Two theories as to why there are so many Filipinos who are good at singing is because 1. Karaokes are everywhere. 2. No one really shames anyone for singing badly. In the Philippines, you can belt your heart out, even out of tune, and no one would tell you off. Stell, for example, hated singing lessons but would learn songs through Karaokes 🥰
@jaenlabalan75363 ай бұрын
I mean. Judgments are inevitable but we have to be better at singing so our videoke session could pass curfew hours without being reported to authorities. If your voice is good you'll never see authorities outside ur door telling u that someone called a noise complain. HAHAHA
@CB_EverAfter23 ай бұрын
another theory is because of our language, they say our language is sort of musical on its own phonetics and stuff. then because parents see singing as a possible career so it's not discouraged. and also because of our culture. we are culturally musical lovers, we sing when we're sad, happy, bored, when there's a wedding, a funeral, a birthday, a graduation. we have graduation batch songs in all levels of graduation (kinder, elem, high school, college), we have school singing competitions, we have school battle of the bands, our christmas party at home, at school, at work usually includes a performance. we just can't live without music 😂

Additionally, it is because of the Philosophy of 'Kapwa' (togetherness) wherein, we tend to sing because most of the Filipinos did. When you are close to someone who can sing, you tend to adopt what he/she is doing.

American here. Been watching singing competitions and talent shows on tv and online for many years. Noticed that Filipinos tend to be some of the best powerhouse singers, belters, mimickers, and have the clearest pronunciation of anyone anywhere. Discovered Morissette Amon. Came across her performance of Akin Ka Na Lang on the Wish Bus and she’s been my favorite female vocalist hands down since. If you somehow haven’t heard of her definitely look her up. I also recommend her version of Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw.

Filipinos, of all ages, love to sing songs which require a lot of belting or high notes. ‘Cuz here in the Philippines, there’s a saying that if you can sing in a high key that means you are a legit singer. Songs of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Regine Velasquez are the most common ones in Karaoke.

I read all comments here. No one knows the history of Filipino during spanish colonial. Filipinos started love to music because of kundiman, it is not only for showing emotions. It was also used for communication so that the enemy will not know that they were planning for something. 😂 instead of talking normaly, they sing in harmony... One fact why Filipinos are good at singing is that we are somehow trained the moment we start schooling because we are required to sing our national anthem everyday and it is quite in a high pitch so our vocals are exercised well enough to develop into a talent 😊

wrong its karaoke and also because people in the phillipines just sing either from boredom or just practicing we tend to be very loud lol since no one judges you for having bad voice we all start from scratch but if they ddo its mostly just playful teasing and also people here can sing good its common to hear singing even in streets or just walking outside its most common in bathrooms lol i tend to sing alot even at 5 am in the morning where its the best time to sing

The young girl singing Adele went viral for obvious reasons. As you can probably tell, she comes from a humble background. Most households in the Philippines have a karaoke machine and that's our vocal teacher, our music room. This girl was singing acapella, in her pajamas. God willing she will continue to sing and be well-known because she has the girt but as you've also seen, we don't lack talented singers, we have an abundance of them but competition is fierce and the most practical ones find another passion that pays and just sing as a hobby.

That's why Pinoys have a very high standard when it comes to singing. We despise someone who lipsynch and using autotune to replace what their voice really is. You can use it to style your voice but not totally replace it. Theirs always one or two in the family that can do this. A voice that can stop you from using the mic 😅

pilipinos are smol that explains how the person could reach the high note. anybody small in height have higher pitch (in my observation). also, pilipino parents make their child cry aloud and for a long time when they're born so that the lungs will get "strong". that's an old tradition. another thing - pilipinos LOVE to talk A LOT. chizmiz. even men do that. that exercises the lungs too. foreigners dont chizmiz a lot to their neighbors. in the Philippines people talk to "everybody". even early in the morning you will get disturbed by your neighbor shouting at the streets just greeting someone at the other side of the road, or a mother screaming to their kids to wake them up for school. and since everybody are LOUD - you have to make your voice loud too. in the process, the lungs become stronger (for singing). THAT my friend is the "secret". now you know.

The people you have watch are consider people who can sing but they are not still consider as singers. To be a singer in the Philippines is a bit hard because of the high standards. Based on my own experience every family in the Philippines have atleast 1 singer. In my case my sister and my son can sing but my cousin is the one we can consider as a singer. She join competitions. Every household have a Karaoke machine in their houses. Every occasion is not an occasion if there is no Karaoke. That is why kids in the Philippines learn how to sing in a young age because they were exposed in this environment.

People in the comments talking about the abundance of karaokes in the Philippines are so right. Karaoke is ingrained in the culture whether you can sing or not. After school when I was in college, we used to de-stress by going to an arcade at the mall because arcades have karaokes inside. We go to bars too with local performers singing on stage, or to the club where music will obviously be playing. Singing along is just such a fun way for us to destress
