I recently reread Dune Messiah for the first time in many years. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was gripping. I loved the Duncan Idaho ghola. He's a hugely compelling character. So is Alia. Arrakis in the sequel is fleshed out and fascinating. It's just great. A very different kind of story from Dune but I love both.

Yes, I agree, different but just as brilliant in many ways.

I have read them all ages ago. They are very heavy in dialogue. I got started after I watched that old Dune movie by De Laurentus? in the late 80's. It was a well made production but the story line was incredibly hard to make sense of. Well, it made no sense. So I went to the library to borrow the novel to understand the movie and realised there was a series of novels on Dune. So I read them one after the other.

That Lynch/DeLaurentiis movie was something else, I still enjoy watching it from time to time but I have to say I prefer the new one. Above all, the Books are where it's at for me, I just can't see the movies capturing all of what makes Dune a great series.

Excellent synopsis ✅ Spoilers Below 👇 with a few things i enjoyed. Conspiracy: A group including the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild, and the Tleilaxu plot to dethrone Paul. They aim to regain control of the spice and break Paul's religious hold on the universe. The Ghola: They introduce a ghola of Duncan Idaho, Paul's deceased friend and swordmaster, to try and manipulate him. This ghola, Hayt, struggles with his recovered memories and loyalty. Thank you kindly, definitely a whole lot to like in this one too.I mentioned in the review, I find reading all the sequels really helps you appreciate the overall brilliance of Dune. I wish you a great weekend and I hope you find some time to relax and read.

I really love the first four Dune novels. It’s been decades since I’ve read Dune Messiah.

It had been a long time for me too Chris, I recommend rereading it, I surely enjoyed again after such a long hiatus. I'm looking forward to rereading the others, and who knows, I may even get to the prequels by B. Herbert/Kevin J Anderson this time around. I've never read those.

I really liked Dune Messiah, its conspiratorial plot keeps you ticking along through the relatively short page count and there are some devastating moments. Great video as always sir!

Thank you for the kind comment, yes, well said. The conspiratorial plot is the main focus of this one, and I did enjoy it as well, and it true Herbert fashion, he covered some interesting ideas.
