I love single player, I love stories, and I love characters. Online multiplayer games are just so boring to me, because they're all ultimately the same. Not every game is the same, but each one functions the same. I really enjoyed Overwatch for about two months, which is the longest I've played online multiplayer since Halo Reach came out. But like I said earlier, to me it's all about stories and characters. I get why Fortnite doesn't really have a campaign mode (still sucks), but Overwatch? It doesn't make any sense. There is already a cast of unique characters who each have backstories! They should release a DLC, and I think that even if it is just each character has one 'origin' sort of level, it would kill. They don't even have to do much writing, just develop the preexisting stories into a level.

Regardless of being open world RPGs, Cyberpunk and Rage are FPS titles 100%. If you don’t count those, you may as well exclude Metro Exodus too. (While not doing too hot) BFV will still have singleplayer, the COD after this one will too. The eventual Borderlands 3. There’s likely others I’m forgetting, and almost guaranteed to be ones we don’t know about yet.
i miss playing fps stories. it mostly brings back memories of when i was younger and thinking they were amazing stories (admittedly lots of them are trash, but still fun) if its a money issue theres plenty of little things they can change that'll give them more money and since theres lots the money will grow quickly. I think of bo3 my guess is that the main screen/home screen didn't cost that much to make but lets be honest, did we need it? couldn't a static picture or something like that work? Also if games like battlefront and cod would stop adding in state changing items to loot boxes they'd make lots of money. Look at siege, no one cares about the alpha packs because they don't give you exclusive operators or guns or equipment or anything, just skins and bobbleheads. they need to appeal to the completionist group of people who want every bit of content. I can live without having a special camo, in fact if theres one i want ill probably spend money trying to get it. if theres stat changing stuff I refuse, even if theres something I want. sadly lootboxes are the only way for devs to make sure they make enough money to keep games running now because even though triple A titles still make millions even hundreds of millions and are far beyong breaking even, the gap is too close in the business world compared to how it use to be

Developers seem to think that people only care for multiplayer only, therefore they don't put single player in the game. That is just not true, there are many people out there that like to play single player games for the story and when they are down they go into online portion. While there are some who just only play the game for Single Player and don't care for the online and I don't see anything wrong with that, its their choice and not the developers. I remember when EA said that "Nobody plays Single Player Games" they are being biased because they are many games that have great stories and people still play the game for the story and then they will want to try the online part. The point is developers need to stop being biased of what they think people play the most because that is just going to prevent other people who only want to play the game just for story mode.
@mattjohnston26 жыл бұрын
Oh, they KNOW that single player is wanted by us, but it's a money thing. It costs way less to make an online only game (especially if it's not the first of a series), and it creates a steady revenue that makes up for the loss of customers that are only interested in the campaign.

That's what I don't like about this current era of gaming. Most of the games are becoming pay2win, and as someone who can't buy stuff online I feel like it's really annoying as other people are having the full experience while I'm stuck here with my original one which should have had the full experience. Also the trend about going all digital is also a problem, because I still can't buy things online. I'm pretty sure that if games go 100% digital they will lose at least 25% of the revenue. Another topic is what Falcon is talking about here which is "No Single Player" which is really annoying because we can't get those ghost and cpt price memories again, furthermore the membership of people might run out which leaves them with nothing to do on the game as there is no single player, but only multiplayer. If it goes this way then I think that all the memberships should be free so we can have what we spent our money on non-stop! Let me know what you think.

I think there can be a healthy space with both multiplayer and singleplayer FPS games and their campaigns. I think Halo accomplished this fine, though I can't say anything about the recent Halo games, as I haven't played them. However, as long as games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Skyrim, Borderlands, etc. still live on, single player FPSes will never die.

Call of Duty 4 is just lazy it takes time money and effort to make a campaign mode what is good. But for multiplayer rinse and repeat and slap a couple of maps what takes them a couple of months to make. Zombie mode the same thing. Yeah i play a lot of Paladins. So I really enjoy MP. But CoD dropping campaign is unacceptable. Especially keeping full price AND a season pass that's full price? No way. And going by PSN and XBL trophies/Achievements more ppl finished campaign than hit level 10 in MP. Additionally there's no way it took 3-4 years to develop. They scrapped something and this is what we are left with. AND ITS ALL STILL FULL PRICE WITH A SEASON PASS. It still is outselling BFV in preorders by far too. Guess that's what happens when you shit on your audience irl.

