A few years ago, i forgot and left my motorcycle helmet on a coffeeshop chair. Went grocery shopping for about an hour and only then realised i forgot my helmet. Rushed back to the coffeeshop and saw 2 uncles (who were initially drinking beer at a table beside me) sitting on my table. When they saw me approaching, one of them said "ahhh. Forget your helmet right? Becareful ah next time, you lucky we here". Drunk uncles W, i love Singapore hahah

As a local Singaporean, I commend you for the bravery, locals do not usually put their wallets, phones to 'chope' tables as though there is a low risk, there is still a possibilty of it being taken. leaving the macbook in a cafe however is less rare as people tend to leave such items when they are studying to go to the bathroom, so they tend to return quickly. leaving your cash out on the table however, is an easy way of it getting swiped off and dropping cash on the floor is anyone's game as there is no concrete proof that the cash belongs to you. as for leaving your wallet out by your back pocket, i dont think ive ever gotten my items stolen through such a method. it could just be me, but i feel singaporeans do not really like to touch other people? as in brush up against them or bump into people. so the likelyhood of that happening is relatively low as well ^^" the part where you left your wallet/ cash got me a little nervous. aside from that i think singapore is relatively safe. as you have described. low crime doesnt mean no crime though, please becareful out there ^^/

I've once accidentally left my wallet on the table at a Kopitiam. I was already on the way to take the train when i realised my wallet was missing. Went back to the Kopitiam table that I sat at and there was no wallet to be found. Went to the management and they were not aware of any missing wallets. Then i went back to the MRT station to ask if anyone had informed them of a missing wallet. They said they will get back to me if they are informed. I went back home and sometime in the evening, the officers at the train station called me and informed me someone had dropped my wallet off to them and i was glad nothing was stolen!

Many years ago, there was a pregnant lady with a toddler in a shopping trolley. She needed to use the bathroom badly. I offered to keep an eye on her baby girl. Initially, she was hesitant. I took out my wallet and told her to hold on to my identity card if she didn't trust me. The whole time she was in the cubicle, I assured her that I was STILL outside by chatting with her little one. I believe if I were in a similar situation, I would appreciate someone looking out for me too! :)

pumpkinsparks9224 may be suggesting that there might be a chance that a girl might be interested in a guy but may be shy to reach out to the guy. Hence, "accidentally" leaving behind an item for the guy to spot the item and return it to her. This will create a natural meeting scene and may also help her to gauge some of the guy's qualities such as honesty, keen eye to detail, helpful, friendly etc.

Laptop is too huge to take away in public, so it should be totally safe. Wallet is also too big. It is super strange for someone to put cash on the table, so the chance of being taken away is there. If the money is no the floor, quite likely whoever finds it will keep it cos u won't be able to know who dropped it unless u saw with your eyes. That being said, my dad misplaced his handphone twice and got them back on both occasions. However, my niece left her laptop inside the toilet cubicle and someone took it away. Once I was very tired as I had insomnia and all I wanted was to withdraw $200+ and then rush home to nap. And when you withdraw from ATM, your card will come out first before your cash. Because I wasn't focused, I just took my card and leave, while my cash came out 3 seconds later. And the dude who was behind me raised his voice "Bro! What's wrong with you"..His choice of word wasn't the kindest, but clearly his heart is. I guess he felt pressured thinking of how troublesome it is having to hold onto the cash and return it to the police if I walked away and didn't return. Ghib dont ask for trouble... Usually if i see expensive stuff left, i just think the person is very careless. Also if someone dropped something it is best to return it. So unto others what you want done to you

no one put money to chope seat la...only see people chopped with company pass. There's theft in SIngapore. I drop my bus card on bus floor then a man stepped on it until i step on his feet

Singapore is safe, but not 100% safe。

I’m not sure if the pickpocket social experiment is a valid one. With a camera person following you and your narration, it’s a bit hard for a pickpocket to take action on your wallet or cash from your back pocket.😅

Generally places like cafes or any proper store in Singapore has cctv so singaporeans know that even if they lost something they can just go to the store and request for footage 😊

i dont know i feel that the situation in Singapore now is different from 15 years ago. Last time, if you leave ur phone /wallet in toilet or somewhere, chances are it is gone. But now chances are it will just be untouched. I cant say that it is exactly about honesty, but just about how crowded Singapore is, and there are too many eyes around. People are also scared of being camera or video......To add on....devices like iphone/macbook, you cant do much even if you take them in Singapore......their mac addresses / imei can be reported......etc.

Singapore is safe & its people are honest. Those who steal or snatch your belongings are foreigners who came here to commit crimes. Most of them have been put into bars. Kudos to us Singaporeans 😄😄
Those uncles at Block 531 are regulars, so no problem

You are very brave to use $50 to chope a seat

low risk doesnt mean no risk man... usually if you head to more non-city area, those auntie or uncle especially "kiasu" ones will just grab and go whats on the floor or table.. trust me
Quite difficult for criminals to commit crimes since a camera is stalking around. Our flower plants along the corridor at our house at Chinatown were plucked 'botak' by people. Our shoes and clothes were stolen while hanging along corridor to dry. My MRT Card and $10 note in a plastic slot went missing at a MRT station. Went back to search but couldn't find them. A few months ago, my safety shoes in a shoe box were left outside for a day. Nothing happened. The next day, they were gone. My friend's $1k plus bicycle was chain-locked outside the flat, also got stolen. So Singapore is not so safe at all.

.... you know, if that happened to me, I won't be worried about random pickpockets, I'd be asking which neighbour do you have a grudge with...

you are probably a difficult person to live with hence people target you.

I think nowadays people lost the items are usually from taking taxi , not talking about grab but about flag down taxi.

I recently dropped my wallet on a bus and did not even realise. Luckily a kind lady picked it up and returned it to me.

Singaporeans in general won't take other people's stuff....regardless what it is. But I will say even so, we cannot guarantee taking away valuable belonging does not exists. In conclusion, put invaluable items is still better to chope seats
