I like uspcc, but I have a little issue. If they are always the favorite then other companies have a hard time being taken seriously. So when we have every magic and cardistry group getting there cards printed at the same facility, and you, some people get a gold stamp put on every single card, then it adds months to the production time! I believe healthy competition can push something that is great to the next level. If these new Copaq's are the next big thing or not, it doesn't matter. People will hear about the hype and try them because they have already bought bikes. In summary, it would be nice to see a couple of other big dogs in the arena.

@transporter255 expert playing card company, the one in the video is also good. It's all personal preference though! Some magicians prefer EPPC (expert playing card company) I love both and use decks from both. They are very similar and both are used by professionals

I love USPCC, but Cartamundi has really surprised me and grown heavily on my heart. They do wear down in the sense that they lose shape a bit quickly, but the performance is still there. They still spring like a beauty and are a gem to handle for sleights.

been playing around with a ton of B9 truelinen on Superlux stock (just like Copag 310 and Usagis), and what I say is : Forget any comparison between these and USPCC. There's nothing to compare, there's nothing similar. Cartamundi cards will handle a ton better under humid and hot weather. It can withstand springs and other XCM deck-wrecking flourishes way better than USPCC. Deck tends to go back to its original shape : flat, not bent. You can leave the deck under sun rays, the deck won't bend (unlike EVERY OTHER deck in teh world). It's just so different, it's truly a whole new genre of cards. Only newbies won't see any difference

You should compare the copaqs to bicycles or tallys, not the "high end" crushed stock decks since they are supposed to be a cheap budget deck like tallys and bikes.

Dude, Copag is the oldest and most famous card maker here in Brazil, practically 90% of the cards you find on the local market are made by her. In terms it is as if she were the "Bicycle cards of Brazil".

Rafael Oliveira Copag is from the Cartamundi brand. They do have a department in Brazil but the company was founded in Belgium in 1970. Cartamundi Group, also called Cartamundi, is a Belgian company, based in Turnhout, that manufactures, produces and sells board games, card games, collectible card games, packages and playing cards through its manufacturing and sales subsidiaries. The name of the company in Latinmeans cards for the world. It is one of the world's largest playing card manufacturers with its core market in western Europe. The company was founded in 1970, a joint venturebetween Biermans, Brepols and Van Genechten. Cartamundi has established over a dozen international sales branches throughout the world since 1970; France in 1993, U.S. in 1994, the Netherlands and Sweden in 1999, Hungary in 2000, Singapore and Spain in 2002, Austria in 2005, Italy in 2010, and Turkey in 2011. The other branches were established through acquiring other companies. Cartamundi acquired Swiss AGMüller (Switzerland) in 1999, Altenburger und Stralsunder Spielkarten (Germany) in 2000, Spielkartenfabrik Altenburg (Germany) in 2002, Games & Print Services, Ltd (U.K.) in 2003, Dertor Poland (Poland) and 50% of Copag(Brazil) in 2005, Yaquinto Printing Company (U.S.) in 2007, 50% of Parksons Games & Sports (India) in 2010, Marigó (Spain) in 2011, and France Cartes in 2014. In 2015, the company acquired Hasbro's last two factories in Waterford, Ireland and East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Hasbro signed a five-year deal with Cartamundi for the company to produce their board games at the East Longmeadow plant.

I know, but what I'm saying is that even with the purchase of 50% of the company by Cartamundi in 2005, Copag's decks continue to be produced here at its factory in Brazil. I live very close to the factory. And what i just said it's a company so old here in Brasil that 90% of the decks you find in the local market are made by it. the cheaper ones are made of paper (less than 4 dollars, i think), and the traditional ones with two decks on the package are made of plastic and cost something around 30 dollars.
@KaizerKraft
@KaizerKraft 6 жыл бұрын
Rafael Oliveira True. It's only 50% of Copag that they own and Copag is indeed the oldest card manufacturing company in Brazil (and the most popular too!). In the video, if you look closely, you can see on the backside of the box the Belgian adress printed so that's why I think this box of Copag cards were made in Belgium. But this aside, 30$ for a double pack of the plastic versions? Wow, that's not cheap. Here it's around 20€ for the double pack but they do not include a double backer and so. Just the standard set. Maybe the ones you talk about do contain these extra cards? I kinda like the plastic ones because they have a much longer lifespan and the printing on it is high quality. I remember that I've bought similar plastic cards from another (unknown) card maker and the backside print was fading after a period of extreme usage... I'm very curious to try out these new ones in linen material. They look awesome and I hope to get my hands on them very quickly 😁 greetz

