Watching from Australia and wondering why the IP67. Our consumer units are all external. Meter and breakers are all in a metal box with a hinged door that has no weather seal, let alone an IP rating.

I watched one of your other videos a while back about getting organised and ever since I’ve been buying so much stuff to get organised but it feels great mentally I’m not scrambling looking for things. One set up you had I liked and copied is the stacking system with the box of power tools and drawers of fixings underneath

Also had a separate DB installed with 10mm main earth that was defo too small of a size for Short circuit current.... shambles.
@sotaelectrical2 күн бұрын
@ that is a shambles, some of these guys just don’t have a clue, not all of them though
@peterigrenyi91762 күн бұрын
@sotaelectrical i would have thought they get equipment issued by Octopus? Or are they subcontractors so to speak that just ho and pick up bits themselves? As for some of them being shambles that is the case with all the sparks 😁
@sotaelectrical2 күн бұрын
@ I speak to the guys in CEF and they tell me the octopus lads have to get their own materials, and CEF told me that some of them have no idea what they need so I’m not surprised. Yes I agree, we can’t throw them all in the shit bucket, some are good, some not so much as across the whole trade

Thanks for the video. Does the CT clamp need to be on the incoming line from meter or can it be on the line near consumer unit in the rear garden garage 50 meters away? The CU is daisy-chained from main house to outdoor to garage on 16mm SWA.
@sotaelectrical2 күн бұрын
It needs to be on the line conductor on the meter tails I’m afraid

Wee tip when rodding with cobras. They come with a screw on tip with a hole in the tip, cable tie through the hole then around the existing cable going through the conduit, not too tight just enough so the rod and cable tie isn't pulling the cable as you push it through. This should help your cobra rod around tight bends as it follows the cables route. Other method bend two cable ties and tape to the rod end creating like a whisk shape, keep the bend on cable ties relatively short and it helps push around the shape of tight bends. Alternatively tape an ibolt just the thread and loop part on to end of the rod and the curves of the loop help push around bends too. The other way around this last resort would be if the existing cable is moving up and down freely in the conduit then use that to pull 2 ropes through then use the ropes to pull the two new cables through one at a time. Only way normaly if bends to tight or conduit is blocked up with something.

Lovely work chap. Just a question as someone who is coming from industrial moving to domestic in couple weeks. How come the old colours aren't sleeved to comply to new regs? Are old colours still aloud in domestic dwellings? On industrial sites we always bring everything up to modern spec, so I always assumed it would be the same everywhere. Keep the content coming, has been a great sneak peak before I start my new role 👌
@sotaelectrical6 күн бұрын
Thank you sir! Old colours are still allowed, just need to put a sticker on saying old and new colours present in installation. Good luck in your new role!!

Great video, love the music. Nice and neat, but hate coming across a board with cable ties like this..Really difficult to identify & confirm the conductors. I'd end up removing them when fau;t finding... And why label spare ways as "spare"...only my opinion ...
@sotaelectrical6 күн бұрын
Thank you! I understand your cable tie issue, when I do mine all conductors are in the right corresponding terminals so there should be no issues identifying and testing under fault conditions. I label spare as spare and take a photo to prove that in the event of new circuits being installed by another party and a fault occurring, I can prove that at the time of my works the circuits labelled are the ones I am responsible for if that makes sense!
