I think the disadvantage caused by his transformation in darth vader is not due to a loss of midiclorians, but more by the lack of confidence that you may have if you aren't able to use your body to channel the force, his spirit is as powerful as before but his body won't ever be able to perform as well

Well, Vader did say "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force". I wonder if something can be put together using this theory and that quote. Maybe Vader have witnessed Force powers we don't know about yet.

The Force = Plot Device It's a lot like how Superman is written; as strong as he needs to be for that story. If you need Palpatine to create "wormhole force storms" to make the story, or Kylo to "force stasis hold" a blaster bolt. If Vader needed to wrap reality for plot reasons then he would.

I believe that Anakin could of done it given enough time. Lord Vador No. I believe his loss physical and mental caused a fractured personality. Making him weaker in the force. He was never actually weaker but it helt him back. He could tap in to shadows of his full abilities when needed but they went away as soon as his life was no longer in danger. Thats why he never destroyed The Emperor.

Vader is Sith. You don't gain extra points for defeating Sidious single in combat. He would would only gain the title of leader of the Sith. Then the Empire would destroy him. Now if he engineered the Death of the Emperor. He becomes the leader of the Sith and the Emperor of the Galaxy. Vader was a tamed pet. A beaten dog. Don't get me wrong a pit bull and a pit fighter at that but still beaten down physically and mentally. Vader could of beaten Sidious but he chosen or could not to tap in to the needed power to do it.

I've always thought that the Force was life and that Vader's potential was limited by the fact he was more machine than man. Even if Vader was stronger in some ways than Anakin, Anakin theoretically would have had a higher ceiling than Vader. Even though Vader had a strong connection to the Force than Anakin did at the time mentioned in Lords of the Sith, part of it is simply because he has had more time and more experience. If he weren't half machine, his connection and strength would have been even greater.

I've always learned that the Midiclorian count was per blood cell. Not an over all count in the entire body. Meaning the loss of a limb would not effect your ability with the Force.

I feel that focusing on Anakin / Darth Vader alone concerning this discussion is an unintentional hindrance, specifically because he is so well established as being remarkably strong in the Force. Yet why should his prowess with the Force actually matter? It seems plausible to me that all sentient beings capable of using the Force could potentially alter reality, and in order to understand why, let us simply consider one of Yoda's most famous lines of dialogue: "Size matter not." If size does not matter to the Force, nor should matter to those who wield it, then it stands to reason that Force-users could quite easily use the Force on a microscopic or sub-atomic level in order to alter reality, to affect matter, or to create from nothing / obliterate something. So why, then, is reality-warping not a universally utilized Force power by Jedi or by Sith? Because of metaphysics, I would say. Much like Luke not being able to rationalize how Yoda, so tiny a fellow, could possibly lift an object as large and heavy as an X-Wing, I would surmise that groups such as the Jedi and the Sith simply did not think of using the Force in order to alter reality. Such thinking would have been beyond the purview of the universe around them, because while the Force may flow through all things, that does not necessarily mean that Force-practitioners always consider "all" things. Yet how many of us actually do? If we were to pick up a bottle, then we would see a bottle. We would think of the bottle as a bottle. What we would most likely not do is dwell on the bottle really being a collection of atoms and sub-atomic particles. Even Yoda himself, in spite of his realization that size does not matter, is seemingly unaware of the implication. As he also states: "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." More aptly put: Yoda is not thinking in terms of physical atoms. If nothing else, perhaps the Ones can be considered more enlightened or cognizant of how the Force could be used. Thus, their general philosophy on manipulating the Force, regardless of Light Side or Dark Side leanings, could reasonably include such an action as altering reality.

I believe Anakin could have if he followed the light side, but I think he lost the chosen one's power when he gave up being the chosen one. He chose the dark side's increase in physical strength instead of the light sides' increase in spiritual strength! That's how I see it! I agree with you completely and I love this video! :-)

There is a major difference between strength and control. You may have the brute force to tear a mountain down but lack the control to flip a switch. As Einstein's equation of E=MC^2 points out, matter and energy is interchangeable. The force is energy with a will. So you could generate matter from the force, if you had enough strength and control.

