Meh they're built for playoff hockey. People overate their loss to the AVS. A lot of people were saying that the AVS/Jets was a wacky matchup. It was a coin toss of who would win, but it was clear one team was gonna dominate, just based on their very different styles of play. Sure enough jets dominate in game 1 and it flips in the other direction. It was just an odd matchup. If last year's roster went up against the 2022 Knights I bet they would have won.

@pomerlain89242 күн бұрын
Those moves did nothing to the chemistry. The team was soft last year. Toffoli and Monahan didn't cause the defense to play like hot garbage in playoffs. They didn't cause Val Nichuskin to be left all alone in front of the net. They didn't cause Hellebuyck to be off his game. They didn't cause Adam Lowry to pass up on laying out Makar in Game 4. The team is soft, especially in the top 6. No physical presence, and the Avs exposed it last year. Even on the backend, they're soft. This team does not have players built for the playoffs. Guys that can lay the body and who won't back down when facing adversity.
@pomerlain89242 күн бұрын
Until the Jets do it in the playoffs, this start doesn't mean anything. Just like Jets fans continue to think winning 52 games and allowing the fewest goals was good enough last season. EDM: They just did a horrible job in assessing their assets and managing them. Ofc Broberg is different, playing with Payreko, a great veteran D, but if remember that the Oilers traded away Kesselring against Bjugstadt they have lost 2 legit young top 4 Ds, despite having a huge need on RD. Their D could look like this: Ekholm - Bouchard Nurse - Kesselring (signed for 1,4m over this and next season) Broberg - Kulak Stecher That would be a really strong unit and they could have done it cap wise. Broberg was projected in a 1,8 -2,3m range, Holloway was projected 1,2 - 1,5m, so either Arvidsson or Jeff Skinner would not be around, but it would still look dangerous: Skinner - MCD - Hyman RNH - Drai - Holloway Janmark - Henrique - Brown Podkolzin - Ryan - Perry The Oilers just did lousy with 2 young Ds that would be so valuable for them with their subpar D, and it`s a big miss by Holland and Bowman. Should have never happened.

Losing Broberg hurt! That being said, Oil were trying to have players take team friendly contracts. Paying Broberg more than he had shown he was worth at that point, would make it really hard to ask player who did more take less. Last year Broberg had a spot on the team, he struggled it and lost the spot. Obviously I didn’t want him to go, good for him for doing well but let’s also acknowledge he didn’t play this level in Edmonton outside of the playoffs. And that was a very small sample size.
@pomerlain892420 сағат бұрын
I'm sure Draisaitl's $112M extension was team friendly. Playoffs are the best sample size you need. And Broberg was their fastest skater on the blue line, and without him, they clearly look slower. And for one of the oldest teams in the league, that's not good. Broberg was also a big reason their PK was so good.
@Squatle19 сағат бұрын
@@pomerlain8924 Broberg wasn’t in the line up the whole run, he should be fresher/faster than the others. Draisaitl’s contract is huge. When talking about the Jets, everyone talks about them often having a dip during the season, but then fail to mention they finished the season strong last year (yes yes we know the playoffs) and finished 4th overall. And they did it with one for the worse power plays and penalty kills. You don't finish 4th in the standings if you are not legit. The NHL is too good for that. If they continue with the PP and PK the way they have to start the season and maintain the strong defensive play from last year (which they have been doing) they will be legit contenders.
@pomerlain892419 сағат бұрын
How they finished the season meant nothing because of how the playoffs went. Unless they perform in the playoffs, they're not true contenders. They're pretenders. When this team faces adversity, they fold. They've lost 10 straight playoff games following a loss under two different coaches. And this core group has been here for all of it. They get hit with adversity, and they back down.

I was genuinely fuming when we let Holloway walk. Was legit gonna get his jersey after his season last year.

Crazy take, Winnipeg can still miss the playoffs, and Nashville can still end up first in the division. 82-5 = 77. Yes huuuuuuuuuuge surprise here folks but that is less than 1/16th of the season complete. So don't worry, the world isn't ending, it doesn't mean the avalanche are dog water, it doesn't even mean meth is all of a sudden a healthy alternative to table salt. It simply means the season started. Crazy how religious so many people get due to being unable to do math, follow patterns or think with the upper brain.

LOL, no. They've beaten the Sharks, Blackhawks, Penguins, Wild and a sputtering Oilers. Let's talk when they play a few teams that will actually be in the playoffs.

The Oilers made it to the scf and arguably got better on paper, yes they are struggling atm but the jets straight up dismantled them, neal pionk was shutting down mcdavid

Cope. We all know you’re one of the clowns that were saying they wouldn’t even make ploffs in the off-season 🤡

I personally think the Flames 4-0-1 start is a bit more surprising than the Jets 5-0-0. Flames have beat Canucks, Flyers, Oilers, Hawks
