Thankfully your MG4 has the correct charge port location for Tesla Supercharging 😅

Yes my MG4 has it's charge port in the same location as Tesla EVs so that makes using Tesla Superchargers much easier

I plan my NSW Pacific highway trips around where the all-access Tesla superchargers are for these reasons. The one issue I've had is when the mobile phone signal is poor (e.g. Thrumster) or nonexistent, as using the Tesla app is the only way to commence a charge session for non-Tesla vehicles. It also affects the crappy Tritium NRMA chargers at the same location (no RFID or plug 'n' charge option).

That Thrumster location is a challenging spot for charging, I'll try and let Tesla know though they are notoriously hard for media to contact. I wish all EV charging networks supported RFID card or plug and Autocharge based on car ID like Evie

I was at the Yass supercharger just before midnight on Saturday (by ourselves, no other EVs present), this thankfully is in a pub car cark and the pub staff were really friendly re toilet use, we ended up buying some drinks as a thank you. Honestly it is so much easier driving through the night with 2 or 3 drivers during the holidays

Personally I'd advise viewers to drive during the day unless absolutely necessary. Driving during dawn, dusk and night time is when you're most likely to have crashes with animals on roads

The only issue I've experianced was at Knockrow when there was an area blackout, which of couse was impacting anyone in the area. I like the Tesla ones too, as its such a low chance of a queue given the amount of chargers. I avoid any travel on holiday periods if I can. Also the large amount of chargers and non-tritum means broken changers are less frequent and even if one or two are offline, there will be one working chager. For me, travel between home in sydney and my inlaws house on the mid north coast is now stress free thanks to the Tesla ones at Raymond Terrace, Taree and Port Mac.

Glad to hear you've had a positive experience with open access Tesla Superchargers along NSW coast North of Sydney, another frequent viewer Alex has told me the same thing

Thanks for the great video. I’m not sure if you’ve done a review of your MG4 Long Range. I would be interested in your opinion. Especially highway driving and actual range.

Getting my new ioniq 5 soon. With the charge port on the ioniq being on the opposite side to the Tesla, are the charge cables long enough to reach? Can you get an extension cable that will make this easier? Just curious how easy or hard it is to charge a non Tesla vehicle with the charge port on the wrong side. thanks

Tesla Superchargers are excellent but there are some caviats.. A minor point is that Tesla V3 Superchargers don't charge at the optimum rate on some 800V Architecture vehicles. For example the BYD Seal will charge at about 110kW rather than 150kW (vehicle maximum below 65% SoC). Overall this doesn't have a huge impact as it only results in a few minutes difference. One other point is that V3 Superchargers have short cables and can not often reach charging ports on the drivers side rear. Owners need to occupy the bay beside the one they plan to use, thus blocking out 2 spots. These issues are all resolved in the V4 Superchargers now being delivered.

Good points Campbell. I have a separate video to publish later about a situation where I came across a supercharger where two bays were blocked by a car with an awkwardly located charge port

Yes, no brainer for me on road trips, will always target Superchargers that are open to non teslas . 1 - unmatched reliability, 2 - No of stalls, 3 - idle fees to keep spaces turning over in busy periods. Many people will complain about the costs, but these reasons alone are worth it, and if using a lot, you can purchase a monthly subscription to bring the cost down to the same as Tesla owners.
@NeeravBhatt11 күн бұрын
Agreed on all points Mal. I'll have to do a separate video later about how good idle fees are

I generally avoid them, especially in SA where the RAA network is just so good and cheaper. Of course, not gonna lie, having Tesla as a fallback or only option is fantastic - they should all be open to all cars.
@NeeravBhatt11 күн бұрын
Unfortunately we cannot all live in South Australia . RAA and WA EV Networks are the best state government / motoring association owned funded charging networks in Australia

@@NeeravBhatt I was just trying to remember how many times I Tesla charged on my recent pure EV lap and subsequent Tassie trip - out of the 70 or 80 DC charges, I think I only used Tesla at Rockhampton and then north of Bundaberg, oh and also Warrnambool and a bunch at Narooma, NSW. So that's less than 10 times! Pretty good hey!