Midichlorian count would be a count of density like a sperm count or white blood cell count. it's X in Y amount of blood. so loss of limb wouldn't change the midichlorian count. if the count is 1 million per milliliter of blood it would still be the same after you cut someone in half. unless of course they come from a gland and you remove the gland. god i hate that they made the force a tangible measure.

I believe that Darth Vader had the potential of doing that, because of his connection to the Force, but Darth Sidious didn't let him evolve as he could, but rather limit his development and power to that matter, to suit his needs. On the another note, I believe that each individual has specific affinity towards the midichlorians, but they do disperse throughout the body. Once he had his limbs severed, he as an individual (or his soul) attracted midichlorians to the rest of his body, also making them more concentrated, better connected and since there is a higher density of midichlorians, basically his connection to the Force and power was even stronger! At least that's my theory :D

I wonder why some people still can't understand what midichlorians are. Qui-Gon explained them pretty straightforward: they are just another type of cells in every living being in that universe. And Force uses them to establish a 'connection' with a being. They are just a conductors. The more of this cells you have, the stronger your connection to the force. It doesn't mean you'll necessarily become a user (Leia), you need training and, as we know, Force has it's own will. I always liked this concept, reminds me of some cross-projects buddhist monks made with quantum physicists. There were couple articles about it.

Palpatine's Force Storm ability can warp space and time to create wormholes. And it is stated that these storms can relocate matter through hyperspace, essentially another dimension. And in some sourcebooks it is said that this power works by basically ripping a hole in the fabric of reality. Considering all these info we can say that Palpatine has the power to alter reality to some extent. We know that Vader's potential was much higher, so it is possible that he can alter reality as well. However he couldn't do it because of his cybernetics. They are not limiting his connection to the Force , they're limiting his body's capability of using the Force. He can't channel Sith techniques like Lightning without living limbs.

I agree, he could at least have the potential. I feel he would need to practice it, much like any other practitioner of the Force, but if he had enough time, I think he could do it. However, when we're dealing with comic book characters that have reality warping powers, they can seemingly conjure up anything they want, even from nothing. Sometimes it's rearranging the molecules, and other times it's like teleporting the materials themselves. I would think that with the Force, although mysterious, you couldn't just teleport the things you wanted (I know teleportation was a thing in Legends, but it feels a bit farfetched even though we just had portal hopping time travel, and projections that could interact with the environment and produce sound when the projector wanted [which could be a manifestation of the elements wherever the projection is]), you have to work with what you have. So say turning a puddle of mercury into water, I'd believe it could be done if you changed the physical puddle in front of you by ripping the atoms apart and reconfiguring them, but say you're in the vacuum of space and outside of the bits of dust, you couldn't just make enough oxygen to help you breathe longer than the Force could keep you alive. Reality warpers would seemingly just make it from nothing by teleporting it to them from somewhere else if we are concerned with the laws of conservation, or they actually create the things they need thereby breaking physics. Like I mentioned before, it would need to be practiced, and it would probably take a lot of power, seemingly more power than one would have time for unless they were in a different plane of spacetime like Mortis.

I think injuries and cybernatic implants wont affect power level and potential of someone, but in Vaders case I believe that he couldnt reach his full potential because he was psychological defeated by the events on Coruscant and Mustafar. His power grew a little with the darkside, but without his love and his creativity he was a puppet to the emperor. I think Obi Wans note about vader beeing a diabolic machine was meant for his state of mind.

I believe that he would definitely be able to, provided he could hone his skills and learn the ability in his lifetime. I do, however, think that someone like Palpatine would be better at this because of his strong telekinesis. To physically move molecules, atoms, etc. around would take great skill in this ability. I also believe that this ability would be of little practical use because of how long it'd take to develop and the amount of focus and time required to alter anything of any size.

