FWIW and my small experience with this optic. I wanted to try one of these out with a magnifier behind it. Having 2 diopters to adjust it can be a little aggravating setting up the focus. I ended up with a compromise. Without magnification the reticle is slightly out of focus. Which is how a red dot would appear to my eyes anyway. With the G45 magnifier flipped up the reticle is completely clean. I will also say if you run a 16" AR10 with 147 grain 7.62 ball and sight in it at 50 yards like they recommend, the holdovers to 400 work really well.

Answer is yes. Prisms are better than red dots. Etched reticles will always reign supreme. Unfortunately the 1X reticle is kinda small. The 3x is a bit much zoom for inside the house. So the 2x prism is what I would consider my do it all optic choice. Especially considering I have a bad astigmatism.
@ARFCOMReviews24 күн бұрын
The only push back I will give on that is when in used with NVGs or magnifiers on the fly, red dots are still more flexible and don't require diopter adjustments when going between use cases

@@ARFCOMReviewsI will agree with that. But in reality only 1% of the population of that is using NV. So for the common man. Prisms win in my book. I’d say if you want zoom. Go LPVO. So I’m doing a build. Calling it “the last ar”. As in, the last ar I’ll build or buy till I retire (in @6 years). Using what I consider good to “best” tier components. So far I’ve racked up @ $2k in cost. The final element(s) is the optics. The build certainly suggests EOTECH, Aimpoint, or maybe top tier SIG. But I keep coming back to SHTF, end of world type scenarios (don’t know why…..) and while an Aimpoint or SIG RD will last 10s of 1000s of hours, a micro prism will run without batts if need be. When I say I’ve been debating this (as I save my final pennies) I mean I’ve been researching and going back n forth for the last 2+ months. Would love some YT opinions.
@ARFCOMReviews27 күн бұрын
I think the eotech only makes sense if you are wanting top teir NVG performance, other than that it fails in a lot of critical places for SHTF and even regular day time shooting compared to Aimpoint's offerings. I do the prisms offer the most in SHTF performance unless you plan to run a rather high end LPVO, but magnified optics start making less sense the shorter barrels get.

I have one of the SLx 3x prisms on an old school carry handle AR build but man the eye relief is so bunk. I think that Vortex and Primary Arms both make a pretty solid 3X magnifier that should pair well with this. Obviously the EOtech and Aimpoint ones are nice too, they are just a million dollars 😅

Wish they would make these in a common battery like AA/AAA or even CR123. Or just a plain etched version without power
@ARFCOMReviews26 күн бұрын
I think a solar powered one or a AAA like you mentioned would be pretty cool
@lanejohnson765625 күн бұрын
CR2032 is a ridiculously common, affordable and easily accessible battery. Widely used in illuminated scopes and extremely light and compact. Very long lasting in a PA micro prism, especially with shake awake. CR2032’s are just as common and easily accessible as AA’s and AAA’s… lol Putting a larger battery in them totally defeats their primary selling point. Small, compact and light. My old Burris 5x prism is several times bigger and far heavier than my SLX 3x and it runs on a CR2032. You put a AA, AAA or a CR132 in them and they will no longer be light micro prisms. Lol

I love Prisms, my absolute favorite. I have both Primary Arms and Vortex Prisms, it's so small to have such a tremendous etched reticle. I've taken both 556 and 762x39 out to 600yds with them (556 being much easier, obviously). Point is, it's small, it's precise, and the only downside is eye relief, so mount it comfortably and enjoy. Huge fan, just buy one. Ebay is a great option for the used market.

For what they are, theyre good. But having bought an slx a few months ago and having qc issues rendering the sight unmountable in anything but the stock spacer, it left a poor impression. Ended up buying a romeo 4t pro and couldnt be happier. Made strictly in China has a stigma to it, and in my experience, its usually correct...not as bad as it used to be, but still less than stellar.

@nemoexnuqual364317 күн бұрын
@ my brother abuses the hell out of his Monstrum and the damn thing won’t loose zero. Granted the zero stickers are backwards and it was a pain to zero but it holds every bit as well as my vortex. I ended up getting two Monstrum prisms myself for the varmint rifles. I doubt they would work with night vision but let’s be honest, few of us have the money for more than the cheap digital handhelds anyway.

@@BobbyG240 For me, some red dots are worse than others. An MRO and most 20mm dots being horrible, but the holosun EPS and 509T aren't bad. Did you try the prism with a magnifier?
@ARFCOMReviews27 күн бұрын
We did and lost the footage 😅 but it worked okay. The only consideration that sucks a bit is having to get both diopters to work together, if you're running a magnifier I would stick with a red dot or go to an LVPO.

Vortex needs more prism offerings, especially in 1x. The Spitfire 1x is great for an AR. It's far too high for anything else. I have both a Spitfire AR 1x and the Primary Arms SLX 1x micro in green, and the PA beats the pants off the Vortex for versatility, reticle, battery life, etc. It's just too damn tall. It doesn't natively mount to a carry handle out of the box, or have 7 different mounting height choices like the Primary Arms offering, either. That dual circle + dot reticle is just a bit too busy as well. I love Vortex for everything else, but the entire category of 1x or low power fixed magnification prism scopes goes to Primary Arms I posted this as a reply, but i think it deserves its own comment.

@@ARFCOMReviews Isn't there a downside that you really can't use a magnifier with the 1x because it's a "prism" and not a red dot. That doing so makes the sight picture not useable?
@mattk682728 күн бұрын
@@ecobasetech4558 I thought people who tried this approach were placing the magnifier reverse of the prism, ie out front instead of behind. Haven't tried myself and if trying to use a magnifier in front (between eye/prism) you'd have to try and dial both in to focus. Putting the magnifier second (eye, prism, mag, target) you're not magnifying the dot at all. Still kinda funky but may work. Still need to try a holo in person (locals didn't have one in stock). Tried a couple red dots, holosun and romeo 5, no bueno with astigmatism. Sucks. The holosun was a little better. The 1x prism looks promising with the etched reticle but if the holo works out, rather have a standard mag/holo combo for options to switch back and forth without dicking with lpvo and short eye relief.