I'm not a huge FPS player, but I almost play narrative-heavy games exclusively, with Telltale games, and David Cage games being amonsts my favorites. BioWare during the ME1 & ME2 era (also played way too much KoTOR and Jade Empire) also held some of my fondest memories in gaming. That said, I skipped the new Battlefront, and got Battlefront II on sale and exclusively played the campaign (which I thought was nearly good, definitely could've been fleshed out more). I just prefer being in another world surrounded by characters rather than people, and that's mainly because I'm not that competitive, and I find people suck, especially anonymous online people - there are too many toxic communities.

I liked Diablo II's implementation of their campaign. They allowed for players to engage in offline play for the campaign but also allowed for multiplayer games, for co-op modes. You could take your offline characters to the online world and interact with others. This was great when you couldn't play online. There are simply times when my network goes down and nothing I do on my side will ever fix that. Granted, Diablo II had its own issues with hackers but those issues can be addressed without causing offline players from being prevented from playing the game. Since so many games do not have an offline mode, I can't even play many of them without an always on connection. Some games need an online connection, like World of Warcraft but I don't see why I need it for others.

Online Co-op campaign is the answer
@housemouseshorts6 жыл бұрын
You would think so yes.. However if you do that then everything needs to be balanced around coop.the enmeys will now be too hard to kill solo or too easy to kill as a group..Look no further than Path of exile for exsamples. Very few people play said game in a party. As POE is a brutal case of this. the game is challenging solo..but theres also an opotential party system..The problem being with more then one person the game becomes a cake walk...Grinding Gear Games trys to fix this by making the monsters stronger and increasing loot drops,if you have more players..however the stonger monsters only really kicks in if you have over 2 or 3 people..at which point bosses become impossible to defeat either due to spawning very powerful adds way to many enmeys or becoming bullet sponges that party wipe in one hit...The loot drops are a problem because 90% of loot in the game is vendor trash. This is the problem with balancing a game around coop. You can't have both without serous problems arising.

I have been on the trend for online games to play with friends, as well as meet new ones, that have a competitive nature but truly have casual-esk playibility. Co-op games like the Borderlands series has been one of the greatest accomplishments for crossing these two concepts together. Gather a few friends and enjoy hours of deep story line.

Also I agree, it should be a complete game at launch, the game was terrible and should have died, but I’m glad that Siege does exist! I feel like as the gaming industry got bigger and bigger the competitive scene thrived, and gaming was open to more people who never experienced a game. The flashiness of competitive gaming and esports attracted a lot of people who never experienced an actually good non-competitve game. The decrease in PC prices also helped open the market to everyone. This is most true after Fortnite released. Yes it is a good and fun game but because it attracted new people to gaming, those new people never saw how beautiful an offline game can get. My friends, for example, never touched a game in their lives (except maybe LOL for a little bit) and when they saw Fortnite and they became obsessed with it and it's competitiveness. My friends now only play one or two games that are competitive and that's it. I feel the rush of people into the market forced companies to akcnowldge that the focus on gaming is now competitive. Yes esports do bring ligitmacy to gaming but it also destroys the artistic part of it and only makes companies focus on delivering a competitive game. This transition from good, creative and artistic game design to this bs of competitiveness, I feel, will hinder the production of good games that are not good because of its competitiveness. Tell me, when is the last time that you see an artistically beautiful or creatively enjoyable game that is not an indie game? Maybe it's nostalgia when I was playing flash games or when I was playing the downloadable SpongeBob games but I still feel like the rapid expansion of the market and inclusion of young kids and normies who never touched a good game before is destroying games. The only good games now are indie games or RPGs

IMO single player should always be an option. It keeps people with the game when they can't access the online feature, either because of their connect being bad, their service temporarily ran out, etc. Plus the single player campaign, is basically the whole story, the background, the lore (to me) of the whole game. If people want certain things in multiplayer (unlocks, skins, etc), then they should make it so you have ti unlock it by playing single player. Like BF4 and certain guns/tags. To me, call of duty had some of the best campaigns. 1. Because at the time, they were set in relatively modern times, with possible outcomes in any war. Then that changed when it got more futuristic, but when it started it was like "oh, this could probably actually be the future of war fighting." 2. Because when you play the call if duty campaign you WERE the soldier, those were your comrades. With multiplayer, you just another cog, and once you die, that's fine you're just a "different" cog. And most of the time your teammates weren't your comrades, just people that knew, most likely didnt know, what the hell they were doing.
