Allan Holdsworth, the cadenza at 1:10 in the track Diminished Responsibility, played on acoustic guitar. Most difficult thing I’ve heard in 50 years of playing. Also John McLaughlin on Do You Hear The Voices You Left Behind?

When they mentioned Vai as an honorable mention I was disappointed as well, tho I was thinking maybe Yngwie for #1, but when he said it'll be VH I thought oh shit, he's right.. And I was REALLY surprised to see Eric Johnson, not because of his playing, he's a freakin' alien, but cos I didn't think whatmojo or whatever would even think of him! I agree about the Hendrix solo, as a guy who made it my goal to learn EVERY Hendrix song every recorded (I'm at about 75% or so), there are much harder ones to learn; interestingly though, I've seen at least a dozen or more 13 year old girls ripping the Crazy Train solo virtually perfectly, but other than SRV, I've seen maybe 3 players who could ACTUALLY do justice to a version of Voodoo Chile, and give it the same sense of grandeur that Jimi could WHEN HE WAS ON, which he often wasn't, great player, but inconsistent live... Also, no Guthrie Govan..? Nonetheless, soooo disappointed by #1....

Hendrix was great but yeah his solos are not that difficult in terms of raw skill. I agree regarding Little Wing. Crazy Train is great but Mr Crowley is infinitely better as a song and the guitar solos are his best. Don't disagree with it being here, most people know Crazy Train a lot better since it's more traditional rock/metal than Mr Crowley. I was going to lose my shit if Cliffs of Dover wasn't here, that intro solo is so friggin hard to play correctly. Never really gotten it myself, his toan is godly. Follows the Signs is delightful, technical but it sounds so awesome. Eddie deserves it but this is more of an influential list than hardest to master. Hollows Years (Live at Budokan) should be on this list over Under a Glass Moon, Petrucci transcends dimensions in that one. The Jazzy solo before the shredding is beautiful. Pretty much agree with your overall opinion.

I think your opinion on what's more difficult, speed versus chord progression, plays into what you feel is harder
@Hardwired075 ай бұрын
Well yeah, memorizing chords is much easier than learning a solo that’s played at tempo some of these solos were at lol
@shannon1255 ай бұрын
@@Hardwired07 😑 Some chord progressions are impossible to master even with memorization. If your fingers can't move that way, they just can't. Side note; every dude on this list clearly never had an issue getting a woman to climax with those fingers
@EliteNGHTMRE5 ай бұрын
These kinda lists erk me cause it almost always stays mainstream. Dont get me wrong, i dont deny these solos are hard on different levels, but when you get into obscure genres (especially in metal) you find a PLETHORA of solos that make you go "how tf?!". Especially nowadays when you got bands like Sleep Token blending genres in a way that hasn't been done.. guitarists nowadays are far more advanced than my idols in alot of ways
@Hardwired075 ай бұрын
You aren’t wrong by any means. It’s more of “if it sounds cool, it must be hard” but it’s honestly just them stepping on a metal box
@vk3fbab5 ай бұрын
They are never gonna get them correct but Skynard as an honourable mention. Great band and a great song, even a great solo section but does it challange an average player? You seeore challenges from Brian May, Brian Setzer, Nuno, Chet or Tommy Emmanuel. I'm surprise they didn't include Clapton as he's very popular.

I've played Flying Fingers for years. It's not as hard as it sounds when you grow up playing that style of music and loved the "Boogie" style. I play the Dire Straits song, note for note, but use a pick as the thumb. The 8 string? I'm too old now to even care about learning 2 extra strings! LOL Little Wing is definitely right!! 👍

I would say Mr. Crowley by Randy Rhoads is a better solo. More challenging to perfect. There is one lick where Randy alternate trill with his 3rd and 5th fingers leaving his 4th finger to bend followed by a pitch harmonic with his 5th finger. Unless you have pristine fundamentals with being able to alternate triplet trill with any finger in any order, it will sound clunky and forced. Randy's sounds very fluid and in the flow of the solo. Even Zach Wilde has to replace it with a substitute lick. No dishonor in not having that mastered. IMHO Randy was a monster of fundamentals.
@Hardwired075 ай бұрын
I can 100% agree with this. The more I watch these mojo music countdowns, it’s clear they choose singles or the cult classic songs and not cuts that aren’t popular. I’m looking for countdowns that include those but it’s hard to find
@Tomtraubert20094 ай бұрын
@@Hardwired07 we (the community) should collectively produce such a list (or 2, one for instrumentals, one for traditional songs with solos) from comments and you could do a video when it's all done? Maybe a google sheets thing or something to collect everything.

I think if you look at the list from a present day standpoint then yh hendrix is "easy" to learn yes. However if you look at it as learning the solos he wrote when he did they were definitely "hard".

That's not a guitar solo like what's implied here (ie a solo within a song, the traditional guitar solo) and yes, Eruption shouldn't be here either. In fact, most mojo lists are trash.
