The running back situation of the past two years is going to happen to receivers, and with the hip drop rule running backs will come back into fashion quickly (especially RB’s like Derrick Henry, or Jonathan Allen). I don’t see the same thing happening as much with CB’s simply because there are less great CB’s in the league thus supply and demand. Thanks in part to CB being the hardest position to play in the league.

I think people forget why the packers had to take edge round 1 frequently in recent years. We lost Mathews and Perry was an absolute bust. We signed the smith bros because we literally had no edge room and had to build it from the ground up. Edge in the first or second round this year is the dumbest take I’ve ever seen especially with how our current edge room contracts align. Outside of QB edge is the most expensive contract on the books and the packers rebuilt this room having one guy on a second expensive contract and another guy on a rookie deal. After Preston smith gets cut next year it seems like they’ll want to follow this edge room model moving forward. For the sake of this conversation, let’s say the packers take an edge round 1 or 2 this year. They’re gonna waste a premium pick on a guy who’ll get roughly 20% of the snaps; not just this year, but for the duration of LVN and Gary’s concurrent contracts. Furthermore, let’s say LVN and this round 1 - 2 edge is worthy of a big pay day; there’s no way in hell the packers are paying big money to two edge rushes the same year or a year apart. Look around the league and show me any nfl rosters that are paying QB1, EDGE 1&2 at the same time. Too expensive; so why would the packers set themselves up for that in 4 years?

They clowned you, because they’re still on the running backs, and trying to devalue them for the owners, before they moved onto the receivers. By the way, if you look at all the mainstream Talking Heads for Green Bay they were discussing the receivers just like they were discussing the running backs last year just like Peter is discussing them now in 2020 and 21 even as late as 2022 before they switched over to the running backs. Same stuff. They grow on trees. Rather have three decent ones that produce the same amount as one elite one. This is a product of the evolution of the game due to college schemes. Every year they just flip-flop, because the rich want to save more of their money.

The WR conversation is interesting. I say draft one every year. When Watson and Doubs are up for contracts, trade em and we'll still have Wicks, Reed and Melton. We will also have two more drafts to add to the room. This year is so deep at WR if Brian Thomas Jr drops to #25 I'd take him. If McConkey or Lagette are there at #58 you might take them. It's not good to pay a WR over $20 million a year. We are in a unique situation where we don't have to if we keep filling up the WR room with young dynamic guys. If you have an elite QB (I think we do) you can just keep the WR room young and inexpensive for a long time. CB is a different story, we've taken high picks every year and failed more often than not. I say we need to get two or three later in the draft and hope we hit on one. The only high CB pick that has been worth it is Alexander. The last before him was Newsome. That's a big time span and a ton of misses. We always pick in the 20s every year, that's always the 4th or 5th CB every time. I say take a guy that's the best at his position and address CB later.

It’s still a year or 2 too early for this in my opinion. The packers already don’t have enough snaps to go around. Watson and doubs still have 2 years on the contract, wicks and Reed with 3, so you don’t need a future successor quite yet. You’re probably resigning at least 1 of doubs and Watson and also wicks/Reed. They could wait awhile to invest early and would be justified in doing so.

@@AdamB34 well you’re completely down on the group and sounds like it’s an opinion without fact. Watson is one of the most explosive players when healthy and on the field. I guess the 10 TDs his rookie year and big impact and plays he made in games against KC or Detroit last year mean nothing and is considered trash. Meanwhile wicks was the best in the nfl at creating separation last year and looks to be a late round steal, while Reed is probably a better version of Cobb. I mean Love was just 2nd in the league in the TDs dude lol this group has the potential to be better than Davante Cobb Jordy because they also appear to be 2 deep at TE and have a running back. Davante Jordy and Cobb only played together as a group with Rodgers for 2 seasons because of injuries, and love already put together a stretch with the new group as good as any.
@AdamB34
@AdamB34 26 күн бұрын
@@Matt-yq3gq how is it an opinion without fact exactly? - They didn't have a single receiver in the top 40 for yards last year and None of their wrs project as a true #1. - Doubs led the entire nfl in drop% in 2022 and had drop issues again last year. He doesn't produce enough to overlook that like we can overlook it for Ja'Marr Chase. - Watson did have NINE total tds in 2022 but 8 of those tds came in one 4 game stretch lol. 5 came in back to games. There's more than 4 games in a season homie. What did he do in the other 10 games in 2022? 298 receiving yards and 0 receiving tds 😂... He's also one of the worst route runners in the nfl and almost exclusively just runs flys and slants. That's why he rarely has more than 3 catches in a game, because he lacks route versatility. If he's not going deep or running a slant, he has nothing. He's had over 3 catches in a game 8 times in 23 games and more than 4 just 4 times in 23 games. He's just a bigger version of Marquez Valdez-Scantling at this point. A deep threat wr with terrible route running and suspect hands. - Yes, Love had a great season. That doesn't mean his wrs are also great lol. Rodgers won 2 mvps recently with Davante and absolutely nobody else. Those mvps don't mean Allen Lazard, Geronimo Allison or MVS were good lol - Wicks is definitely a late round steal but that doesn't mean he's anything more than just an average wr. - Did you just say this group of wrs can be better than Davante, Jordy and Cobb??? 😂😂😂. Davante and Jordy were both All-Pros and Cobb was a pro bowler. I'm also not sure why you brought up injuries considering Watson is always hurt, Doubs missed 4 games in 2022 and Musgrave missed like half the season last year. The wrs on this team are closer to Cobb and James Jones than Jordy and Davante which is fine but it's just weird that you're acting like they are elite when they aren't... at least, not yet. Anything can happen of course

