I just finished building my Elves Eglath Pro 54 cm with Ultegra mechanical. This is their “All around” frame. I rode it yesterday for the first time and it is a very, very nice bike. I like it just as much as my S-works Roubaix so far. Came in at 17.5 lbs with pedals. Superteam 56 carbon wheels, which I’ve had tremendous luck with on other bikes. I used a BB infinite bottom bracket. The stock one from them seemed ok and supposedly has ceramic bearings. 2500 bucks. Pretty stoked. I’m gonna build another one and go electronic shifting next time. Not the lightest but I live here by you in South Florida so no big deal. (I actually bought my first Tarmac from your shop 13 years ago). Great channel!

This price point is definitely more the future than anything above 10K. But the market for commuter bikes is way bigger - when talking about price point I honestly think they should be included in any consideration as well.
@bernardo9202 Жыл бұрын
Yeah i wish specialized did a crux alloy version, from the reviews the bike just seems to be the perfect bike to commute, but at +4k for sram apex mechanical gearing, starting point. Is just horrible. 3k for a frame is a roubary. They cost like the most expensive carbon. the most 500$ to make, selling them 6x to 11x over that, just because people buy them is stupid.
@GCPerformance18 Жыл бұрын
I think these companies wil make the big brands force to reconsider and start lkowering, not right away but maybe in the future we will see prices drop
@johnparry9636 Жыл бұрын
I live in the UK where us bike riders, I believe, have been ripped off for years. Mid price cycle prices now can exceed motorcycles. No one is surely going to believe a road bike is more sophisticated and difficult to build than a pedal bike. The current market is soft as I believe prices are kept artificially high. Chinese built frames, wheels and groupsets will break the monopoly.

I built up an Elves Falath Pro a few months ago right before the Evo came out (dream build video is on my channel). I'm still not sure how I feel about the look of the slammed stem on the Evo. But with the spacers you added, it doesn't look all that bad. Overall the ride quality on the Falath Pro is good - stiff yet compliant. I came from an Allez Sprint and I primarily ride on mostly bad chip-seal roads in south Texas, so having a little bit more compliance but retaining the stiffness with the carbon was definitely welcomed. Thanks for the review Grant! Let us know how it feels after you put some miles on it.

Sorry, to comment so often. Rewatching…abd noticing a huge gap between the frame and the rear tire. My thoughts are that this is too big and won’t be aero. You could put a wider tire in the back to fill the gap a bit, however I’ve never seen such a large gap and even a 28 looks like it would leave a big gap. Obviously a wider tire is going to be slower and less aero, but it’s at the rear, and the rear arch seems to be very wide, so it covers the tire. That looks like it’s made for 32s…but that seems bizarre to me. Did you think about going to a 28mm rear? Thanks. I might buy this frame. It concerns me looking at this. Any thoughts?

@@GCPerformance18 Actually, I’m sorry. I take it back. I thought they were Challenge Strada Pro, which are 4w slower per tire than Conti 5000S TR and 5.5w per tire slower than Corsa Speed. My mistake. They’re Challenge Criterium. I’ve not used them but they’re 0.2w faster than 5000S TR and have good puncture resistance. I gave up on Corsa Speed because they’re too fragile. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I recently switched to the Contis. They inflate to 26mm instead of 27mm on a 19 internal which allows better rim/tire interface on my 26.5 external rim (this is a hugely overlooked aspect of wheel/tire choice and design and a reason why 23s are faster in so many cases, yet can’t be bought easily). The Contis are tested to be a comparatively aerodynamic tire from the basis of the tread pattern (2 watts better than Corsa Speed) From some test results, it would appear that the Strada are more puncture resistant. No idea about how aero they are, but filling the interface gap with clear silicone and painting the sidewalk with it on the front tire saves about 3w combined. I think they’re a good choice! If you haven’t guessed, I love all things bicycles…much like yourself I’m sure 😄 Have a great day! p.s I’ve just read that the measured width is 25mm. That’s excellent. Reading these things, I also would choose these as my next tires. However, I live in China and they aren’t available as far as I can see.

$4000? Nah. I'd say even less. Because we don't have enough groupset alternatives just yet. Build that with LTwoo's new hydrolic electronic group and it'll be much less than $4000. Can't wait for those days.

I had the first Elves Falath in S. Florida and received a lot off odd looks from some fellow cyclist mainly because they had never heard of the Elves brand. I also met and rode with you and your group from Lake Worth on Saturday. We chatted about the Elves brand and you had mentioned you were planning a build, I'm looking forward to your thoughts about the brand. I have over 5000 miles on Falath with NO ISSUES and personally wouldn't own another brand. kzbin.infoJm_j8gijZ7Q Good luck and I look forward to your future review on it.

You can build a lighter more aero bike second hand for a third of the price. Why not buy a used high end bikes for the same price? It's better for the environment and you'd save more money.

My advice: change your tires. You can save 8 watts because the tires you have on have poor rolling resistance in tests. If you are going to use 25mm instead of 23mm (which are faster due to matching your rim better) , then use Conti 5000s TL as they will expand to 26mm on your rim and will better transition with your external width. Other tires will inflate to 27mm and have more aero penalty. Contis have a more aero tread pattern than Corsa Speeds ( 3 watts faster in total rolling resistance). The aero tread and narrower expanded width eclipses the Corsa rolling resistance gain. Corsa Speeds are too fragile. I gave up on 23mm Corsa 1.0 (the very fastest relatively puncture resistant tire) as I got a bunch of failures. 23 mm 1.0 is 3 watts faster in aero than it’s newer 25mm only version. The cycling industry sell products on nonsense pseudo-science marketing. What actually is fastest and best, you can discover if you research and use logic.

can you weigh bikes properly? This bike is missing a chain and a seat. There is no meaningful comparison from that. It takes less than 10 minutes to put a chain and seat on a bike. I can give a pass on the lack of bar tape, computer mount and pedals.
