A pretty anemic starter box compared to a generous Spearhead box! GW better give that Limited Edition cover artist a raise (especially if it still sells well!!) A banger of a partial line refresh. Excited to make greatweapon Barrow Guard, then give the extra shields to a CoS unit.

Here's my prediction: varghaist are getting a new kit. When they release the fec update ( which is one of the three small squares in the road map alongside khorne and kharadron ) they're gonna release then a new kit for terrorgheist and remove the zombie dragon from the roster. A new kit for the horrors/flayers and the disappearence of basic ghouls. That way all the old kits will be available for the return of VC on TOW.

@@RuralCastle513 nope, extremely similar and thematically identical but 3 entirely unique sprues the ulfenwatch skeletons have much different (lack of belts/daggers and banner pose are the biggest giveaways) the 2 newest ones are almost exactly identical but they changed the sprue to make them easier to assemble since it sounds like there were issues with legs snapping frequently

Looks like new grave guard, new black knights, new vhordrai, new unmounted undead dragon, new lord on regular steed So, my guess is that FEC are gonna get a minor refresh too So, now, the massive overlap in kits among the undead is about to be completely decoupled For a while, with some careful magnets, there was a lot of potential crossover Great designs (I like the new Vampire on steed and dragon, I liked the old wight king better)

Absolutely love this. SBGL are my jam and my favourite AoS army by far. Iv been hoping for new grave guard and black knights sculpts for a while and this reveal did not disappoint. Plus the new Prince Vordhrai and Zombie Dragon is absolute chef's kiss (and also seems to be a bit of a cheeky homage to the Ghost flame Dragon and Agheel from Elden Ring, right down to the pose!) I am so excited for this. Love to see the nods to the old Barrow Kings from the old Matt Ward White Dwarf article. I have loved that army since it came out. I have been planning and collecting bits for my Barrow Kings army for a long time. Hope I can get my hands on a box. I really wish they would bring the 7th ed WHFB skeleton kit back. Help differentiate the base skeletons and the heavily armored Barrow Guard. There is now 3 iterations of the same skele kit. It was interesting for Cursed City.. but they are too heavily armored and uniform. They should jettison the troubled kit and use Sepulchral Guard as the concept or just make a multi box of them haha. That said, I can't be too mad, the cursed city skeletons gave me helmets to use for my Araby units. Love the new zombie dragon, but will be making a Barrow King on sky chariot to count as VLoZD/ Character. The vampire on nightmare would make for a great Red Duke for ToW. The Duke should be terrorizing the forests right now based on the time line and would be cool if they ever bring VC into the fold, start it with him rather than Von Carsteins.

A small skeleton wizard would’ve been a nice addition as only problem I see is maybe limited to no magic, but very very happy with what they are releasing! I already have the original skeleton start collecting box and 40 skeleton warriors (10 Fantasy, 10 cursed city, 20 current).

FEC I think are the other faction with Warscrolls that have no models. Crypt Haunter Courtiers and Crypt Infernal Courtiers are just the unit champions from Crypt Horrors/Flayers, and leave you with an awkward unit of 2 if you choose to build one.

The vampire rider does make a lot of sense, with the possible disappearance of VLoZD. It was always missing in the range, as a SBG cavalry roster was only relying on Blood Knights and VLoZD, plus the skeletons crew (lulz). And it's also a big reference to Fantasy with the ancien dynasties. Each lineage had a mounted version and quite a classy one (Blood Dragons and Von Carstein !). All the new range is insane tho. But I'm not confident about the pricing of the box...

All of the new models look really good. I love seeing what amazing sculpts some of these artists are able to design and share with us. I'm hopeful to see some rules that really make me feel like a vampiric lord when my army is on the table. Every game I've played so far against my friend group has felt extremely underwhelming. AoS 4 has felt really good so far and I can't wait to see what GW ends up giving us.

I collect exclusively SBGL and have done so since they released. These were literally my top pick units for a refresh, and I’d held off buying them until now, so I’m super happy. I agree that the barrow knights have a weird static/ limp feeling to them, but I’m hoping that’s reflected in the rules as a sort of creeping dread element. Otherwise I’m blown away. Prince V is exceptional and I can’t wait to own him! I’ll be getting one of everything (except the spearhead).

In regards to smithing, remember that there are lots of mortals living in Shyish who will have their own economy and undoubtedly trade with undead legions. That said, I personally like to think this is the armour they were buried in because it gives us a glimpse into what humans in Shyish wore hundreds of years ago. The armour, particularly the pointed helmets, share vague echoes of similarity with the Cities of Sigmar equipment, which helps give the impression that they shared a common ancestor pre-Age of Chaos

of course we 'needed' a vampire lord on steed. It was a glaring issue. It was a massive points difference between a vampire lord on foot and then the next step was vampire lord on zombie dragon (or of course, Prince Vordrai). It was pretty much impossible to make an actual Kastelai Dynasty army as you would see in the fluff because your vampire lord was either technically overflying them all the time or on foot by themselvs. Or, if you were weird, on a cushion with some fellow vampire's reclining on meat stuffed cushion divan's in the form of the other kit that the Mortis Engine made. Can't remember what it's called now, the Blood Palanquin? The Sanguinarch?

