The cessation of eating other sentient creatures is what led me here. That changed me fundamentally over the course of about four years.

All animals are unique individuals who are worthy of respect, which means not breeding, using, or killing them. I would think this is consistent with precept of not killing.

I myself am not vegetarian. I have spoken to my doctors and considering my health and weight, they said it would not be wise for me to do it for health concerns. With that in mind, I am a strong believer in reform within the meat industry. Namely that I abhor factory farming. And if I am to buy meat, I would much prefer kosher or halal meat as it is made with the purpose of causing as little suffering to the animal as possible. And on a personal note, if I ever have a meal with meat being served, I nianfo for the animal for a favorable rebirth and to be delivered from suffering. Namo Amituofo 🙏🏻☸️

The best vegetarian/vegan Chinese restaurants are in NY's Chinatown close to the Mahayana temple. I will be vegetarian for 7 years next month. I am trying to be vegan now. I feel more calm now. I believe eating the flesh of terrified animals who died a violent puts bad energy into the body. Bad karma.

I heard there's an Amitabha vegan restaurant in NY? Have u been? Yes going vegan is great I'm mostly vegan (don't drink milk & eat eggs, but occasionally take a yoghurt...) but yes like to be completely vegan too step by step 🙂🙏Amituofo

While mostly vegan myself, I am really glad that you mentioned it depends on ones lineage and where one is on the path. Because especiall in Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism the lineages and masters have many different opinions on it.
@PureLandBuddhism3 жыл бұрын
Yes also the special environmental conditions in Tibet makes it really difficult for them to grow vegetables (very expensive) so their diet is heavily rely on yaks, but I also know many Tibetan Buddhists and they all favour in adopt vegetarian diet and try their best to do so (the ones I met are vegetarians), and yes also different lineages in Tibetan Buddhism also have different views 🙏Amituofo

You need to attain the state of Samadhi, this is called "single-minded" recitation of the Buddha Amitabha mantra. Buddha Amitabha can only liberate a being that is not thinking at the time of dying. That is why we practice for this important time. It is very hard (or I may say "impossible") to attain Samadhi while you engage in acts of killing or being responsible for killing and abusing animals and people. It is the path of love and compassion that leads to Pure Land.
@PureLandBuddhism3 жыл бұрын
Just wanna add you don't need to obtain Samadhi to seek rebirth to the Pure Land, this is the other power not self effort. Single mindedness doesn't mean Samadhi (there's misinterpretation). This I talked about in one of my videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaGzeI2amZ11ftk

Buddha did not impose vegetarianism because Buddha was not vegetarian. This was added by the dogmatic institutions that built themselves up to promote Buddhism - not necessarily part of Buddhism. Follow what Buddha actually taught, and do not get bogged down in dogmatic minutiae. 😎
@gula_rata14 күн бұрын
The number one first precept that the Buddha said was clearly, NO HARM OF ALL SENTIENT BEINGS. This includes all human and animal lives. So it means no killing of anyone or anything, as a result of compassion practice of the Dharma.. If you truly practice Buddhism then you'll understand it. If you are still involved in the killing of sentient beings by eating their dead bodies, despite knowing the violence, torture and suffering of their lives, then you are simply a hypocrite. You say you're Buddhist publicly, but like to pick and choose and ignore Buddha's teachings as you like.

Can practicing Amitabha recitation somehow energize the body? I have been a vegetarian (no eggs) for 5 years and feel really annoyed about the lack of nutrition. It would be nice if you shared more about the vegan diet.

Im not a Buddhist, but try to eat mostly veggie. I could yet only reduce my meat consumption to 1x all 2 or 3 weeks (my body feels weak after that time). I could not live without dairy products, but without eggs (I eat them very rarely anyways)

To learn and practice Buddhism, follow what is taught by the sutras. Example ritual is not mention in the sutras. Cultivation is about attaining a pure mind. Anything that distract your mind from purity, even it is not mention in the sutras, one should abstain. Example smoking that will affect one’s health. Killing life will distract one’s mind to be compassionate.

🙏🙏🙏/ Whatever you eat is ok as long as your heart is pure and have compassionate. Purest from your heart that’s what counts or else the Cow or animals that eat plants will be more holy then us.🙏🙏🙏Namo Amitoufo 😊💐🌺🌷🌸🌹🌼❤️

It cannot be ok to use animals in any way to eat them or their products - especially when there are alternatives such as vegetables, fruits, legumes etc. What use is a pure heart full of compassion if it doesn't benefit the weakest and most defenseless creatures of our world, the animals? People need to stop putting themselves at the center of everything. We are only a small part of the earth. And it's not about us alone.

Thanks, wonderful sharing as usual. I have came across that if one cannot go on full vegetarian, at least one should avoid directly killing the animal for its meat . Can you elaborate more on that please. Namo Amitabha Buddha.
@PureLandBuddhism3 жыл бұрын
Yes if one cannot go full vegetarian then definitely shall not kill as it can generate really bad karma (if u take lives of others, others will also take revenge on u, if not this lifetime then future lifetimes). Also if we are suspected/heard/saw the animals were specifically killed for us then we shall not consume it (to avoid bad karma). Amituofo 🙏

Well, as much as I prefer not to harm other beings it's not something I can do. I need fish in my diet for my heart and I need other protein in my diet that isn't vegetarian for other health related reasons. However, I prefer not to and take no joy in it. I eat a partially vegetarian diet, this has bothered me for a while as I strongly believe in benevolence and compassion.

We are sorry to hear of your health issues. Since your conscience is afflicted by guilt, we sincerely encourage you to consume plant-based supplements/medicines as a substitute for meat to get the nutrients and minerals that your health condition requires. So, you may consume plant based food and supplements. Positive change is definitely possible with sincere effort and there are a lot of plant based supplements available in the market. May you be healthy and happy. Amituofo 🙏

It's very hard for me to give up meat. I'm still a child and my parents say that I have to eat it meat so I can grow big, strong and healthy. So most of my meals have meat in it. I also like the taste of meat having eaten it for all my life. So can I Nianfo for the animal whenever I eat or will it be too late for that. What can I do? 😪 🙏 Amituofo
@PureLandBuddhism Жыл бұрын
Yes you can Nianfo for them when you eat them, you can eat the "three pure meats" and just don't kill them yourself. Also plant-based meat is a good substitute. Amituofo.