Vader said it in ANH- "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of The Force." Which really begs the question, if The Force is that powerful, and Vader has access to it because of his strength in The Force, then why did the Empire even bother with building super-weapons when they could tap said untold power of The Force by way of two extremely powerful Sith at their disposal?
@benwilson6365

Assuming the Force is actually a force of nature which unifies the electromagnetic, weak, strong, gravitational and Higgs force it would make sense that a sufficiently powerful intelligence could manipulate it to atomic precision. I would imagine also that midichlorians act a conduit between matter and the Force with the midichlorians forming networks in the brain in parallel to the neurons which is what gives an individual control over the Force. It would make sense then that the majority of an individuals strength in the force comes from the head/brain, which would explain how Vader's power in the Force was unharmed

At some point, didn't Darth Vader attempt to heal himself through the use of The Force? If he had been able to alter the substance of physical reality, why couldn't he accomplish this? I think it's possible for Anakin/Vader to have immense power without being able to alter reality/matter.

i do agree that the loss of limbs doesn't necessarily decrease a person power or connection to the force but i do believe that certain abilities would be off limits. of course I'm referring to Lightning as vader couldn't channel that theough his arms as it would screw with his cybernetics causing himself damage. this doesn't change the fact that it was within his abiity to do so regardless of the fact that it was impractical for him to employ such an ability

It has always seemed to me that a lose of a limb could have an effect on one's connection to the force, but only as far as one would let it. Kind of like when some one looses a limb in real life. At first it is an obstacle to over come but then the person learns to adapt to life without the limb. So I would say that if Vader learned to forgo needing to 'have' arms he could become more focused and more powerful. I would say warping reality is possible but would take more time than most humanoids have in there life span.

Do you think it is entirely possible that Snoke could be a Celestial? There's a pretty strong case here if what you say is true in this video. It would make sense because he's over 1000 years old according to the TFA novelization and another thing is he has no idea about the rule of two because he pre-dates all of that. This would also explain the nights of Ren. I don't know about you, but if that's the idea they have for The main villain doesn't that just give you the chills?

I always liked to think that with how the Force works, it can theoretically be used to warp reality in different ways. I mean technically the telekinesis of a Force-user is very minimalist warping of reality. But compare it to the Source from DC comics. The Source is what powers the New Gods and all metahuman abilities, especially those that break the laws of physics to an extent.

As for Anakins power they say in EP I: "Not even master Yoda have that high midiclorian count!" meaning he is more powerful than the Yoda.As for his and Darth Vaders ability to change matter the short answer is: Wouldnt he change any of his limbs to humans tissues if he could? Would not DV take any chance to get out of his suit? One power I would consider Anakin to have is some sort of understanding how technological apparats works and how to fix them if they broke and we know that DV is really good to control matter and switches remotely. I have an idea that darth nihilus is one of the strongest sith ever. Because he gets stronger in the force every time he absorbs someone. And his pain and hunger increases which could also increase his power in the force. And if you look at midichlorians he actually has quite a high number. And savage opress also had quite a low midichlorian number but got stronger in the force by magic!

i think vader was stronger then anakin because after his injuries he actually trained as hard as he could, why anakin did not do that because of his natural talent( aka obi-wan being close to anakins force powers Tho he has a much Lower midichlorien count then an average jedi, but he unlike anakin, trained a lot) Tho, combine vader knowledge and power with his original full body AND i'm sure he would Be easily undefeatable.

I personally feel the more appropriate way to view midichlorians is as a way to access the Force. We know the force flows through and binds all living things, but we also know not everyone can access its power. That means the Force must exist regardless of whether or not midichlorians are present. What we don't know though is how midichlorians work. In our bodies, if we exercise more and more, our cells will actually create more mitochondria so the can generate more energy and therefore increase our strength and stamina. Perhaps midichlorians function similarly as we know some force abilities are exhausting, but become easier in time. Following this logic, losing a limb (and its midichlorians) would be similar to us losing muscle mass and therefore make us much weaker. But with more training (as Vader had under Palpatine) his remaining midichlorians could have become stronger to a point where he was better than before.

Here's another theory. What if Anakin's emotional state affected the Galaxy. As a child he finds happiness despite beginning a slave and the galaxy is largely peaceful despite a few arising conflicts; Anakin light and dark side begin to conflict after killing a tribe of Tuskin Raiders and then the galaxy falls into all out civil war; Anakin embraces the dark side and the Galaxy falls into turmoil; finally Anakin returns to the light and the rebellion win the battle of Endor. In Anakin and Obi Wan, Kenobi states that Anakin may hold the potential to affect good and evil in the Galaxy. Maybe he was doing it the whole time and just never realized it.