The new models look dope! But I agree with you about the Barrow Knights... honestly not particularly interested in them... which means they'll probably end up being OP in the meta haha. I'm personally a big fan of unnamed characters, because it gives me the opportunity to come up with my own backstory for the army. So, I really hope they offer a generic vampire lord on zombie dragon option. Otherwise, I might just magnetize the drake so I can run it without a rider and have a reason to bring a Vengorian lord. Some part of me still wishes they had some kind of ranged unit, like a corpse catapult that has a chance of spawning a unit of zombies or something! But I know that's not really Soulblight's schtick

My only army is SBL, resurrected from old vampire counts. Honestly am just happy I was too lazy to build and paint vlozd and used proxy terrorgheist instead for a whole year. I can even break even if I get rid of it as a FeC model, wanted to have Vhordrai in my roster anyway.

Looking at the App, SBGL only have 40 war scroll's atm. So If the mounted Wight King, the Kinghts, the Gaurd and Prince Vordhai replace their's. Then its just the wight lord, the mounted vampire and the Revenant draconoth (if it doesn't replace the zombie dragon) giving us 43 known scrolls so far. Assuming the manifestations are 3 (could be 4 like the gitz) and the terrain is 1 we get 47. So thats eight ?! warscrolls yet to come which seems wild to me. Room for the barrow garud to have two scrolls for their different weapons, Othar the half prince. Will some of the underworlds warbads to get the Skabbid's treatment? Will we be getting a Warcry release (if its not dead)? They're surely not holding back another eight new kits are they? Or is my maths way off?

Death is such a weird faction. A once incredible whole was divided into three extremely niche armies with basically one stereotypical undead unit in different sizes, and the core original faction that gets an eye-watering amount of unit variety, special releases, and general TLC. Yet they're somehow equally appealing in the sense that three do too little, and one does too much.

Think the lore was that nagash n someone else were resurrecting the dragons n krondys and gang killed most of them. I'm worried the generic vampire lord on zDragon gets cut. If it does then I'm sure the terrorghist and old dragon are also gone. I personally will be picking up a box of the Barrow Guard for Cursed city. Then if my vampire on ZDragon is squared I'll have to find something to add to my Vyrkos army.

I would like to see more armies of renown around necromancy but which is used to serve order, chaos, destruction. Basically necromancer who use this art in mercenary purposes and of course Nagash is pissed off. Moreover, no matter how great is the upcoming wave for soulblightgravlords things like undead archers, goblins, orcs and other species are big question. Bone drakes as well... Vampire Smiths (who is smiting equipment and armor for those fancy blood Knights and their lords?) Many concepts to add in future.

My initial reaction was very positive. I really like the deathrattle skeletons. But in the end I find the guard and knights style a bit classic and a bit clean. I would have liked them to be more in line with the skeletons armor, and/or to be more ragged and rusty. I'm not a huge fan of the bat wing designs on the helms, reminding too much of the world-that-was. AoS needs something more specific, that's why the Vyrkos range is much better imho. The models are nice though, and I might even be tempted by the spearhead box...

Been playing Soulblight/Vampire Counts since I was a small lad in 7th edition Warhammer Fantasy. Have everytning in my collection but always felt the Grave Guard, VLoZD and Black Knights were lacking compared to other AoS models. Even bought 3D printed alternatives but they aint as good as this! So I'm super hyped about this, will get atleast 1 of everything. Vhordrai might be my favorite model ever, cant wait to get my hands on it. Also the Vampire on steed is truly a great addition to the vampire side to make an all vampire army. Here is hoping this isnt just a copy paste from the index although the sbgl index is pretty good, lacking a bit of flavor though (as all indexes) Now just Mannfred/Neferata, Coven Throne/Mortis Engine seems outdated in the range, will be interesting to see what they do with those in the book. Vargheists hold up fine imo

When i first saw the barrow guard and barrow knights i was kind of meh. i think it might have been the paint scheme. They have grown on me. I was a fan of the old grave guard and black knights. If i did a SBG army it would be a very skeleton heavy list so i was hoping for the grave guard & black knight refresh. I'm a little torn on the boxset and so on as i'm not really interested in started a new army at this time. Maybe if it was a DOK release with a bunch of new kits or hedonites. I'm actually selling a good chunk of my armies over the next few months and playing non GW games. I'll have to think on it and hopefully see the other new kits for terrain and endless spells.

So far we’ve got at least 8 new warscrolls: 3 endless spells 1 terrain 1 new unmounted dragon 1 vampire lord on nightmare steed 1 wight lord on skeletal steed I think SBGL will lose at least the VLOZD and the Terrorgeist, with a new Terrorgeist coming in FEC. Not sure what else we might lose

I do think that Games workshop is ignoring some of the armies that really need an update for example Nurgle haven't been performing well so need a buff but also don't have any ranged options besides the rotmire creed and don't have any artilery at all which is the main meta in AOS4 so far

It's mainly been ranged options in other armies and that's not the only issue for nurgle they're much slower than other armies even their cavalry can only move 8" compared to other armies that can move 12

As much as it pains me I actually really want this box.. I've got 3K points of Soulblight but held off on black knights and graveguard.. looks like I made the right call but this release is going to be costly with the mounted vampire and the new Vhordrai though.. balls edit: also the number of warscrolls could be interesting, because in theory the zombie dragon and terrorgheist will disappear if there's now a draconith to trademark replace them. So Vampire lord of nightmare may replace one of these leaving 1 new mystery warscroll?
