@60cyclehum I got to play with Gary Hoey on stage when he did a seminar at Guitar Workshop+ that I was so fortunate to go to in Whistler! He was an amazing man to chat with and I wish I could talk to him now, being the guitar nerd I am, but he was so amazing to let a bunch of us to come up on stage and play with him! :)

I picked up a Starcaster distortion at Target on clearance several years ago for ~$25 and I actually quite like it.

Target has some sleepers back in the 2000's. My acoustic I got from my sister that I play all the time was a Target sale purchase.

FUN FACT I have a rare Starcaster DELAY pedal, which was never released to stores. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpeUfGSElpykgNk&t= (perks of having a dad who worked at fender) It was even in the blister pack and everything!

I picked up a Starcaster distortion at Target really cheap several years back and I quite like it. I guess it’s a Metalzone variation. I like the controls.

It is a Metalzone. The Chorus is a CE-5. Some shortcuts, unbuffered, not True Bypass, but not bad stuff.

I have one on my pedal board and I don't use it for crunch. I only use it for parametric EQ. Works great for that. I don't like the distortion on it. They work best in the fx loop.

I got one, the case is steel and very strong, I found some good settings and a fuzz sounding setting.

Dangit! I remember seeing these pedals back in the day and passing for the same reason as you, Ryan. Now, since watching this video and watching odd demos from the dark ages of KZbin, I bought one on eBay for $38 plus shipping. It’s apparently a Metal Zone clone, which is a-okay. I’ve never owned a Metal Zone, so I’ll add it to the repertoire. That big piece of real estate around the switch looks like it’s begging for some kind of mod. I saw a circuit bender video, which does seem interesting. We shall see.

I loved the starcaster series. I genuinely think the chorus is one of the best I've ever played. In fact, I broke one trying to rehouse it and missed it enough to buy another.

I got one of these for the heck of it and I'm pretty sure it's a metalzone. Sounds like crap in the front and sounds awesome plugged straight into the power amp

Really awesome tones through both! Who needs big heavy stacks of gear when you can do this with a Princeton!!! Dont pedal much, but would play with either one of those for hours when nobody else was listening. I identify as classic and southern roc, just metal curious.

24:00 I had this UFO guitar 30 years ago. It never stayed in tune and sounded so twangy. I traded it for a cheap pedal back in the day. Seen it on reverb for $600. Chuckled seeing it had a dedicated case seeing as it sounded horrible.

First visit to AliExpress, pedal was $17... Each day later, the price increased... $23, $34, $40... So, I didn't visit the site or open emails for 30 days. Just picked it up for $12.

Why are they so expensive? Because they're on reverb, duh. Anything that even looks like a good price on there, check out the shipping and it becomes the same price as the ones with free shipping.

Honestly gotta disagree, these pedals absolutely scream Y2K era aesthetic-wise just not necessarily for the pedal world at the time. They kinda remind me of “frutiger aero,” especially the chorus pedal from this line in that lime green color

This “certified pre own” thing from Fender feels like a “ factory scam” that competes with small retailers, ti me. Things like this drives people away from Fender effectively i think ..
