Honestly imo a screen like this is not really worth it The only screens that i consider worth it (imo) are screens that are either small and low quality or large but high quality examples: 3.5" tft screen (can be used for very simple projects) 7" lcd screen (Can be used for both big and small projects such as a teleprompt or a monitor for a pi in general) 10" + oled screens (Perfect for portable pi's) as for improving the experience Not all distros are great at this but imo gnome or kde work great Helpful advice for those who want to buy screens Some waveshare screens require custom cmd lines so try to avoid those screens Otherwise have fun recompiling kernels to add support for it Hope that helps

We need touch screen support, but eventually on a smaller 5 inch screen as a Pinephone alternative for Linux computing. There so many screens on the market. It is helpful to have a review about these touch screen devices, and it is good to know that they work with Raspberry Pi's and it is good to know with which OS they work. Other reviewers reported that they had problems with certain screens and Raspberry Pi. Thanks for the review. It is helpful.

I think it depends what you need them for. For like smart home display it might be worth it. You can organize your displays in tabs and switch between them using a touchscreen. If I got it correctly, you can mount a pi zero 2W to this screen (~20€/20$). So you can basically make a simply display out of it for your smart home. What I found is that you can get 7'' touchscreen without much problem for around 50€ (I am from Germany, but 1$ is close to 1€ at the moment, I think ;-)) . So quite cheap but tiny as well. But price increases rapidly when you aim for a 10'' touchscreen. I haven't seen anything here below 100€. For a capacitive touchscreen, the price of this one is probably actually where it starts. You can easily spend more than 200€. I might go for the 12'' version combined with pi zero 2w in the smart home which I plan to set up. It simply display the smart home dashboard/ visualisation

Is the monitor still fine after 1 year?

It's a shame there isn't yet a touch-optimized version of Raspberry Pi OS

That would be pretty nice to see sometime!

@@wimaxitofficial Wow! much appreciated! But I honestly think that this one is the responsibility of the Raspberry Pi foundation. If it's native to the system, there would be no need for hacks etc.

Does the monitor support portrait mode for both display and touch with the Raspberry Pi? I use this type of monitor all the time for home automation and other wall mounted displays and would like to know if this one supports a vertical orientation.

These now works with pi 4 but I put mine in a case and i like the case would like to have one of these but would like to have a cover on the back of the monitor. Maybe I would be better off just getting a small monitor. . It is a shame due to it looks nice and is now a lover price on amazon.

Could I use this as external monitor for my DSLR camera
@Lukes-Tech2 жыл бұрын
If it has used HDMI I would think so. This screen does require external power as well though.

I use a regular 24" Dell touchscreen monitor with my Raspberry Pi and never had any problems with getting it to work so I am not sure why anyone would need something that is Pi specific. I ended up using it to create a basic home kiosk. At the 24" size, it is easily viewable from anywhere in the house and since it has touchscreen, it is easy for the kids to interact with to add notes, update the grocery list, adjust calendar notifications or simply browse the web. I made a quick video to demonstrate the capabilities; Let me know what you think! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX6qn5uwqaaLaKssi=itiA81z7RfGdHsRC