@@AdamB34 do you realize everything you’re saying was basically said about the other 3 you’re talking about? All those guys had slumps and drop issues. You’re purely playing the pessimistic side and using stats you can that support that while ignoring positive stats to support the other side. We can all support debates like these with facts to skew our narrative positive or negative. And either way my point, anyone on my side of this debate is you don’t need a true number 1 when you have what the packers have, and that’s also why you don’t need top 40 in yards wide receivers when everyone is contributing and they’re not so reliant on one guy or whatever other stat you want to use to say none of them are that good. Not to mention Watson does command 2 bodies or shifting coverage his way when he does play. And yeah absolutely the new group can potentially be better than those 3. This is their first season with Love and it was already good with a shit half year to start. Cobb jordy and Davante had 2 elite seasons together with one of them being an average producer in those 2 years (Adams in 14, Cobb in 16). That’s the bar, and none of these guys are even near contract extensions yet, so yeah laugh at me all you want if you think it’s absurd the new WR room has the potential to be better than those 3, while another part of point is the packers seemingly have much more weapons now than they did back then. They rode 3 great receivers and got like 1 good season from Lacy at RB and one half good year from Cook at TE. They have a higher number of overall skill players to threaten a D, so I don’t care that their top 2 or 3 weapons might end up worse than a 1-2 year previous sample size in history, when they probably have 5 other weapons beyond their starting 3 WR better than anything the packers had in the mid 2010s, and none of these guys are even in their prime yet.

Ive been thinking this,WR will become like RB as far as value. So many good WR's every year coming out. CB is gonna become such a high demand position because of offenses having 2 or 3 good receivers. What the Packers are doing will be copied by more teams if the WR talent keeps flooding the NFL. Premium positions will be OT,CB,pass rushers,QB. They already are but that's where we will see premium money go, taking a bite out of the WR market. Its just rhe evolution of the NFL. And it will continue to change. Maybe with the new tackling rules RB's become more valuable again.

He’s missed nearly half the games over the last 3 years and has increasingly gotten beat, missing tackles, or dropping INTs compared to what we saw out of a much better all pro season in 2020. In this large sample size of missed games they’ve really been no better or worse as a D, so you can say he’s essential for a great D, but the packers have never been a great D with him. A shutdown boundary corner also isn’t an absolute must for a great D. Blame scheme and the coach for his disconnect and dipping performance at times? I think anyone could reasonably do that, but he’s not much different than Christian Watson in terms of his impact and availability but at a much higher cost yet people seem to be far more concerned about the cheap WR over the highly paid mercurial CB. Now they should be even better. I’m just hoping with our new Defensive Coordinator Jeff Halfley we’re more consistent. Our defense last year was either great or terrible. There was no in between. Joe Barry was terrible at adjusting. If the other teams offense figured the defense out they were screwed every time. There were times I couldn’t believe what I was watching. I don’t see that happening again this coming season with the new Defensive Coordinator and Xavier McKinney, and we already had some good players on defense and I’m sure we’ll get a couple in the 2024 NFL draft. This WR core is more than fine, let them grow another year with JLove. They have the dudes, they all want to be no 1, let them compete. If they draft a guy fine if they don't fine. This core can win the SB. Also Guyton is not that good, project, got taken to school at Senior Bowl, hand placement awful. Needs a lot of work and no hes not better than Sheed Walker.

I would never draft an SEC OT in R1. Since 2010, they have busted at an 85% rate. It seems like every year there is an SEC OT that is "elite athleticism and movement skills" and they get drafted and are just horrible. Perfect example is Evan Neal from Alabama. He has been one of the worst OTs in the NFL since he was drafted in 2022. However, he was billed as someone like Tony Mandarich was in 1989.
