Actually I believe that in The Pure Land/Heaven/The Land of Bliss, each of us will retain the unique beauty and individuality that we had in this life -- the precious unique dignity and individuality of the human person will not be lost, but perfected in the love and beauty of God/Buddha/Christ/Shakti/Shekinah -- the Divine Love/Lover of All. One thing in this life is very clear, our Creator loves and takes delight in diversity and individual uniqueness, so I believe that will continue in a glorious way in The Pure Land/Heaven/The Land of Bliss. Love to all! 🙏🙏🙏💖

@Gozarusan yes, it’s nice to meet people from all parts of the world who believe in Amitabha. I don’t think I could go around, as you say, telling people that there is a Land of no suffering because they would think I lost my mind 😁. In my country most people are either non believers or Catholics. The ones who are Catholic have their own heaven, they are not interested in others… And the ones who are non believers simply believe that this physical life here is the only one.

I think the pureland maybe a spirtual land, so you will have a spiritual body or Astral body. Humans are closer to the animal realm then to the spiritual realm, thus we still identify with female/male which is nonexistence in a spiritual realm.

this may be kind of a complex question and possibly meaningless but it has arisen in the mind and i’d enjoy hearing others opinions… If/ Since there is no passions or desire/clinging of ego and attachment in the pure land, then why so is the pure land full of beautiful scenery, surroundings, etc as all such things become meaningless in the midst of the absence of the ego and it’s desires..? I tried to think of why and i came down to using it as a skillful means for sentient beings to go there and stray away from suffering of physical poverty and such, or maybe a more philosophical idea that everything is perfect and beautiful until desires change phenomenon and make some good and some bad.. So hence eliminating the bad is right.. i am not sure¿ As stated in the sutras, pleasing the ego with passions does not exist in the pure land and when in the pure land all such stuff , since being non existent, is pure bliss.. So the scenery and beautiful surroundings can’t be for pleasure. But why else is there beautiful water, sand below, buildings, jeweled trees, huge gates and barriers, etc, if it is not for pleasing the eye sense and pleasure of desire..?

You are right it is skillful means ordinary beings can look forward to how it is described but when we arrive there and quickly realize Buddha hood we won’t be attached to these things so the stuff described in the pureland won’t negatively affect our cultivation the same way those things might affect us here. The pureland isn’t subject to impermanence either which is the reason good things described in the sutras cause us suffering in this world because they are temporary and we attach to them so when they inevitably change or die we suffer this is not the case in the pureland as these objects and experiences are permanent and we won’t suffer from losing them.

Really beautiful answer and yes exactly right. They are used as skilful means as sentient beings are attached to phenomena. If you tell people Pure Land is even more dirty than earth and the environment is horrible, then no one would wanna go to the Pure Land 😂🙏 So Amitabha Buddha must create the best environment for us to attract beings to seek rebirth to the Pure Land, but all these beautiful things in the Pure Land will not help grow our greed anger and ignorance, rather they are used to help spread the Dharma. Even the water, the birds, the trees... Everything in the Pure Land expounds the Dharma, so we will always be mindful of the Buddha Dharma and Sangha and will not be affected negatively with our cultivation but only to enhance and purify our mind further. Hello Dharma Sister Jiawen. I enjoy all your talks and have returned to Nianfo because of them. I chant In Praise of Amitofo and walk with the chanting following the Praise. It's only for 10 minutes or so. I hope to get some beads and chant that way too. Do you have any recommendations? Another topic: Re: women and Amitabha's vows. I practiced and was part of a Chinese Pure Land sangha in Portland, Oregon for many years before we moved to Hawaii 16 years ago. There were many Americans as well as Thai and Vietnamese members as well as Chinese as part of the Temple in Portland. Many of us did not accept the 32nd vow that seemed sexist and discrimanitory against women. I heard your explanations, but it seemed a bit like bending bamboo so that it fits orthodox Pure Land teachings. No offense to you or others who are attached to this interpretation. But if there is no gender in the Pure Land why aren't men listed in the 32nd vow as not being born there instead of women only? You said women suffer more in this saha world than men. That is because men abuse and discriminate femals including children Our monks and nuns (Chinese, Thai and American) in Portland had different views on this and we often had lively debates about it. Pure Land, Pure mind, Open mind some would sa.