I think the power to shape reality is well within the forces capabilities but not quite within the grasp of Vader. I would think that one would need to be more balanced with the light and darksides, also have a rather wide understanding of force and how it interacts with the subatomic world in order to use this ability

What about Vader's lack of force lightning? I get that his suit was sensitive to electricity as well but I get the feeling his robot arms would not be able to conjure force lightning. Still powerful but limited to certain aspects of the force. Your thoughts?

Alex, I know this video is older but I just watched it.I would like to get your thoughts on what I had posted before. We hear Vader say, the power of this Deathstar is insignificant to the power of the darkside. This is a planet killer and he states thats it's nothing compared to.Also throughout the movies we always hear them make the staement. You don't know the power of the Darkside.Do you think they know something we don't or haven't seen? nobody really talks about these staements and I feel they shouldn't be glossed over. These are very big statements to make.

I think that Vader/Anakin could've theoretically done that but he (they?) was primarily a warrior, not a scientist or mystic like Plagueis or Yoda.

In the book _Tarkin_ Emperor Palpatine reminisces that he could bend reality itself once he and Darth Vader mastered the Force. Even as arrogant as Palpatine was, I doubt he would think this if it was not within the realm of the possible.

First of all, I didn't take it to mean "this is how many midichlorians I have in my body" so much as "this is the level of midichlorians I have per million blood cells". e.g. if my midichlorian count is 2500 ppm (parts per million), that wouldn't change if I lost a limb. Second of all, in the video he just said midichlorians don't CREATE the force they are just a symptom of it

From my understanding the Ones had potentially an infinite amount of time to hone their skills and prqctice their abilities in the force. Given the time (which Vader wouldn't have, he's only human after all) he could potentially develop the same powers as the Ones possess.

Power definitely is part of it, but i would think to achieve this, it would be less about power and more about focus. I don't think Vader would have had the patience to focus his mind that precisely.

In my opinion there is missing an important fact about Darth Vader possibly altering reality: his suit! To me, it is like Darth Bane's first attempts to create his own Holocron and fails because of his armament, wouldn't it be the same woth Vader then?

I don't think midichlorians are a "consequence" or a product or even the producers of the force as you suggested. Remember, the force is within all living things, I believe midichlorians allowed a person to channel and manipulate the force. Someone with a higher midichlorian count could "move" and "use" the force much more effectively than someone with a lower count.

I think mediclorians is more of a tendon in the force like a tendon depends on how strong your maximum output of you muscles are. so we could say vaders loss of limb didn't weaken him in the force just limited its use by vader but the intense pain he feels from his suit would in a way power wise anyway would strengthen the power of the dark side evening it out in a way

I think Anakin could alter reality in some sort of way and sort of already shown ways of doing just that from a point of view, I don't think Vader could do it simply due to the essence of the Force being strained by dark side corruption. As for the lost limbs stuff, I am an amputee and not having limbs is merely a physical problem of energy expenditure (badly fitting prosthesis would leech your energy) and if I had limbs that work like they do in the SW universe that physical limitation would hardly be a factor anyway. Master Yoda midichlorian count was one of the greatest and yet he is less physical mass than Obi-Wan who has way less of a Force connection. On a side note, Anakin/Vader's Midichlorian levels may theoretically have been condensed into a smaller mass which may give him more power if midichlorians are like adrenal glands.

I think he could, but the real question is why didn't he. I'm of the theory that Palpatine stalled his more occult training, telling him that they'd do it after becoming immortal or whatever he wanted to do.

Here's my theory: Vader's loss of limbs and gaining of metal limbs resulted in a higher concentration of the midichlorians in the rest of his body, therefore strengthening his power. The use of the Force comes from living things, so his limbs shouldn't affect his use of the Force. As the midichlorians push together, they form closer bonds and result in a closer connection to the Force. Anyone agree?
