Well but we can already view Star Wars as having multiple dimensions. The Canon Dimension or Dimension A, the Legends Dimension or Dimension B, the Infinities Dimension or Dimension C, and the Lego Dimension(yes that is a pun) or Dimension D. at least its not marvel levels of complicated.

Think the idea is that each "universe" have various dimensions with them, basically the star wars "Universe" is actually one reality, so hyperspace is linked to one universe, and each universe including its own hyperspace etc. are brane theory, so each universe are layered on-top of each other.

Hi! I'm a physicist, and I accept your suggestion to explain a little what I understand about other dimensions. 1st I'd like to say that, to me, a SW fan, your videos have been amazing, to know a little more about canon and legends, cause, here, in Brazil, we do not have as much content in books and comics as you have in the US. Ok, let's go to dimensions. Well, there are 2 accepted theories: one, that there are only our universe (and a supersymetric array of subatomic particles) and the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, that says that we have as many worlds as possibilities or choices (and just the particles we already know, and few yet to discover). There are other thoeries, not academic, but very nice, that got to my attention (I sugest the video: Understanting the Tenth Dimension, it's very good). Well, my notion of "on top of each other" is a little confusing, cause, the dimensions don't necessarely pile up. The 2nd dimensions is not piled up in the 1st, nor the 3rd to the 2nd. They are perpendicular to each other. They may be the case fot another dimensions that we cannot acces. But, nothing excludes the option to have parallels dimensions, but "the distance" between them would be bizzare to measure, cause, the space between them could have properties totally different from the ones that we know... It may not even be space, as we know it. But, in my humble opinion, I think there are not just other dimensions in the same universe, I believe we could discover one day, that we have entire universes forming systems, as our solar system, with a universe at the center and others spinning arround it, and entire "galaxies" made of universes, with many of this "galaxies" making a gigaverse, and this one, by this time is only a part of a teraverse, and on and on and on... This could be seen as alternate realities, cause, imagine we could travel to another universe that spins arround ours, the laws could be totally different... Another world, our reality as we suggest. Well, thank you very much to let me talk about this subjetc, I hope you enjoy it! And, congratulations! May the Force be With You!

The term "above" in physics generally refers to dimensionally; that is dimensions like 4d, 5d, etc. So if you are in the same place, but below or above another dimension, you might interpret that as your universe in that dimension is most similar to this part of our dimension but the biggest difference is how many dimensions our reality can account for

Though there are some good stories in Legends, there were quite a few bad ones (Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi both killed the old continuity before Lucasfilm rebooted it all, but there's still garbage out there like the Crystal Star, the Callista Trilogy and just about anything Kevin J. Anderson and Karen Traviss wrote).

A parallel universe seems, imo, very pointless and stupid because there's already so much to explore and see in the star wars galaxy. I don't see the point of adding an entire other universe. It just makes it way too complicated. I wouldn't mind seeing other galaxies as long as they aren't really explored and more just acknowledged to exist. There's just no need for time travel or dimensions in star wars.

its an interesting subject actually. On the one hand you can say that the force is technically god, but it's not the god that you can have a conversation with it, its kind of like the ying and yang in Taoism, it encompasses good and evil and it doesn't have a personality or a conscious form. This is where it gets crazy however, the force does have a will, it has a plan for the galaxy and it acts out its will through the actions of its followers (Jedi, sith, bendu etc) it's ultimate goal if you can really call it that because again it hasn't got a physical form is for there to be balance in the galaxy, light and dark in perfect harmony. however there is an ancient race of beings called the celestials or architects that used a combination of force powers and technology to literally construct entire stars and solar systems so I suppose you can say that they are the star wars version of god also.

In the novelization for TFA it is mentioned that Starkiller Base fires its weapon through "sub-hyperspace", a hyperspace-within-hyperspace dimension. In Legends and Canon "subspace" is mentioned but that might be a colloquialism for hyperspace. But in Star Trek subspace is basically hyperspace and they send communications through it and ships that have engines more faster and advanced than standard warp engines travel through it. Also in Legends it is mentioned that the afterlife Force Ghosts reside in is the Netherworld of the Force, and darksiders reside in an area of it called Chaos.

It was more explained in the Flash TV show. They're all in the same area in space but they vibrate at a different frequency than others. What one's universe vibrates at, they cannot detect another. Meaning that if there was a universe where the Empire won the war instead of the rebels, no one would see it, even though they are in the same area in space. There are plenty, if not millions of alternate realities in Star Wars and in real life, which i think it's true, but since the frequency vibrates diffferently, that's why we only see one version of the movie Star Wars instead of millions. Same with on earth. Like if in an alternate reality was where technology was sky high and we used flying cars and traveled to other planets. But we can't see it. Hopefully that explains it. Love the show!

Should there be multiple realities in Star Wars? I, for one, think there should be! That way, the old Legends continuity is still valid. Disney's new canon is also valid. It just occurs in a different reality. And there exists the possibility for new (and equally valid) versions to be explored in the future. EVERYBODY WINS! Seriously, it has worked with brands like DC, Marvel, Star Trek, Mortal Kombat and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don't see why it can't work with Star Wars too! Having just one single continuity actually seems kind of limiting.

Physics here; in order to create a wormhole you need to bend a section of space over itself so that two points of 3D space are bent to touch itself (one superimposed onto another) so either way worm hole or another dimension both are hypothetically stacking space time point (x,y,z,t to x,y,z,t) onto of each other.