It took me quite a time to adapt, because Cartamundi cards are ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY different. It's not just about stiffness or softness, it's about the whole. everything is different. The thickness, the softness, the stiffness, the handling in humid or dry weather. If you leave a deck under sun rays, the cards will bend naturally. with cartamundi cards it won't really happen the same. It can bend a little but if exposed for too long, and yet, it takes a couple of seconds to "unbend" them. while USPCC cards take ages to come back to their more original flatness Also, springing and stuff won't affect the deck's bend as easily as with USPCC. Cards wil return to their original flatness very easily.

Hi, Chris! I'm from Brazil and Copag is the biggest card manufacturer here. The card's made of something like plastic and don't work for magic or cardistry, and is the first time i saw the company doing something that can work for those porpouse. Just for reference: Bicycle cards is too expansive in Brasil. It's cost 2 or 3 times more than a Copag's because of the taxes.

I bought the Burger deck, a kickstarted deck. I was surprised by the smoothness of the cards because they did not feel like the standard USPCC finish but more like the Ellusionist type, thin stock. To my surprise the were printed by Cartamundy! I instantly fell in love with that finish. They're definitely doing something right those Europeans
@LukeLane1984
@LukeLane1984 2 жыл бұрын
I just picked up a few COPAG 310 *Slim Line* decks, and I must say, I'm impressed! The stock is thin, yet sturdy. They feel broken in right out of the box. The finish is really nice as well, and they are perfectly cut, resulting in the deck having really smooth edges and are great for Faro shuffles (any kind), and they riffle shuffle and spring very comfortably. Also, the printing quality is really consistent and really well-centered. The last 15-20 USPCC Rider Back decks I picked up, ALL had some problem with the printing. And I've noticed this on custom made decks printed on Bike Stock as well. With either the backs, faces, or both, being printed somewhat off-center at best, or at worst printed so poorly that it makes the decks unusable for magic. It feels like, over the past few years, that either the quality of USPCC Rider Backs has gone down, or that competing decks have simply surpassed them. I haven't tried the original thicker stock COPAG 310s, but I can say without a doubt that the 310 *Slim Line* decks are now my absolute favorite. There are also 2 different Gaff decks available (assorted gaffs) which go for like 7 or 8 bucks each, there is a marked version of this deck, a stripper deck, and more. I'd, perhaps in the future, like to see different color back designs, like maybe Black and Green. Other than that, ZERO complaints. I personally can't think of any reason to keep using Rider Backs, I'm switching 100%.

My all time favorite as to date (still waiting for your 1st Playing Cards, and the latest edition of the Virtuoso) but it has to be "Origin, by Cardistry Touch" in collab with Cartamundi, has to be my all time favorite deck that had the biggest wow factor when I opened the tuck case and handled the cards!

Thanks for sharing your opinion on these! I've always preferred USPCC crushed stock with the Bee finish which now having a large collection and trying out different decks I've found that whatever finish the Buck Twins use for their crushed stock is my favorite which got me even more hyped about FW17 Virts since they are using that stock and finish!

I just discovered Chris and Cardistry, and I'm totally addicted. In trying to learn some basic cuts, flourishes and vanishes, and one problem has become apparent for me, and that is dry hands. I have fairly dry fingers and hands, and I'm finding that particularly with new cards, I can't get the friction needed to thumb a card from the bottom, for instance. Any deck that has more texture and friction, sounds good to me. Anyone else out there has an issue with dry fingers and slippery cards? Any tricks to overcome it? Maybe Chris will see this and share some tips.....love your vids Chris!

