needed some attention so I couldn't get some questions in. Next time! Greetings 💕

interesting, I am not scared of tipping back. It would be fine and I can get myself up in my wheelchair (now). In rehabilition we fell often and we weren't scared anymore of it. And we learnt how to get back into the wheelchair.

I pretty much agree with Brit and the views expressed in the vid'. I find people often conclude burden through a misplaced understanding of how people are valued in society. The life of individual is sacrosanct in every sense, that is to say it has value, dignity and worth, irrespective of arbitrary considerations such as age, sex, sexuality, ethnicity, religious belief, developmental stage of life etc Sadly, there is an aggressive individualism which seems all too pervasive, certainly in Western society. I suspect the current push for "state-assisted suicide" is evidence of this.

Depends on the person. Some disabled people take advantage of others. They use their disability to swindle people. As a paraplegic I am incredibly independent. Heck, there are times when people ask ME for help!

I don't think we should be ok, if someone is overly helpful, and a bit too much. If we don't speak up, they don't know, they just wanted to be helpful.

would any of you two date someone in a wheelchair? I know many couples they are both disabled

Great question, I dated a girl with a SCI a few years back and we had so much in common, it was great. She wasn't in a wheelchair tho, she had issues walking, but would pass for able bodied to most people. It didn't last, but it was a wild romance
