Hi Jiawen, thank you for the diligent uploads! I'm still having some cosmological or existential questions about pure land so I wonder if you can enlighten me. 1. It is said that Amitabha will not realize perfect enlightenment unless all 48 vows are actualized, so how can a Buddha ascend to Buddhahood yet not become fully enlightened? 2. If all Buddhas have pure lands and are equally perfect/blissful, then why are we specifically talking about Amitabha's pure land? Does that mean Amitabha's power and level is higher than other Buddhas, since we live in Sakyamuni's realm which has animal realm, hungry ghost realm, and hell realm? 3. This may be a silly question, but do Buddhas and Boddhisattvas have specific appearances? What do they really look like in truth? Or are they formless and only appear a certain way in front of us unenlightened mortal beings?

@@PureLandBuddhism But one does indeed reincarnate into Sukhavati, so how could it be outside of 5/6 traditional realms (depending on if you consider the realms of the devas and demi gods to be seperate)? If it were to exist in a form of paranirvana, Bodhisattvas who are rebirthed into the purelands would be unable to return in order to spread the Dharma. This raises some fascinating ponderings.

The pure land is outside of 32 planes of existence of the Saha world system. In Mahayana teachings, there are numerous world systems, each may inhabits its own Buddha, and one of the Buddhas in the far west from our world system is known as Amitābha. Each of the world system may not conform with the cosmology of 32 planes of existence like in our world. Here we have all the 32 planes of existence, but in Amitābha pureland there are no hell, asura, preta, and animal realms, also in this world there are commonly two sexes of being, man and woman whereas in Amitābha's pureland the beings there have no gender. The reason why Shakyamuni Buddha told his followers to recite Amitābha's name is because Amitābha Buddha before attaining buddhahood had made vows to help all beings who recite his name to be reborn in his land, where the conditions there is far more suitable to make expedited progress towards enlightenment
