Had a near death experience today. I was at the bank when two armed robbers broke in & held everybody hostage. In an act of desperation, I showed the robbers a New York Islanders game on my phone. They immediately fell asleep from extreme boredom & everybody was saved.

Kane made an interesting comment afterwards during the press questioning. Somewhat direct quote, "It's not sustainable, we focus so much on defence all the time, i'm sure we can sustain more offensive pressure....." It almost sounded like he is screaming underneath at the coaching staff to let the offence play their game and let the defensive guys play theirs. I never could understand why coaches try to fit the triangle in the square slot. NOT EVERYONE should play 100% defence. It's annoying af. Let some of the talent flourish in the offensive zone without being paranoid. I guess the back end that Stevie built is not inspiring much confidence in the coaching staff or something?

He’s right. It’s not sustainable and it’s not their defense is any good with this style anyway…. They will lose much of of these games 3-0 than they will win 1-0.

I've never forgotten this. Years ago at the very height of the dead puck era I was at a pub and the game on TV was b/n the Devils and the Islanders. I'm pretty sure that at least half of that game was played in the neutral zone. Made watching curling seem like an adrenaline rush.

Alex Lyon is a great goalie. Idk why it’s taken everyone so long to figure it out. Assuming he was gonna be goalie 3 for us at the beginning of the year is laughable. Alex Lyon is beast. I hope he continues to tear it up

In their 3 wins, Detroit has been out-shot 110-56. Thats not sustainable at all. Talbot stole a game, and Lyon stole 2.

The fact that they started Husso game 1 with Lyon in the number 3 slot is beyond me. Like he's the reason they nearly made the playoffs down the stretch last year he saved their bacon ! I get you gotta play your 5 million dollar guy but Lyon's earned it ! Go with the hot hand !

Wild are playing good defensive hockey and aren’t going to the box anywhere near what they normally do, which helps out Gus Bus who has been lights out in net. The top six is producing and there haven’t been any liabilities like last year. It’s been fun to watch, hopefully they can keep it up!

I see what you are saying, but if that is really the most boring hockey you have ever seen, then you apparently weren't watching in the mid 1990's, in the heyday of the Neutral Zone Trap. Some of those games were averaging only one or two quality scoring chances per period, for both teams combined. A lot of the rule changes made during the 2004-05 lockout were what finally fixed that. Before then, you shot the puck into the corner, and the goalie would play it right back out before you had any chance to compete for it (which today would be a penalty for a goalie playing the puck behind the line outside of the trapezoid). You try to carry the puck in, and the defense could get away with holding you up in ways that would be a two minute holding or interference penalty today. You finally get the puck in and get some pressure, and the other team either ices it to get a line change (both teams could change players after an icing call back then), or they "accidentally" played the puck out over the boards to get a breather (not a penalty at the time, unless it was so blatantly obvious that a ref was willing to call it as "intentionally" playing the puck over the boards).

Back in the 90s a lot of teams played the neutral zone trap during the clutch and grab era. You'd often have one team playing the trap against another team playing the trap. That was painful to watch.

They need to play more offense, if we score more goals then the other team it would cancel out whatever defensive problems we have, we have too much talent on offense to not be scoring, i think this one is on lalonde.

I started watching hockey during Probert’s Wings run. Instantly fell in love with the team and hockey. I understand times change but this is not even remotely close to the sport I fell in love with. The league and the team..so completely boring. Hardly any hits, even fewer fights. Sure there’s a lot of speed but I always was more drawn to the passion and rivalries. I think I finally came to terms with the fact that it’s over. Nothing lasts forever and man it was awesome while it was good. But yea , the Wings in particular are painfully boring to watch. After last game i threw in the towel and just stick to watching old games (90s through early 00s) on KZbin.

as an isles fan since 04'. I called the shutout in the first period. I can just tell when this team is not scoring no matter what. Fell asleep during the 2nd and woke up to watch the third period, only to watch what I knew was coming.

Red Wings look out of misplaced and like they couldn’t be bothered. I strongly believe it’s a coaching issue. This team isn’t built for Fester’s system. They’re so focused on defense and scared to mess up, They’re offensive creativity is gone.

Maybe its just the goalie in me but after the 1st, I was on the edge of my seat the rest of the game, once there was 5 minutes left and saw we still only had 10 shots I was hoping we didnt get anymore. I wanted to see Lyon steal that shit so bad. I know full well this is not how you win hockey games but from time to time i find it fun

He’s a bit older than they are looking for, and I love the guy but we have such a log jam at center and we need to make space for Kasper and for Danielson later. I don’t really care what the return is in this hypothetical. As long as we move him without having to give anything up to do so

And they stay with the same style every single year. The playoffs when Tampa had to play them twice was the only playoff series where I just couldn’t stand to watch the nothingness that occurred. I hate when any team I cheer for plays them cause you know the game is going to suck no matter what. Would rather watch any other team.
