According to the owner, he was cruising in his 2014 Ram 1500 Hemi V8 when some warning lights popped on the dash and the Cruise Control shut off.
Both the CHECK ENGINE light and TRACTION CONTROL light are both on, and 2 codes are stored:
P1524 Oil Pressure Out Of Range - Camshaft Advance/Retard Disabled
C0051-28 Steering Wheel Position Sensor-Signal Bias Level Out Of Range / Zero Adjustment Failure
Could these two issues be related if they happened at the same time?
Or did the customer only notice the lights after the fact? HMMM...
Let's diagnose both issues and see if there is a common thread...

The big question is why does a shop need to call you in on something this basic? Everyone doing this job should know by now that Chrysler ops are junk and on back-order most of the time😂 If you have a steering angle sensor code and an off center steering wheel, hello, wake up! My goodness I thought this business we're in was rid of most no-nothin's by now. That shop is a good one to stay clear of😂😂

I did timing chains on two ford 4.0 l. After replacing guides gears chains tensioners. I found out the wiring harnesses are junk. From factory they are taped with electrical tape about 2 inches from each sensor and tape from friction eats wire insulation off causing shorts. Keep this in mind when diagnosing.😄

On the timing chain issue, with it being such low miles: it was very likely a broken guide. If the oil is neglected or low, the oil will heat up/ the plastic guides heat up, then break; then your tensioner will extend past it's full range of motion trying to account for it. Then the chain will flop around and chew up the broken guide pieces that have fallen down; causing it to jump teeth at the crank first. That's why he could hear crunchy noises and teeth jumping when he barred' it over. As long as the valves didn't hit, it can still be repaired fairly easily. but that's for the next guy to find out now, since it was turned in as a core. ;)

We don't seem to be able to get "All Data" in Australia. And boy could we use it. Chasing down wiring diagrams is a real pain. I am currently working on a 2007 Mazda3 owned by my older son with 2 of the power door actuators that slowly died in a period of a few months. I have 3 wiring diagrams and not one of them matches 100% the pinout of the wiring on this car. OEM's are very expensive and you want to be 100% sure.

I'm an Aussie Auto Elec with 30+ years in the trade and can tell you that finding reliable wiring diagrams has always been difficult and expensive. Back before the internet we had a bookshelf at work full of wiring diagram manuals which constantly needed updating and you would still regularly get vehicles in that you had no diagrams for. I have yet to find a good online subscription based service that offers anything close to what is available in other countries. It is very frustrating.

The steering wheel in my ‘21 Ram 1500 Classic (4th Gen) is off to the right about 10 degrees, it just suddenly happened one day. It’s not setting any codes as it is under 20 degrees and the truck trails straight with the steering wheel off to the side a little. Other than it being a little annoying it doesn’t affect anything and I’ve been driving it like that for about 2 years, after the dealer told me that if I bring it in to have it looked like they’ll have to keep it for couple of days. It will be getting new tires installed very soon so the alignment will be done then. Thanks for the informative video Ivan.

I just started watching but it reminds me of the P2646/2647 VTEC codes on Hondas, where when VTEC is disabled due to certain causes (low oil pressure, bad pressures switches, bad solenoid, dirty filters, etc), the ABS system is also disabled at speeds above 30kph, so the stability control light is illuminated on the dash along with the CEL. The ABS system will usually set a DTC like 83-01 or similar. Interested to see if whoever makes Dodges these days does the same thing.

If the problem only occurs in ECO mode, then there could be a mechanical problem in the cylinder shut off part of the engine causing a low oil pressure condition. I would advise the shop/owner about this so you do not get an expensive warranty claim later on when the engine gets run by someone that doesn't shut off ECO mode and suffers a catastrophic failure due to low oil pressure.
@promastersonly1419

I fight with this constantly on the Promaster. Best I can tell, the steering angle sensor will send sporatic garbage data, which will fire all abs, esc, and give a message of “hill holder warning” which I’m pretty sure is a vestige of the european versions of the van. Clears on restart, so I have no way to test it while it’s active. On restart, it will be gone and sometimes wont recur for YEARS. The P0520, at least on the 3.6, is always the oil pressure sensor in the cooler. Every 3.6 will have it at some point. Harmless, as the computer can derive the oil pressure from the cam timing. However, if the oil temp sensor next to it fails, or mice eat the wires, it will fire the throttle light, abs, esc, and it will also put the engine in low power mode. Shops will often go chasing the abs system, or the tb or pedal. Tricky stuff. I’m delighted to see your thumb is healing.

I'd like these engineers to explain why a 2.5L 4cyl that gets 25city/32hwy is even a candidate for such a (long-term) risky and unnecessary design change. Any 'benefit' is far outweighed by the possible cost of failures. (Whisky Tango Hotel). Thx again.

I like my harbour freight Green 💚 tool box. Or yellow 💛 is nice too. Maybelline Red color tool box..I graduated out of that. Then my grand daughter buys me a used one for $20.00 bucks. How can I say no. ❤❤ I like my green impact wrench from O'Reilly's.😅😅, so I have 2 now Bought a midnight black THOR impact wrench from Amazon. The same ThOR that Mr. Eric O has. So my green tool box is like crayons. It's got colorful tools. Reds. Yellow. Orange. Black. 😅😅😅

I have the same engine. Oil pressure should be around 50psi going down the road. 31 psi would be hot idle. There is definitely a pressure issue. That also explains why the code comes on when in ECO (4 cylinder mode). Additional oil flow/pressure is needed to get lifters into ECO mode.
