I think Porsche is on the right track with their acceleration into EVs. They probably made the best electric car, Taycan, and that was their first electric venture. Many like EVs for its low maintenance and other plus points, and benefits like instant torque and acceleration. But for long holiday trips, say taking the car to Europe, I think many think range anxiety is the biggest concern that holds people back when they are used to 400-500 miles range in their ICE models. Nearly 400-mile range is already available in some expensive EVs, and soon 500 miles would be possible. So, I guess Porsche is ahead of the curve here. Just to let you know, I've already booked a RWD Macan EV, just the base model. I'm not into superfast top models, good for tracking to get the full potential, as I think they are pretty pointless on our speed limited roads. The base model is just about fast enough for 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, but gives the best range of 399 miles that I wanted. And I think it would be quite sporty, don't forget most sports cars are RWD :)

J Paul Getty was said to have said’observe the masses and do the opposite. If most sports car brands are not going down the EV route then being ahead of the curve for zeitgeist of the future could be the best policy. I think getting the pain out of the way will make them match fit while others are playing catch up they can get volume sales. Keeping the 911 with a mild hybrid set up to appeal to enthusiasts is a good hedge for now.

I'm delighted i have my 718 Cayman, i shall not be relinquishing it anytime soon or ever for that matter. EV's seem to be suffering a certain amount of public reluctance lately. One could argue whether it's the EV's themselves or the infrastructure but i won't be getting on board until new battery technology drastically improves or is replaced. Lithium ion was never going to be the solution to producing affordable green transport for the masses, durability, longevity, sustainability and recyclability were always heavily compromised to say the least. It's admirable that there is a push for an improvement to the combustion engine but we will undoubtedly have to suffer through several technological failures in order to come up with a satisfactory answer, it's just the way of things. I guess we will know we have got there when people gladly switch rather than being coerced or forced.

Good point you make, it needs to be more appealing right now. That said I do have high hopes for massive improvements in battery tech in the not too distant future. Reading about lots of progress in this space recently!

Just got the chance for the VIP event of E Macan 4 and Turbo as well as the new Taycan turbo s as limousine and ST and CT on the ADAC Hansa race track in Lüneburg! You won't believe the dynamic and the force these cars brings it on the road! The Turbo S is mind blowing and you will never again want an ICE version without you need more than 140 db loud screaming machines! But even then you will never be as fast as a Taycan Turbo S! On German Autobahn I just blew up an AMG 63 GT! At 240 km/h it took about 3 seconds to accelerate to 275! And the 4 guys in the AMG took a bite of the steering wheel! And if you mean it's not enough just take the GT version and you blow away! Electric cars are the future, and the future is now! You can't beat the Disruption because the Disruption makes no prisoners!

With every single brand now seemingly having a very good resto mod following let’s hope Porsche decide to bring back an old skool 911 remake but for the people to buy . Personally I think Porsche will double down on ev but then launch the new hybrid fuels for Porsche owners only too

I drive an ICE vehicle for my daily driver. I want an EV for the convenience of never needing to stop to fuel up. My next vehicle will be my first Porsche and my first EV. I am holding off buying a Taycan GTS to see the Cayman EV. The Porsche model I buy will depend on what "driver-less" technology the Cayman EV has.
@harmony31383 ай бұрын
"driver-less" technology? Where is the fun in driving a Porsche then if it drives itself?
@voksic813 ай бұрын
Porsche is the wrong choice then. They on purpuse do not follow the pack; no one pedal driving and only driving assistance (no self driving). If you want to be driven, look at some other brands. I turn off all that stuff on my Taycan 😂

My guess the EV will not lead Porsche into the future, maybe Hybrid will lead, but I believe Porsche will evolve into other tech such as Hydrogen. There has been 700 Taycans for sale in the UK for months and the prices are in continual free fall. My Porsche Dealer keeps asking me to consider a Taycan, But I'm not prepared to buy due to the heavy losses incurred. I'm staying with my petrol Macan. This is my own take and the EV debate is a huge one. You cannot force a market the market is dictated by sales and profit.
@TABonTV3 ай бұрын
I don't think hydrogen will ever make it. It's been too long already - trying and failing. A market is ultimately dictated by demand, it's not where it needs to be right now.
@einseitig33913 ай бұрын
Genius. They are looking at solid state batteries provided by QuantumScape with ranges over 800 km/miles as their unique selling proposition. Allied to 10/15 minute top ups and with low fire combustibility such a vehicle will in many instances out perform their petrol equivalents. Porsche will be the first within VW to utilize these solid state batteries so as to justify the (outrageous) cost of their vehicles. My advice is to buy (second hand) the old Taycans based on lithium ion as the new vehicles are announced, who knows they may offer a solid state replacement.
@harmony31383 ай бұрын
Quite right, solid state batteries provided by QuantumScape with ranges over 800 km/miles, would be a really good - a quantum leap. But considering how long Porsche takes to test thoroughly before they get something out, it would be towards the end of this decade. You only have to look at Macan EV, to see how long it took them to bring this new model out, when it was expected much earlier. For Cayenne electric, they will still be using their same PPE platform, and expected to be released in 2026. Yes, 'expected', so don't hold your breadth :) BMW are also on to solid state batteries, and if I'm not wrong, they also expect it to be in their cars towards 2030. Considering all of that, I decided to go for the new Macan EV, and as I said in my other comment It's got pretty good range.

I test drove a Bentayga today as I was heavily considering trading my Taycan for one (can’t stand Porsche anymore). It felt sluggish and was nowhere near as smooth as I thought. It would be much better as an EV, but it is truly sad how the only people holding back EVs are sports car worshipping idiots, and social media has made their voice much, MUCH louder than it should be