I think the other galaxies are the most likely of these views on dimensions and such. Take the species the Nagai, they came from another galaxy I think called firefly the other galaxies was referred to as companion a b c d etc. Now most of these other dimensional beings were also said to hail from these galaxies, so I think the dimensions thing could be a point of view

Since no one has answered it yet I'll try to explain a bit but someone more experienced with physics can give a better answer if they see this video. Dimensions first need a basic explanation, we live in the 4th dimension which consists of 3 axis movement as well as 1 direction movement for Time. this allows us to has shape and size as well as the ability to move. a lower dimension could be like 2 axis and time which could allow for beings to exist on a truly flat plane but still move and age. So the statement of a higher dimension on top of our own, would mean a 5th dimension. likely Having 3 axis movement and potentially 2 directional movement for time or another dimension that we simply don't understand ourselves. but I could take a guess, this higher dimension may still have the force and beings from there could all have easy and complete access to it as a way move or understand their world like we have a watch for time. hope that helps give a basic idea of that

This kinda segment is basically the equivalent of the alternate dimensions thing from Star Trek. of which, I feel we don't actually need it either BUT it sorta exists unlike in Treks MULTIPLE realities here we have Disney Canon and then Legends Canon or 2 separate ones. which we wouldn't really have any except for the one if Disney had just stuck with the movies, comics and books which I personally feel they should've done... if it's not broke or good enough as is why then try to fix it? that's how things that weren't messed up get that way and then need fixing.

Alternate reality =/= dimension Hyperspace could be another dimension that exists within the Star Wars universe however an alternate reality would be a different or alternate universe that exists paralel to the Star Wars universe. So the gate that was in the comic is most likely connected to an alternate reality.

Watched enough Stargate to understand the difference between the two even if my explanation is confusing. Point remains dimension =/= alternate reality and hyperspace is most likely another dimension.

1. Galaxies. You (plural) realise that the vast universe contains more than 1 galaxy? The number of galaxies can as well be counted in billions, etc, though it should be rather finite number. 2. Dimensions, I'm not a fan of them, which leads us to: 3. Alternate realities, something that was in legends in Marvel-style "What If?" comic books that presented what would happen if certain events went different way, the "Star Wars Infinities" series for example. But it would be dangerous to try to mix the main reality with alternate ones, identical characters from them in one panel, that would be too much... Bonus: I guess the old EU and new canon should for conveniancy be considered as two separate timelines/alternate realities.

General Vic Rattlehead I personally just feel it can cheapen the story telling. Like I'm into comics and when they write their way into a tough spot the just say of it's another universe and reboot it. I think alternate universes in Star Wars can open the door to that and take away from its believably because instead of it being this one cohesive world where everything works together naturally, you could get crazy alternate universes like in comics. I think it's fine for marvel and DC but think Star Wars storytelling should be above that

Hey, Star Wars Explained. Recently I've actually written two stories concerning alternate dimensions in Star Wars. They're called Galactic Infinities, and the second is currently still in production. But, the premis of the first story is this: The main characters of the story are in a parallel universe to that of the original heroes we've come to know and love, only little tiny things have been altered. The story starts with Darth Vader living and actually turning back to the lightside. His son and him are able to enter this second reality by a "tear" in the galaxy. The second one takes a wider look at it all though. In the second one Sith and overall Dark Jedi from multiple dimensions figure out how to gain access to the heroes galaxy. The stories behind some of these galaxies are just barely mentioned but in my opinion would probably make good short stories. But, anyways. I hope this comment isn't lost in the comments and that you're able to actually read this and get somewhat interested in my works.

"There Are Alternate Dimensions In Star Wars" Darth Vader's helmet is 3D, or the third dimension. If he took a piece of paper and drew himself, that Darth Vader is 2D, or the second dimension. Boom. Alternate Star Wars dimensions.

Could it be said that Mortis exists in another dimension? When Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka went through the Monolith, a planet existed, which shouldn't be able to fit inside the Monolith. In addition, the group emerged after what felt like days but according to Rex was just a few seconds. It seems to me that Mortis exists outside of reality in that sense. So, could it be possible that it exists outside of time and space and in another dimension?

This description about other dimensions in the new Canon, it sounds like the creators took inspiration from Star Trek and Stargate take on the science but more leaning on Stargate just making it a shit ton more vague than what Carter would explain in detail.

I like to think that since all of this happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away that what we are watching is from a certain point of view. I think that leaves room for different interpretations if the events and allows for both legends and the new canon. I don't like the idea of other dimensions or even other galaxies. The story is set in the one galaxy, hence the introduction at the start of the films.

They don't travel at light speed. As the video said, they use Hyperspace, which works sort of like a wormhole. The Hyperdrive allows them to create some sort of rift into hyperspace which is another dimension of sorts (bear in mind dimension =/= reality or universe). Through this, they can travel relatively short distances and emerge at a much more distant point than before. Characters call it 'lightspeed' as slang, but it's not actually lightspeed.

I agree. This is why I am hoping that the Rebel characters don't die off but lead into another series that touches on events going on at the same time as ANH to RotJ that involve our Rebels cast. Maybe war going on near Mandalore. The war of the galaxy was going on in more places than where the original series took us. I would like to see Disney/LucasFilms take on what was happening during the George Lucas original movies. They will have rebels/Jedi and I think Thrawn coulld carry the film as the main antagonist. Just a thought.

I think there are alternate universes for Star Wars. My basis for this lies in fanfictions. Fanfictions exist and they take the story of main characters on different paths. They could be considered Alternate Universes or Legends. So I feel AUs exist in Star Wars.
