Are these really EV charging points??? Zappi WIFI connection walkthrough.

Join me today as I install a Zappi EV charging point (supply equipment) while explaining the difference between EVCP and EVSE.
Also, I decided at the end to do a walkthrough guide to connecting the zappi to the internet as I know this can become a problem in some installations.
I also give a brief review on a new IP65 consumer unit that I have chosen to install, take a watch and let me know what you think.

TP-Link is a brand that make networking equipment amongst other things. The device you used is a WiFi range extender. :)

Another point is, the powerline range extender is what you should be pressing the WPS button on if it's available, as the router is too far away for it's WPS to work 👍🏾

Great, honest video. Refreshing to see someone going through the pain of setting up these types of gear. Question, I have a new one to fit, with built in wifi. Its on my garage, separate from the house. Do I need to have a CT around my incoming mains? It's do able, but not sure if its needed. Think it may be needed to monitor what else is on in the house so as to decide what load to apply to the Zappi.

The best video I’ve seen on a Zappi installation. Can I ask one question. Once the Zappi has been setup including Wi-Fi connection, are the settings stored so that in the event of a power cut the owner does not have to go through the process again. Thanks.

17:09 at this point my Zappi Access point setting was OFF so I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't let me switch it on so the WPS would not work. I've not done anything different.

Hi what’s your opinion on the omission of RCBOS/RCDs on EVCP supply circuits and relying solely on the internal protection? Good tidy install 👍👍

Hi bazza1878 Thank you for your questions and comment, generally I would install a 63A double pole TypeA RCD to protect the cable and installation but in this case I wanted to try out this new consumer unit and it’s components, if it was the enclosure only I would install an RCD, I do also take into account the cable route and what’s involved, in this scenario I really didn’t think it was required, would it have been better with an RCD? Maybe so, but is it a dangerous installation without an RCD protecting a meter or so of surface mounted hi-tuff cable? I don’t think so. What are your thoughts?

@@sotaelectrical I agree with what you say, it’s all down to individual circumstance, I’m quite happy that protection is supplied via internal RCD, and as your installs also seem to be the vast majority of mine involve cables being surface mounted, either using SWA or EV ultra. So I’m quite happy with the protection provided. I only really asked the question as if you were to be really picky then the absence of a way for the client to test the RCD on EV CP could be an issue (not in my opinion) The inclusion of an upstream RCD/RCBO also has its own issues with selectivity. So horses for courses in my opinion. I’ve picked up some great tips from your installs and your tidy methodical way of working really does make for a top finish. 👍👍

What size Kopex did you use for the 25mm tails pal?

Hi @scottreynolds8917 I used 25mm copex for the tails, I used 16mm tails in this installation as they are easier to work with and more than adequate for the installation, thanks for watching!!