Hey Chris, nice review of the Copag 310's by Cartamundi. I have a pair myself and they are enjoyable. Historically Cartamundi has made some fairly poor playing cards. The DMC Elite stock in particular was atrocious, despite how cool the marking system may have been. But these Copag's have seriously stepped up Cartamundi's game in my opinion. A lot of magicians don't know the history of Copag, (which was bought by Cartamundi) but they are one of the premiere 100% acetate plastic card makers in the world....maybe #1 if not, second to Kem (which is now owned by USPPC). I thought it was an interesting choice for Cartamundi to use the Copag name when designing these cards. If I had to guess, I would say they wanted the name to be synonymous with quality, which Copag certainly is...they may not be know well by Magicians, (until now) but poker players are very familiar with them. One final thought...Cartamundi has very solid distribution, as they make a lot of other types of cards besides playing cards. (like Magic The Gathering) and until now, you can usually find a cheap pair of cartamundi playing cards hanging next to the Bikes and Bees in your local Walmart type store. I predict we start seeing the 310's in stores everywhere in the next year or so. If that happens, they could really give standard Bicycle cards a run for their money at only $4.99 per deck. - Yeah...I'm still a USPCC guy too. But if variety is the spice of life....then bring it on Cartamundi, Legends, Expert PCC and all the rest! The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.

The feel is so different and just like you mentioned in the video: Being used to something is key here. I would have to develop a whole new feel for other card finishes to work on a daily basis.

The more affordable cards I find here are plastic cards. I started with those but they stick over time but are durable for throwing. Then I discovered a reseller of custom decks (USPCC and EPCC) so I buy there now. The feel of those compared to plastic are phenomenal but I found that EPCC cards are thicker so I prefer USPCC.

Yo Chris. Great vid. A few months u showed the a phone trick using the Card2phone app. My question is: how do u get the app to show the back of the card unfolded instead of folded? I got the pro version. Cheers

Here in England there are two main decks one by cartmundi and one by waddingtons, cartmundi ALWAYS have a plastic coating inside the case over the cards

Godda say, these Copag's look pretty nifty. I really like the blue-greenish version. If that is what Copag consideres the "next big thing", then we don't need necessarily to oblige to that, but rather be happy that the USPPC got a real opponent now considering quality. Maybe this will push the overall quality of all cards. I'll probably still stick to my Tallys.

I’ve got this deck at the session convention ‘yes’ the deck is thick. I’m not a collector and don’t know much about card finish but right away I feel the thick ness. I feel USPCC is way better but because of the thickness of the deck It’s pretty nice to use as a practice deck. once you master your move with your copag deck you feel really easy with USPCC decks or other thinner decks 😂😂

The bad thing about Copag (here in Brasil) for me is that most of the playing cards are just standard ones, and i like the kickstarter projects with Bicycle, but recently i gave a shot to a Copag deck named "Serena", with a botanical theme, i'm just waiting for them to arrive in my house...

Just got the 310s and got to say I've been a devoted fan of cartamondi for a while but the ability to Pharoah the deck is a problem with these cards and a few other decks with the B9 finish but the Madison Hellions (by Odin Jones btw) are AMAZING and made me switch from USPCC...

I feel like its nice to see another playing card company that gives uspcc some competition, ultimately bringing up more innovation to the table to stay on top. Competition isn't always a bad thing :)

I just received my newer prototypes from Cartamundi, same B9truelinen, same stock. Man ... amazing quality. Completely different than USPCC. Nothing comparable, not even the paper handling (when under extreme temperature whether cold or hot, super humid or super dry). The cut used to be quite softer 9 months ago when I got my first prototypes, but still, I'm hooked for life. I did a great choice going for Cartamundi, also Jirs is a beast ambassador

I do agree with what you've implied: that it's too bold a claim to say that there can be "one deck to rule them all". Rating quality and handling is far too subjective an issue. I personally liked the Cartamundi cards. I prefer the card stock and coating way more than USPCC's Bicycle newspaper-like fragile stock, and I like that the Cartamundi cards last much longer also. What I absolutely hate is that they're not traditionally cut, which makes them tough to use for gambling routines and table work. Still, far superior to USPCC decks for me.

Also Chris, you said that you read every comment and I hope you do, you are awesome and I love your videos, you inspire more than kids with your channel and you help people of a large age group with your heart felt demeanor. I am among the older viewers of yours but we all struggle no matter what age we are. Thank you for creating this channel and wish you would come to Indiana as I would like to hang with ya and of course talk magic and stuff. There is no way I could get to Ohio even though it's right beside us, well state wise anyways lol I just would have no way to get there or I would. You are awesome man, you deserve the best.
